It’s more useful to test a “post” page than your home page, as the home page has many more images and queries than a story; and you don’t want the home page to load for a story in SERPS anyway, you want story to load under a search.

Try the above link, but with one of your post pages.

You cannot do anything about the ads loading from Google, or some other things. You have no control over stuff being loaded off somebody else’s server.

Why not ask your CDN service ? They’re the one who sold you the plan?

A CDN “can” “in most cases” speed up a website by loading things like photos from a server closer to the person viewing it; meaning somebody in NY might get an image faster than somebody in CA, if loading the image from a server based in NY.

This doesn’t always mean the pages load any faster for PageSpeed. We ended up just loading things from our own server as the CDN didn’t “really” speed things up for us in actual practice. It’s more useful on large shared hosting accounts.

Well, home page is full of modules … how could I have pagination for modules which are unique to the home page?

basically if you have a bunch of modules on the home page, vs the classic blog listing, you can’t really do pagination … what would page 2 show exactly? Would it do a whole new set of queries for EVERY module and somehow advance them xxx number of items? That would kill the server on a site with 10,000 pages really quick.

So, usually pagination only works on things like category pages, or a home page setup in the classic blog fashion where there is a slider, and list of stories from 1 to 20, and then a page 2 of homepage would show 21-40 of the “listing” …

So, I actually was responding to the issue of not having the “description” tag on the home page.

So, pagination works for a page like this, which is a category,

As to pagination …
With a home page full of modules, I don’t see how “pagination” would work, as there is not technically “one” main loop… so that is why there is no pagination on bottom of my home pages, as I’m not using the classic blog “listing” format of 20 items down a page, where pagination would take me to second page following that main loop.

Yup. I did this back and forth while deciding whether to use Newspaper or Newsmag on a particular site which was 10 years old. The only hiccup I had was one time with a major update, like from Newspaper v3 to v4 (or was it v2 to v3), a couple of modules changed, and so I had to redo couple things on the sidebar. Which is kind of expected sometimes.

Obviously if you’re really paranoid, also, you could look at your widgets panel and do a screen capture of the module layouts for sidebar or custom home page sidebar … juuuuuuust in case.

And you should also backup your custom CSS just to be even more paranoid 🙂

Apple abandoned Safari for windows in 2012, almost 3 years ago; so by today’s web standards it’s pretty ancient. I think that even pre-dates bookstrap, doesn’t include modern rendering engines, and didn’t yet fully embrace HTML5; so… it’s kind of like running IE9, except without the “fix file” included for IE9 with most modern CSS.

note florida site was just moved to the theme about 10 days ago, and is not yet fully optimized.

I was actually waiting on the new version of theme, and I need to optimize the logos (e.g., no mobile logo, footer logo, and the top logo off center due to white space in logo for the old theme layout … etc.

Auto update doesn’t work very well, at least not for me.

You don’t lose the settings in the control panel. Of course you can export your settings from the admin panel for the theme before update, always a good idea to back that up before doing any updates 🙂

You can edit the description tag on the “page” for your home page, using the Yoast options on the static page you’re using with Visual Composer.

The admin cannot “fix” that for you, as you need to insert your own SEO data in the Yoast panel on your static page.

Check your page source to make sure you actually have the description tag populated. The theme has no control over how your meta data like that appears in Google.

New version of theme just updated on Themeforest; see if this helps.

Note, that I’m using Yoast SEO with the last version of theme (prior to today), and not having the issue you’re having with All in One SEO Pack.

Well, all those ad networks, and the stuff like variables on the cdn, etc., are stuff “off the site” which are difficult to optimize. Generally once you have more than 3 ad networks and affiliate systems running, it will kill your speed. Trade off on income vs speed, and you know which one usually will win there 😉 … often you can try to address some of those issues with the ad networks.

The weirdo thing with the http + https issue with Google ads, I’ve not yet been able to sort out, as we’re seeing that too for the first time as of December/January. Maybe Jan. 1 ? It’s possible Google is doing some kind of redirect for legacy ad units in their network to force https loading of http content coming off client servers (client http://image.jpg –> https://google.image.jpg) but guessing on that.

80 mobile and 90 desktop are the “ideal” … but arguably you can test your score with AdSense “off” to get a more realistic score since we’ve seen that Google doesn’t penalize your score in real world use for their own sites not being optimized for their own testing system (!).

if I place the email in the footer in my install of Newsmag (latest version), via the theme panel
I get the correct:

(had to remove brackets as the code element in this forum seems a little wonky)

Make sure you’re not using an external link modifier plugin that is doing something like adding external link option to emails; as that may be rewriting your email URLs.

I’m giving the theme the “torture test” in WooCommerce land!

WooCommerce does have a setting to set the thumbnail sizes, but the theme doesn’t pick those up, which is okay with me, but that was the first thing I did try, fyi.

Will report back once I try the above code.

Sidebar is identical on all pages and nothing in the sidebar to “expand” the width artificially.

You can remove the WordPress meta data using a plugin, or you need to add code to the functions.php to hide things like version numbers, etc.

This has nothing to do with the theme but with WordPress. JetPack is a plugin created by the WordPress folks and not made by the theme developers.

I believe many folks have. You can look at the modules in the folder in the theme folder to see what they look like.

I think support posted how to register a module once you create it, but you’d have to search for that.

I think they have that planned for version 5.0 coming in couple of months 🙂

GTmetrix.com is useful for newbies as it shows examples and also offers fixes such as optimized versions of problem images and minified elements for those unable to do that stuff themselves. I usually recommend it as opposed to Google’s own Pagespeed Insights, since Google doesn’t really explain very well how to fix anything. GTM also has a plugin you can use to chart your improvements (or they did anyway).

I will admit I have worked with their parent company for 15 years several times on client projects, hence my high level of trust.

Still – one needs to follow the advice provided by ANY of the docs, posts, or online tools, as starting point to optimize a site; it won’t fix itself 🙂

Note also you will get a 404 error at least once when changing themes, where you are deactivating one directory, and adding a new one, but the new one is still being activated. I usually see ONE 404 error such as for /newsmag/ or whatever when doing some kind of major update. You can just click to say it’s fixed and ignore it.

Also good to resave your permalinks after a major update to WordPress or a theme, in my experience never hurts.

I think you have to put those in custom ad boc vs the main ad box… And of course if uou are doing it correctly… Official support can check your post page on the morrow.
