This is happening to me as well. I just updated to Newspaper 9.8 and the Theme Panel button/link is not showing up. The update has resulted in significant changes to my design that I can’t fix without access to the Theme Panel. Please help!

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to ask one more question on this. Take a look at the below image to see exactly what I mean.

https://www.irreverentgent.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Byline-Example.jpg

Please let me know if there’s any bit of code I can use to move the byline up so it’s beside the picture, rather than below it.

Thanks!

Dave

Hi Catalin,

I don’t want to move the author section at the bottom of the post. I just want the byline at the top of the post to run beside the avatar photo, rather than below it. Is there some code that would help me do this?

Thanks!

Thanks Calin, I managed to figure it out and it’s looking great.

Two additional questions:

1. Is there some code I can input to make the image a circle, rather than a square?

2. Is there some code that would put it next to the author name, rather than above it?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Calin,

I inputted the code and got the message “syntax error, unexpected T_Class”

Any idea how to fix that error? Thanks so much for your help with this.

Hi Calin,

Thanks for your quick response. I think there’s been a misunderstanding. What I’m looking for is the ability to have a photo show up next to my author name, as it does in the two links posted above. Is there a code I can input that will automatically attach an image to the author name at the top of a post?

Thanks for looking Simion, I’ll let you know if I find a solution.

Thanks for your reply Simion. Unfortunately none of the links you provided address my issue. I have completed all of the steps laid out in the literature, but when I go to validate my URL, I get a message telling me they “were unable to retrieve any data from your URL.”

None of the guides I’ve read explain what to do in this situation, and since I’ve already completed the required steps, I don’t understand what the problem is, or what can be done to fix it.

Hi Bogdan,

I have disabled all plugins and cleared my cache, but the subfooter still didn’t come back. Is there anything else I can try that will bring it back? I had an important sub-menu in the sub-footer, which is currently not displaying at all.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Bogdan,

I believe my permission settings and system status parameters are all fine, as I am able to download, install, activate and use other plugins. For some reason, it’s only the tag div social counter that’s giving me trouble.

As mentioned, I already tried disabling all plugins and clearing my cache, but it didn’t work. Do you have any other suggestions for how to get the plugin to work?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Bogdan,

What does “reset cdn files” mean and how do yo do it? I tried disabling all plugins and clearing my cache, but that didn’t seem to work. Can you explain?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Simion,

I can confirm that my settings are set correctly in the Theme Panel, exactly as your example showed, but the font is still not displaying properly.

To illustrate the problem, here’s what the font should look like. This is how Playfair Display SC looks in the pop-up form builder I use:

https://www.irreverentgent.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Screen-Shot-2017-04-02-at-3.07.38-PM.png

But here’s how it looks when it appears live on my site:

https://www.irreverentgent.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Screen-Shot-2017-04-02-at-3.07.20-PM.png

I realize the difference is subtle, but the font is clearly not appearing as bold as it should, despite being set properly in the theme panel.

After looking at your system status parameters guide, I still don’t understand what, if any, changes I would need to make in order to solve this issue.

Again, the issue began after I switched to https. Any further advice or suggestions about what specific actions I could take would be greatly appreciated, because as of now the theme is not quite working properly.

Thank you for continued support on this – it is very much appreciated.

Hi Simion,

When I go to the theme panel I see multiple options for the font weight, ranging from “100 – Thin” to “900 – Black (Heavy)”. The font I use for my headlines, Playfair Display SC, ranges from 400 to 900, as per Google:

https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Playfair+Display+SC

But when I change it from “700 – Bold” to “900 – Black (Heavy)” I don’t see the change reflected. As a test, I also tried setting the font to italic, but again I didn’t see the change reflected on the front end.

I’ve tried clearing my cache and I’ve checked the headlines across multiple browsers, with no luck.

Any further suggestions you have would be very much appreciated.

Hi Simion,

My hosting server is helping me clean up the font-related errors on the site, but in the mean time when I try to switch to a different font and then change the font weight using the theme panel, it doesn’t work. Shouldn’t the fonts from the theme panel still work as normal?

For instance, I use Playfair Display SC as my headline font. That font is not coming up in my list of insecure urls, and seems, on the surface, to be unaffected by the switch to https. But for some reason it’s not displaying the proper font weight, as it did previously, and changes made using the theme panel aren’t reflected on the front end.

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Guys,

I’ve also noticed a second font problem, which I assume is related. I can change the fonts using the theme panel, but when I try to change the font weight by using the dropdown menu, it doesn’t actually change. As a result, all of my title fonts look weird, in addition to my body fonts.

Please help! Thank you for the awesome support you guys provide.

Thanks for getting back to me.

In the example you show, I’d like to remove the Newspaper logo in the center, so that only the background image is visible. Is there further CSS code needed for that?

My site is http://www.irreverentgent.com, but for now I have disabled this because it wasn’t looking right.

Thanks again for all the great support!

Thanks Andrei! That worked, but I have one more question. Is there a way to maintain the parallax/responsive effect on the image?

Thanks again for the great support – I’m really enjoying this theme.
