I have noticed slowness since I first moved over to the Newspaper theme.
I have spoken to Heart Internet when my website is hosted and they have seen the following issues in the logs:

What version of php are you using? what plugins are you using? There are many factors that can influence this.
If slow loading is your problem I would start at the memory allocation. Please use this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
Also the recommended version of php is 7.0
