WordPress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org

I have installed the latest version of wordpress in the server, uploaded the folder Newspaper to wp-content/themes/ folder and activated the theme, got the Visual Composer plugin installed successfully, but I receive the following warning message:

Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org. Please contact your server administrator.)

The above message is received as the first line on navigating to any page (themes, plugins etc.) pointing to different lines in the wp-includes\update.php

The site under development is not going to be https enabled immediately. In such a case, can I safely ignore the warning message mentioned above and proceed with further development of the website as long as the theme will work without a problem?

Hello,

Unfortunately this error can be caused by a number of reasons. Please also try a wordpress default theme to see if you still get the error and just to be on the safe side, please check if you meet the requirements for newspaper: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ and also check your system status: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
If the error still persists, then you can follow a few resources on this topic:
