I’ve updated the theme and now I see all strange ( I think visual composer) code

See example:

[td_block2 limit=”6″ custom_title=”NATUURLIJK ETEN & DRINKEN” ajax_pagination=”next_prev” category_id=”32″ show_child_cat=”all”][td_block1 category_id=”29″ limit=”5″ custom_title=”NATUURLIJKE VERZORGING” show_child_cat=”all” ajax_pagination=”next_prev”][td_slide autoplay=”7″ category_id=”31″ limit=”5″ custom_url=”NATUURLIJKE OMGEVING” show_child_cat=”all”][td_block3 category_id=”30″ limit=”5″ custom_title=”NATUURLIJK OUDERSCHAP” show_child_cat=”all” ajax_pagination=”next_prev”]

I already uploaded the theme again and also uploaded Visual composer again.

Can you help me?

Hi,

Did you updated from version 4 of the theme? If you do please check this guide – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and run the script to change the shortcodes, import your old settings. Please note that Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme and the old file customization and custom css will not work, you need to adjust it to this theme version.

Thanks!

I tried to update from Version 4 to Version 6 following the instructions. I am using a Child theme, so was expecting some minor global navigation issues (typically happened after prior updates).

However, the update completely failed. I tried doing the WordPress way to do the new install. After I complete the required steps, I see either error code or worse, a completely white screen when I try to follow your instructions.

I just did a revert to my Backup of version 4, and thankfully my site appeared again! WHEW!!!

I’m not willing to try this again. Sadly, I will probably be using a different theme as I cannot afford to have my site crash, and can’t update it with the provided files and instructions.

Sorry, but your instructions and the resulting user experience are not good!

Hi @ctomlin,

We’re very sorry for all the trouble you’ve experienced. Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme that is released for free for all of our existing customers so an update from 4 to 6 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings, will change the shortcodes… Also you have to update the child theme, please note that old files customization or custom css will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust and re-add them.

Hope this helps!
