Hi Michael,

I’m quite busy here so as soon as I have the time I will write everything in detail (but you can see the thread telling which files on the theme to edit and how here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/jason-ld-vs-inline-micro-data-again/#post-11270557 ).

About google not showing the last updated date, what the developer of the plugin was:

“Newspapaer theme by default uses Article type schema and datePublished is a mandatory property of Article Schema. So I told you to edit your theme file and disable those markups and you successfully did it. Now please wait upto 7 days as Google will fetch the new schema info very soon and it may take some time to show last modified date in SERPs. ”

But keep in mind that I am editing my texts directly on wordpress. So I know it’ll work there, just not sure about posts/pages built with plugins.

Yes! I was so happy when I saw the new update had last update date in the article, only to find out later that’s only for cloud library. Well, it’s something at least! πŸ™‚

If you guys want I can include here a step by step of how I solved this using the wp last modified info plugin. πŸ™‚

Thank you for your help!

However I’ve noticed it shows social media links and everything else in the pre preheader, when I just want to show the menu items, like on this website (which also uses newspaper): https://apureguria.com/europa/italia/5-dicas-alpes-italianos-e-dolomitas/

what code should I use instead, then?

Cheers!

Hi Calin, thanks for your help!

I received the following answer from WP Last Modified Info plugin and after that I will write my question:

“Hi,

You need to manually edit your theme files to fix this issue. Actually, your theme already has schema markups and Newspaper Theme does not use any filters.

To show only last modified date to SERPs, it is important to remove datePublished schema from your website: http://prntscr.com/mn5ls7”

1. So from what I could understand, if Newspaper theme had filters, we could easily set what to show or not from the Theme’s Panel, is that correct? Maybe that’s something you could add in the future! πŸ˜‰

2. I’ll have to edit my theme files (which I have no clue how to do it, lol) but I understand that I will lose all the edit every time there’s a theme upgrade, right? Could I make this changes direct on the “custom code” area instead? How would that be?

Thanks for all the help!

Hi, I came here to ask exactly the same thing! We should have the option to choose what to show on SERP: publish date, last modified date or not showing date at all (while we can still show it on our post).

At the moment I’m also using the WP Last Modified Info plugin and to set it up properly, I need to know if Newspaper theme support Schema Markup. Could you answer me that, please!

Thanks! πŸ™‚

Hi! I’ve found this post and it’s sort of what I need as well.
Actually, I wish I could set the order of my articles on the mega menu just like we do now on other sections of newspaper theme (where we can filter by article number, newest, etc)

I’ll leave it as a suggestion for future updates in Newspaper. Thanks!
