I figured it out. A plugin had a setting that was striping closing p tags and it was always doing it, but the ads worked before and when the theme was updated, they didn’t work. It was because of the stripped </p> tags. Crazy!

The update stopped it from working. I can go back to previous version of NewsPaper theme and they work.

It does not show ads in the article for me. I have checked it on Chrome, Firefox and Edge on Windows 11. I have checked on Chrome on Android on a 5G connection. There should be 3 in-article ads and they do not show.

If I downgrade the NewsPaper theme, they show.

There is nothing wrong with requesting the ads removed. But really, going on about it like someone shot your dog is a bit overboard. lol

I get 89 on PageSpeed Insights on that article page. That is a great score for such a heavy theme with ads on it.

And then, I know how to put them in the child theme with the right path, but I don’t know how to make that template active.
