It seems like 8.7.3 installs TD Composer 1.0 if there was a previous installation.
For example, if I switch themes to a totally different theme and delete all tagDiv files (themes and plugins), then install 8.7.3, it works (however TD Composer has not yet been installed). Then from Newspaper > Plugins, I install TD Composer
https://www.xyzsite.com/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/plugins/td-composer.zip?uid=xxxxxxxxx
For whatever reason, it installs TD Composer 1.0 and I get the blank screen. HOWEVER, if I manually install TD Composer 2.2 first and then install 8.7.3 (after full tagDiv erase of files), it works.
So there is something strange going on with the auto-install of TD Composer with 8.7.x. I tried deleting the cache, same issue.
I did that. I deactivated and deleted all plugins before upgrading. There’s something about the upgrade path from 8.6 -> 8.7 that’s causing an issue. Is there something in the DB or somewhere else that would cause remnants of the older plugins to still exist and cause issues?
This seems to be a major bug. I just tried a totally clean and fresh install to test it out. I created a brand new WordPress install on Siteground. Installed the Yoast Plugin, that’s it. Installed Newspaper 8.6 with demo content. Then installed 8.7.3. Got the blank admin screen issue.
Any fixes to this issue?
I tried the FTP method as well. Same issue.
Can you please explain exactly how you are updating via FTP? Are you erasing files or overwriting them, etc.? Instructions on your site aren’t clear. Thanks
I’m not running js_composer on my side. Did a clean 8.6 install with only TD Composer and then tried to upgrade to 8.7.2. Blank screen. Running PHP 7.0.27 and WP 4.9.4.
There seems to be something severely wrong with 8.7. Holding on 8.6 until these issues are resolved.
This is after I downloaded the fresh version from Envato and cleared all caches.
Basically, when you have the post sharing buttons active with Pinterest and also use the Pinterest embed code (in previous post) to highlight pins on your site, it turns your Pinterest social sharing button into the very small Pin button from Pinterest. Likely a CSS class naming conflict or something (guessing).
I don’t have a link to where it’s happening but could set something up in a staging environment and send you a private link.
Yes, we will be moving to a different one, but I thought I’d let you know since Shortcoder is a very popular plug-in and in case you want to diagnose what is happening with the theme.
Never mind… discovered the Primary Category (below the post) was incorrectly set somehow upon post import.
Love this theme, but the 8.7 release was very buggy. Looking forward to the fix! Still on 8.6 as of now (good thing we test everything on staging first!).
That is why I was asking for the older Newspaper versions. So I can do the transitions. Do you have the older versions?
That’s what I was afraid of. If I wanted to do a totally fresh install and move my old posts (and media) over to a new site, is there a recommended procedure?
Same problem here. In addition, when I try to manually install it via Plug-Ins > Add from the zip file, it kills my wp-admin back-end (just get a blank screen). Have to un-install the theme.
Same issue here đ
Here’s an example plug-in I found that may do the trick:
External Content
https://wordpress.org/plugins/external-content/
In addition, I think I can do the same thing as above using Types:
https://wp-types.com/home/types-manage-post-types-taxonomy-and-custom-fields/
Thanks. Sounds like it’s not something WordPress can do out of the box without some sort of plug-in. I’ll look around.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks. So if I wanted a section on my homepage that lists current news from around the web, I would have to edit the page each time?
Is there a more efficient way to do this (in the same way it’s easy to do with posts)?
Thanks!
Thanks. Is there a way to remove the sidebar without having to edit code?
Ok, thanks. So it sounds like there is no way to AND categories using the filter option, unfortunately.
Hi,
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks
Actually, it turns out I just had to go under Theme Fonts > Main Menu and adjust the line height to 60px. That worked!
