Thank you for the responses. I believe Chris had it right when he wrote that it’s likely a plugin conflict but actually in this case, it was a conflict with a previously installed theme. I tried to delete it but there are certain features that still carried over and were causing issues. I’ve re-installed the theme on a clean WP install and everything seems to work.
