Guys I’d had loading trouble with my previous site (current authority site working on) and so in the spirit of trouble shooting I installed Newspaeper theme onto a new website installation and tested the speed test between having astra on there versus the Newspaper theme (Newspper Urban observer-which is one of my favourites) to see if the theme alone was causing the issue. And I was shocked!
Here’s what showeed: All I did to a new site installation was change the theme:
Astra 93 on the speed test.
Newspaper theme = 73 on the speed test.
I have about 12 posts on my website with the newspaper theme installed, and the speed test show 64. That is just terrible. When comparing apples with apples – it’s just doesn’t stack up.
So supoort team – what gives here – why is the comparison so significantly bad? I’ve only had to go through this process since identifying that with such a small amount of posts on a website – how could the load speed be so bad. And even though all my images have been compressed an super optimised, with 12 posts on the webiste this is the result that your template returns?

To achieve the best performance, we recommend:
– optimizing images (e.g. using WebP and compression),
– enabling lazy loading,
– using a caching plugin (like WP Rocket or LiteSpeed Cache),
and implementing a CDN for faster delivery of static assets.

Look I fully understand how to optimize wordpress for speed, but I don’t even have enough data on there for this to be occuring at a 12 post website. Thats should be concerning to you guys – on it’s own. What’s more is that CDN is also activated by default. In the last 20 years – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a template effect such a bad speed report, right out of the box with 12 live posts. I thought you guys would be concerned to get that feedback.
And don’t get me wrong guys – I just love this themes template designs – a couple of key designs there that just rock – I was just shocked at the result of the speedtest. But I will test a few other things and get a refund if necesesary. I actually purchased 3 licenses I love the design so much.
