Changing Logo Action on Demo

First off, I’m a big fan of tagdiv and own both your products.

For one of my sites, I plan to use the World Politics/News demo. If you have any quick suggestions or links that might quicken my search in terms of how to change the demo content to my own, that would be appreciated. It’s not covered in the Documentation from my perusal.

Secondly, and the main reason I’m writing, the header and logo for this demo are not sticky on scroll or window resizing. Even though I like everything else about the World Politics demo, I don’t like the disappearing logo and main nav. Instead, I prefer how it’s done in the “Fashion News Demo.”

Is there a non-destructive way to change the logo and main nav action on the World Politics demo to mirror that of the Fashion News Demo? I’ve already set the man nav below the logo, it’s just that it’s not sticky on page scroll or on window resizing.

Thanks in advance. BTW I did a quick search on sticky menus and I found a recent (Feb. 2017) posting on the question with follow-up by you, but it doesn’t fully address my needs. Hence my subsequent question.

Hi,

The demo comes with predefined dummy content that you can replace (not edit) with you own content
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-demos/ when you should decide to uninstall or change the demo all the dummy content will be removed, leaving the website as it was previously.
You have to create your own menu structure – https://forum.tagdiv.com/main-menu/ – https://forum.tagdiv.com/mega-menu/
categories – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-category-settings-work/ and posts – https://forum.tagdiv.com/post-templates-2/
Then you can assign these categories and posts to the elements in the page structure
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/
The Politics demo uses header style 11 and a text logo – https://www.screencast.com/t/ds0nKRVMTD you have the option to make the menu sticky in theme panel – https://www.screencast.com/t/D5vgadKOdL and use the mobile logo on the sticky menu – https://www.screencast.com/t/ucmyzu6mp
The Fashion demo uses Header style 10 and a normal image logo – https://www.screencast.com/t/Ll5BE10G18uh that can be displayed on the menu when sticky.
Please let me know if I can be of further help, or you need any clarifications.

Thanks

thanks. i’m working my way through this. there’s probably a better way to make changes than the way i’m doing — writing a lot of new CSS rules, but I’ve come across two issues that I need a little further help/input on.

• First is the sticky menu. I’m using Style 9 for the Header, with my custom-made Logo (and Retina Logo) uploaded and linked.

Also, I’m using a reversed-out (white) version of the logo for the footer (because of the dark footer background color) as well as for mobile devices (also because of the dark background color).

The problem is, when the menu becomes sticky on Desktop dimensions, the logo it’s using is the (white) mobile logo. Thus, since I’m using a very light background on my main page and header, the sticky logo is not visible. Is there a special CSS rule I can write that will use a smaller version of my MAIN logo for the small sticky menu, rather than it defaulting to the white mobile logo?

• Second, I’m using the politics revslider from the demo and will swap out the pics and link them to new titles and stories. However, I noticed what seems to be a bug. A lot of people MAXIMIZE their browser windows on desktop (especially Windows users), and what happens is that the text in the right-side div of the slider image goes off the page, i.e., outside the boundaries of the picture.

I looked at the rule for the class .tp-tabs.inner.hebe.nav-pos-hor-right.nav-pos-ver-center.nav-dir-vertical and it appears to be positioned absolutely. I tried to add a right-size margin, using both a percentage and a pixel width, but none worked. Neither did attempts at adding padding-right. I noticed you have a 50%/50% rule in the CSS to push in the text evenly on window downsizing, but the problem occurs on window “upsizing.”

Note that this is only an issue on desktop dimensions and larger (since the right-hand column is not used on mobile device screen dimensions). I think it may have something to do with the maximum page width, but before I do anymore back-and-forth chasing down this quirk I thought I’d ask you about it first.

Thanks for your attention and feedback.

NOTE: I used a background image 128px square, repeating.
Even though in a previous question it was stated by your staff that the background image no longer necessitates a boxed layout, I couldn’t figure out a way around it.

I just looked at your demo and the problem I described above does not occur — because that layout is full width.

It’s only when the layout is boxed does the right-column text on the slider go off the page.

So, even though I’m running Newspaper v.7.8, it still says in the Theme panel under Background>Theme Background>THEME BACKGROUND:
“Upload a background image, the site will automatically switch to boxed version.”

