WPBakery No Longer Working?

Last week I had trouble with WPBakery Visual Composer working in Newspaper 8 on a website we were upgrading. I posted here https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/wpbakery-visual-composer-is-not-working-for-building-home-page/#post-188382 and thought my issue was solved.

Today I have copied that site to its live destination using WP All In One Migration only to find that WPBakery Visual composer does not work, there is no button for it when editing a page. So I deactivated then deleted Visual Composer plugin and downloaded the newest Newspaper 8 from themeforest today, then manually upload Newspaper-tf/plugins/js_composer.zip and activated it. It shows as activated in plugins, shows no update message except at the top of every page in my admin console. I have deactivated, deleted, manually uploaded and installed the plugin two times now.

Are you still supporting WPBakery Visual Composer in Newspaper 8?

Hello MediaServicesTagDiv,

Of course, the Visual Composer is fully tested with our latest theme version and seems to work as expected. To achieve best theme results, you should only use the plugins which come bundled with the theme core files. Also, make sure that your VC version is the right one which comes bundled with the theme packet and not any other paid license. Check your system status parameters to be according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/

Thanks for the message!

Thank you for the reply Catalin.

I checked our plugins and I did have to delete two that were no longer supported in our current WordPress version. All of our other plugins were in use with Newspaper 6, but just to be sure I turned off all plugins except for tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Social Counter, tagDiv Speed Booster, and WPBakery Visual Composer. When I tried to Edit a page after turning off plugins we still have no button for Visual Composer.

After I read your reply above I also deactivated, deleted and uploaded and activated these plugins, td-speed-booster.zip, td-social-counter.zip, js_composer.zip and td-composer.zip and then activated them. Then, with the plugins still off (except tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Social Counter, tagDiv Speed Booster, and WPBakery Visual Composer) I checked again and still do not have a Visual Composer button.

Here’s our Edit screen with no VC button: https://ibb.co/ecYcKv
Here are the plugins activated and deactivated while testing: https://ibb.co/bFpnma
Here’s our System Status: https://ibb.co/bG04XF

I updated http://sullivansislandmagazine.com/s/ and http://isleofpalmsmagazine.com/ from Newspaper 6 to Newspaper 8 usng these steps:

  • LIVE SITE: Use WP All in One Migration plugin Export the site
  • TEST SITE: On an empty domain I installed WordPress 4.8.1
  • TEST SITE: All plugins were deleted and I installed WP All in One Migration
  • TEST SITE: WP All in One Migration was used to Import the website to be updated
  • I downloaded the Newspaper 8 update from ThemeForest
  • TEST SITE: Newspaper 8 was uploaded via FTP, plugins were installed and activated
  • TEST SITE: All desired updates were made (new home page build, sidebar recreated, if necessary etc)
  • TEST SITE: site was checked to make sure it looked good
  • TEST SITE: Used WP All in One Migration plugin Export the site
  • LIVE SITE: Used WP All in One Migration plugin Import the site
  • LIVE SITE: WordPress was updated to 4.8.1
  • LIVE SITE: site was checked to make sure it looked good, this was when I noticed Visual Composer was not working.

I can work without Visual Composer and use TD Composer but I’d prefer to be able to use Visual Composer, especially if its supported by the theme. Any ideas?

Hi MediaServicesTagDiv,

You should disable the TD Composer if you will not use because it’s not recommended to use the both plugins altogether, sorry! Try to make this change and check the results. If it will be with no success, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your log-in information (wp-admin) so we can further inspect it closer your setup page. Also, you should provide the full FTP access and paste there the link to this topic so we can quickly identify you.

Thanks for the message!

Catalin, you said…

email at contact@tagdiv.co with your log-in information

which I did. When I did not get a reply I double-checked tagdiv.co which shows a “link farm” website. Please verify the correct email address is actually contact@tagdiv.com.

It appears someone in China owns tagdiv.co.

Thank you.

When I updated to the new theme version, and as well the latest WP, half the sites was not working. Ultimate Addons created a mess as well. 1/4 rows moved to 1/1 rows and so on…

I solved it by DEACTIVATING TD composer, reinstalling newest VC and had to do some margin corrections in VC CSS block, and all is running again…
