No, i don’t use any caching plugins.
I will research this issue closer over the coming weeks. But i am pretty confident that the counters ARE reset/reduced over at my site sometimes after reediting.

Sounds like you wont get out of work any time soon.

Another thing you may include, already sugessted earlier:
– better/richer navigation menus – see Bucket. It seems to be possible without delaying the page load.

Concerning ads: Another idea.
At least in germany we do have to add some notice to ads being such.
Maybe you could offer a css solution to mark ads as ads in the ads options.
