When I did the update, I didn’t update the TD Composer, cause I believe the main theme update disables it, and then when I enabled it, everything worked again.
If you’re trying to update theme in staging, you’re going to need to work with your CW engineer and have them add something to your .htaccess file to account for https so the update can successfully install. If you explain the issue to them, they should understand.
Hope that helps!
Catalin,
#4) I was able to resolve #4 🙂 but would still like direction/support with #3
Thanks!
Catalin,
Thanks for your help.
#3) I’m still not clear as to what should happen if I define the ad size to 750×100, is it going to stretch the div to display it? I’m not seeing anything happening and the ads are still getting cut off. I just assumed that you guys would make it wide enough to accommodate a 728×90 ad slot which is an industry standard ad for inline advertising slot. Or maybe I’m just misunderstanding what I need to do.
#4) I have sent email.
Catalin,
Thank you for help, that fixed the issue #1
Any update on #3 & #4?
Thanks!
HI Catalin,
1. Here is the URL for post, Here is the URL for page.
2. Thank you
3. Here is the URL , notice how the 728×90 banned at the bottom of post is getting cut off on the right. Its like that for every post. I think that can be fixed by widening the container globally as it will fix the problem by placing ads in between posts.
4. Take a look home page, specifically the footer. Now take a look at another page, specifically the footer; notice they don’t have ads. Now look at a category, and now a post; notice the footers, they have ads. I was able to add the ads via the ads under theme panel under Footer top but for some reason the pages don’t show the ads.
Thank you for explaining your challenge it in detail. Yes, I understand where you are coming from now. And yes, your recommendation makes sense; I’m with it as well.
Here are my thoughts…Perhaps the italics can be removed from the current caption field while making the font color black. The credit/attribution can be a font smaller, italicized and gray color and assign right indent so caption inherits the left indent.
That way there will be separation in the text and readers will easily identify the distinction between the caption and the credit/attribution.
Thanks!
Catalin,
That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Have a good one!
Simion,
I saw that lakersnation.com, a big blog here in Los Angeles, and they use the Newspaper theme Version: 2.3.4 (rara) and I see that in their posts, they have a featured image credit/attribution section:
See example here: https://www.screencast.com/t/ORNNfVuugN
Code snippet: data-caption=”Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports”
Is that a plugin or do you think its custom code?
Thanks!
Simion,
The title and excerpt changes were made in the composer. I removed them from the composer and went ahead and made them on the theme panel and it works perfectly.
Thanks again for your excellent help!
Simion,
You are correct, it was on the Theme Panel not Additional CSS under appearance.
I removed it and it worked. The header looks more uniform.
Thank you for your help.
Hi Simion,
I’m just providing an update to this ticket.
I went ahead and made changes to title and excerpt length on module 19 and then global to test the difference, however, the change only get applied to the home page, they do not get applied to any of the other posts on the rest of the category pages.
See here: https://www.screencast.com/t/1ZdSoZjLdYkH
Can you please tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks!
Simion,
Upon the theme update, it removed all CSS since I don’t have the child theme installed yet.
With that said, I manually added the CSS code and nothing happened.
I just removed the CSS code, cleared server cache & website cache and tested in new Chrome incognito tab and looks like the update did not fix the issue.
Please have a look here: https://www.screencast.com/t/h37Y7a0C
Thanks!
Understood. Thank you Bogdan!
Simion,
Hope you are well, looks like the CSS code that you provided me with below, for fixing the home page header size for the logo, no longer works:
.home .td-header-style-10 .td-logo-wrap-full .td-logo {
line-height: 200px;
}
Will this be fixed in the next update?
Alternatively, if I wanted to rebuild the theme look from scratch with how the current theme import looks, is there a wiki on how I can do that so I don’t have to apply any CSS to change a native logo alignment in the header?
Thanks!
Simion,
Thank you for your help on this; the site looks looks much better 🙂
Bogdan,
Thanks for your help on this.
So if I want to change the thumbnail to a center-center one, can that only be attained thought the API?
Perhaps we can address it via CSS?
Thanks!
Simion,
I checked out some plug-ins and they all seem to be outdated, in other words they haven’t had updates in a long time. If I install, they may compromise the security of the site, unless you think it wont cause any issues.
But, yes, I agree with you that having that option available and native to the theme would be great and would make the theme more competitive for news like sites that need to cite picture sources or provide picture attribution in the USA.
Looking forward to that update.
Thanks for your help!
Simion,
Thank you for the response.
What you are suggesting is practical, however its not a fit for our application.
We need to be able to provide credit to the featured image to show where the image was sourced from. The credit is usually in small lettered displayed to the left, centered or right of the featured image but only visible on a post.
Here is the perfect example: https://www.screencast.com/t/Khg2ulfB9fI0
Thats small text can only been seen when someone reads the article, its not displayed if the article if featured on the home page or anywhere else on a website.
In the US, for legal reasons, one has to cite the picture/video to give credit to the originator.
I’m guessing what I’m asking for is not a native function to the theme, but would you happen to know of any plugins that provide that credit/attribution filed to be included with the featured image, but only displayed on the post?
Also, I see that you are using screencast.com, hope you like it 🙂
Thanks!
I was able to get the issue fixed by my Cloudways engineer. It was an issue with the http/https and how the plugin was seeing it in the header.
Hopefully it will not be an issue again during the next update.
@epickenyan – I found the problem, I looked into the plugin section in the Newspaper managed section and saw the following:
Updating Plugin: tagDiv Composer
The plugin does not have a valid header.
Download failed. cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate
Return to tagDiv plugins panel
@tszabolcs – all plugins are updated…
@epickenyan – is the TD Composer working for you? I don’t see it in my staging environemnt after the update…
I would like to add that “Edit with TD Composer” is no longer an option under page edits.
Has that feature been moved elsewhere?
Thank you Catalin!
Simion,
Thanks for the reply.
Your suggestion is spot on for pictures inside of a post.
I should have been a little more specific, I’m looking for a solution for credit/attribution for Featured Images that get displayed in posts at the top of the post (the main image/video), not images embedded in a post among text.
Does that make sense?
Thanks!