I want to keep my background texture but I DON’T want a boxed layout. If I can solve that, then that looks like it’ll solve the problem with the text sliding off the slider.

Please tell me how to override this setting.

Again, according to your staff it is no longer an issue. If that is correct, either it hasn’t been implemented or the mechanism for turning it off is not readily apparent.

Hi,

On the sticky menu you can display the mobile logo or the main header logo
– https://www.screencast.com/t/QPOt1CLJ5
One of these options has to be chosen, or you can disable the feature and not display a logo at all.
Please note that when the header affix is present, meaning the sticky menu, the logo will be reduced in size by default.
For the revolution slider, you should use the auto slide layout when using a background
– https://www.screencast.com/t/kihE2B0bgf3
– https://www.screencast.com/t/BW5pq0OXy

Thanks

thanks Simion –
appreciate the quick feedback. if i can get this issue fully resolved, i will happily re-up my Support for an additional stretch, for both Newspaper and Newsmag.

your tips quickly solved my sticky menu problem. and with the change i made in the revslider settings (from full-width to Auto), it solved the issue of the text falling off the revslider image.

however, and i still believe it’s because i’m using a tiled background (correct me if i’m wrong), the revslider image is NOT extending to the edges of the browser window, as it should (as I want it to), and as it does on your demo.

on your politics demo, no matter how large i resize the browser window, the revslider image continues to extend outward. but on mine, the revslider image width won’t increase past the confines of div class “.td-container.tdc-content-wrap”

please tell me this is not due to the fact that i have a background image and that the site is still defaulting to a boxed layout. again, i thought that issue had been eliminated in the latest version of Newspaper (and Newsmag) but it appears not to have.

update:
pretty much at my wit’s end on this and am finished for the day. what a total waste of time. really discourages me from fiddling with this any longer.

i disabled the background image and simply set an off-white color for the background. but that made no difference in terms of the slider image staying within the confines of the div class .td-container.tdc-content-wrap. i fiddled with revslider settings, i changed header and logo positions and still nothing. the slider image is not extending the width of the browser window.

also, in terms of the Main Menu (Header style), there is another problem. i prefer not to use the centered main menu (style 10) but the left-justified instead (style 9). however, unlike the problematic revslider image, the left-justified menu extends all the way to the left of the browser window as i resize it. it shouldn’t. it should stay within the confines of the .td-container.tdc-content.wrap class. it looks stupid all the way to the left when the logo stays centered on the page.

i want the revslider to extend the width of the page, not the menu. right now, it’s backwards.

i’m just about to throw up my hands on this. i’ve commented out most of the css rules i created, thus, everything i’ve done to this point has been a waste of time. and i still haven’t gotten this layout right. and that’s before i add any content, which is the real work.

i don’t know what to do next except scuttle this theme and try another one.

Hi,

That is the case when using a background image or color. The boxed layout will affect all the elements on the page, like the Revolution slider. It does not matter if you have a white background color or image, it is treated the same. The website will not be boxed if there is no image set, or color
– https://www.screencast.com/t/HCQShTpBsv
Then the Revolution slider can be set to full width – https://www.screencast.com/t/a7U9SP9TeH and display edge to edge on pages. Or you could use this slider element – https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/ios-slider/
However if you decide that the theme is not suited for your project, you can request a refund and we will approve it.

Thanks

well, either you’re full of b.s. or Bogdan is. I was told that the background color/image did not any longer necessitate a boxed theme:

so, since you folks don’t seem to be on the same page with each other, then yes, I would like to request a refund.

i’m not interested in a theme in which a simple background color or image would create a layout or programming nightmare for the developers that they couldn’t figure out, or wouldn’t bother with trying, how to allow a user to employ a full-width layout if they want to style the background. that’s a ridiculous, even infantile, limitation IMO.

pls advise where do i go for my refund?

Hi,

I am sorry that you could not use the theme for your purposes. Unfortunately that is the case, when a background is set the website will be boxed, in order to display the background. If it would not be boxed, the background will not be seen.
The options that Bogdan is mentioning were added in a previous update and are available for the Header section, and the Footer section – https://www.screencast.com/t/IvyARKzKGT
These can be forced to full width regardless of a background. More full width options may be implemented in future updates.
You can request a refund here – https://themeforest.net/refund_requests/new if you consider that you can not use the theme for your website. We will approve the refund.

Thank you for understanding!
