I love the Free News design. Unfortunately the template is unusable for me.
It loads so very slow. Much slower than other Newspaper templates. Also the delayed loading of the image is annoying.
try testing with gtmetrix to see what you can improve

HIGH:complained about server response time and suggested to opt for WP-Rocket.
MED: reduce DOM elements.
This is what I did:
Turned off lazy load
Reduce DOM elements by making the homepage shorter
Turned on Litespeed Cache.
The speed difference is not so big.
Sure the Lazy Load turned off looks much better but the page still loads very slow.
Typical for this Free News template.
The classic Newspaper template loads very fast on my server.
Such a shame.

Something is really wrong on this “Free News theme”. I have Kinsta server and Cloudflare. I build websites with other themes every month. Its something wrong in the code, but cant figure out what. Its super slow.

Not all the demos are optimized. You can use ewww image optimizer to optimize the images, omgf to optimize the fonts, and WP ROCKET plugin.

You dont listen to us. Do you? I know websites. It’s a bug on that template. It’s SUPER SLOW. Something is wrong with it. Please look into it. The others are fast.
Im checking the theme now. It’s something wrong with the menu. I think the menu creates the slowness.
I found the bug. The slowness is because a bug with the MegaMenu. Turn of mega menu and site gets FAST.

What specifically did you do with this menu that made the site speed up? I also use this template on https://polishexpress.eu and would like to speed it up. What I could do in WP Rocket I already did according to the instructions from this forum, but the result still doesn’t satisfy me….
I had to turn of MegaMenu. Remove it. It made the page load 3-4 seconds. Also lazy loading of images must be turned of. Its something strange with that template.

And did removing the megamenu speed up the site a lot? Did it give noticeable results in e.g. SpeedTest Insight? I ask because I really like the expanded menu and it’s a shame to remove if the difference is small….
