Perfect, thanks!

So it looks like, for whatever reason, the CSS wasn’t exposed in the Custom Code Section.

Had to copy / paste it from here:

Also, when I install the Travel demo content the first row shows this (with a real image URL):

[vc_row full_width="stretch_row_content td-stretch-content" el_class="td-travel-header" tdc_css="eyJhbGwiOnsiYmFja2dyb3VuZC1wb3NpdGlvbiI6ImNlbnRlciBjZW50ZXIifX0=" css=".vc_custom_1490019638737{background-image: url(http://imageurl_goes_here) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}"][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Seems like there is some custom embedded CSS that is not accessible via Visual Composer.

I’ve done that but now the image is stretched vertically (to 740 pixels high even though the image is only 310px high) and does not stretch the full screen width. Here’s the first row:

[vc_row full_width="stretch_row" full_height="yes" parallax="content-moving-fade" parallax_image="624" el_class="td-travel-header"][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Thanks

Thanks, I’ve done that but the background image won’t load correctly (only looks like one pixel high on top of the featured items), even though it is a large, wide image at 1400x310px. Was there a recent change in VC that may have broken this technique or code?

Thanks. If there’s a way to include changing this in the theme itself as an option, that would be fantastic!

Also, when I look at the text version of the demo homepage page, the first row is this:

[vc_row full_width="stretch_row_content td-stretch-content" el_class="td-travel-header" tdc_css="eyJhbGwiOnsiYmFja2dyb3VuZC1wb3NpdGlvbiI6ImNlbnRlciBjZW50ZXIifX0=" css=".vc_custom_1490019638737{background-image: url(https://demo.tagdiv.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/banner.jpg) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}"][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Seems like there is custom CSS, but I can’t find it in the Visual Composer interface.

Yes, some things aren’t possible to optimize only via the theme alone, but when I test Newspaper vs. other themes (six other ones) out-of-the-box using the same test post content, Newspaper is always the slowest and has the worst scores (both on Google PageSpeed and GTMetrix).

Again, I love the theme, but wish it was better optimized for speed.

Thanks everyone – great examples! Some however, are still pretty slow (e.g. if testing with GTMetrix).

I love the Newspaper theme but really hope they make a version of it already pre-configured out-of-the-box for speed.

Thanks to both of you! Are there any examples of sites that achieve good scores? Even the demo has poor Google PageSpeed results:

https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/the-most-anticipated-charter-flights-in-the-canary-islands/

Google PageSpeed Result:
– Mobile: 51/100
– Desktop: 60/100

If the demo is most highly optimized, that does not give me confidence that we will be able to optimize ours. Hoping to find other examples as well.

Thanks!

Thanks. I do know how to create plugins, was just hoping for the standalone function code to make it happen with your theme.

frankcf

Thanks. Do you know if there’s a way to create a function I can place in an external plug-in to do this (so I don’t need to modify the core theme or create a child)?

Thanks again!

Is there simply a way to refresh the page from one slide to the next by changing your code? This is very important for any publisher as we are all trying to increase page views and ad impressions. Slideshows are an important way to do that, but they have to be able to refresh the page.

Thanks so much!

Clarification on this since I have the same question…

  1. Is it better to first just erase the /newspaper directory and then re-add (rather than overwriting files)?
  2. What exact plugins should be deactivated? (it is just deactivated or also deleted)?
  3. At what point in the install should they be deactivated (before /newspaper upload or afterwards)?

Thanks

Let’s hope they’re still not using it for Author Rank (vs. displaying in search results).

Does the theme support Schema.org authorship such as:

J.Doe

It’s also a different font face now as well. What was the one before?

frankcf
tagDiv Member

I did but everything is “default”, yet it has changed since 3.9.1 (especially the larger fonts).

frankcf

I upgraded from 3.9.1 to 4.2.2 and noticed our fonts are now much larger.

What’s the recommend action to fix this?

Thanks
