Hi Alin,
Thanks for that.
It appeared to be a mixture of both — regenerating thumbnails said everything is ok were in fact it wasn’t as php-gd was installed but not recognised by Nginx. The grid issue was indeed caused by an old child theme version.
Thanks a lot for your quick help!
Hi,
These fonts are loaded as they are the default fonts used by the theme. You can edit the td-config file and remove the open sans – http://screencast.com/t/viDr6x0B then check the page source, it shouldn’t be loaded anymore. Please note that you have to do this change in the main theme as this file cannot be overwritten via child theme.
If you set another font for any of the theme sections, it will be loaded in your page source, for example – http://screencast.com/t/JRZtdnRWwsW – http://screencast.com/t/9owH1FfhUTWv – http://screencast.com/t/hVG8jy1U
Thanks!
Hi,
It seems that the thumbnails are not generated, please check if you have GD Library installed, wordpress requires it for cropping. You can see it in your Cpanel. If not, contact your hosting provider. Also that you have writing permissions on /wp-content/uploads and also check your /uploads folder and see if the thumbs are created. Then try to regenerate again your thumbnails, you could try also the Force Regenerate plugin.
Regarding the Grid issue – http://screencast.com/t/4xF3c9fSt please switch to the main theme and see if you still have this issue. If this solve your issue you will have to update the child theme as you use old version. You can find it in the /code folder from theme files that you download from themeforest – https://forum.tagdiv.com/whats-included/
Thanks!
Hi guys,
WordPress: 4.3.1
WP multisite enabled: No
Theme name: Newspaper
Theme version: 6.5.1
Theme database version: 6.5.1
I have to mention that I am using the child theme of Newspaper as provided in the package.
The problem is that although I have chosen Roboto (Google Font) and in here:
Dashboard > Newspaper > Theme panel > Theme Fonts > “Add custom fonts / Change google fonts settings” > Google Font Settings (Latin & Greek) > Save Setings
I end up with the following when viewing source…
<link rel='stylesheet' id='google_font_open_sans-css' href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans%3A300italic%2C400italic%2C600italic%2C400%2C600%2C700&subset=greek%2Cgreek-ext&ver=442213b9f64802786cef7a695850c25f' type='text/css' media='all' />
<link rel='stylesheet' id='google-fonts-style-css' href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Roboto%3A400%2C700&ver=442213b9f64802786cef7a695850c25f' type='text/css' media='all' />
So how do I get rid of “Open Sans” 🙂 and how do I get to load the subsets for Roboto?
Thanks!
Hi
The td_set_post_settings.php file can’t be moved in child theme. For more details about the files which can be overwritten in child theme please check our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thanks!
Not working in child. I do not want to mess up original files. How to set that in child theme?
Hi,
Is this possible through the theme panel?
I have the following category setup
Parent Cat A
-Child Cat 1
-Child Cat 2
–Child Sub Cat 1
I would like to have the category tag display over the featured image if you are viewing an upper level category that has child categories. But NOT display if you are at the bottom of the category list, such as Child Cat 1 or Child Sub Cat 1.
Or, to explain it using the demo, I would like to remove the category tag on this page (but have it appear on its parent page: Fashion)
http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag/category/tagdiv-fashion-week/tagdiv-cosmopolitan/
I don’t understand why the category tag (Cosmopolitan) appears on this page. If the user clicks on the link for the first page of posts, it just refreshes the page.
Can this be done through the theme panel? If not, can you just point me in the right direction.
And, nice theme!
thanks!
Hi,
Thank you for your idiot based explanation but it didn’t help really.
All customizations are based on child theme and custom CSS only.
Regarding plugins, here is the complete list. I don’t think I am using any fantasy plugins – they are all what we are using in many of our projects.
I don’t really know how disabling plugins will help as this is not something we can observe before it happens.
If we disable plugins AND wait if it will happen again, we will not have a working site, this is not a useful solution, sorry.
So, my question is, do you foresee any reasons why it could have happened based on the plugin and theme combination?

Hi,
Thanks for suggestion, it is on our list and we will try to find a solution for this.
An alternative if you use child theme would be to add this code in functions.php file(from child theme) – http://screencast.com/t/hLPMbut3GlOH – http://pastebin.com/HjBxAmTP
Hope this helps!
Hi
Sorry for the delay but we don’t work in weekend!
Unfortunately there isn’t a simple way to add a hock in child theme for that change, but you can simplify this process by adding this parameter in td_module_single_base.php: http://screencast.com/t/5RUbuKghh
Thanks!
Hi,
Unfortunately the javascript file cannot be overwritten via child theme and you will have to make this change in the main theme. I have added this on our list, maybe we will find a better implementation for aspect ratio(black borders).
Thanks!
You guys have the wrong video size coded in your theme for youtube. Why you guys don’t change it is beyond reasoning, unless you like black bars on the top and bottom of your videos. Regardless at least you provide instructions on how to change the JS file in the theme. I can live with that but you really should change it in the parent theme.
Anyways, I have a child theme, I specified the same path /js folder. I have my modified versions of the js file and the minified js file. But for some reason it doesn’t work. If I place these files in the parent theme it works.
Any clues as to why this would be?
Thanks.
Hi alin
add_action('td_global_after', 'hook_td_global_after');
function hook_td_global_after() {
td_global::$default_google_fonts_list = array ();
}
The above code does not remove Google fonts. Once i applied the above code via child theme functions.php file, still Google fonts are applied across the website.
Where it is went wrong?
Hi guys,
I just wanted to say thank you for the new NewsPaper theme. I was finally able to install it on my local copy of my website after battling a difficult DesktopServer & Duplicator issue. I’m enjoying seeing all the extensive upgrades you did, and I’m currently creating customizations using my Child theme. I’m looking forward to improving my site with your many upgrades.
Also, thank you for the support. It’s very refreshing to find such great support and such an active community for a theme.
Anyway, thank you again, great job on the new theme and thank you for all your support!
Craig

Hello,
The settings in the theme panel are the same for the child theme and the main theme because both themes use the same database. As for the theme panel color, the default one is a dynamic one. If you set it different from default (to white for example) it will remain white on all menus selected. Normally the color should not have changed if you did not set it from the panel.
Thank you!
I’ve switched to the main theme and the header style doesn’t work.
I’ve modified only the files in the child theme, and then I’ve deleted those files.
I’ve also checked all main theme files, too, they’re all unchanged.
But I think I’ve understood what’s happened: the MENU TEXT COLOR for the Main Menu was #FFF, and also in the main theme. I’ve restored it to default #000000 and now I’m able to see the menu items.
However, I did not change that setting, I’ve just changed header_menu.php and header-style-7.php in child theme: is it “normal” that theme colors has changed?
and is it correct that the main theme options (theme panel) are the same for the main theme and the child teme?
Thank again, Luca
Hi
I’ve tried to customize header_menu.php and header-style-7.php, including modified files in parts folder inside my Newspaper-child theme: it works, but now I would like to go back to defaults.
I’ve deleted parts folder in the child theme, but if I select Style-7 I get just a blank header.
I’ve also tried to switch to another header style (it works), then Style-7 again, but nothing changes.
I’m not using any caching, by now, and I’ve also restarted nginx and php5-fpm.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance
Hi
@elvinf if you decide to use the child theme your customization won’t be lost when you update the theme to a newer version but this doesn’t mean that all changes will work fine with the new update. You have to check if the customizations from child theme are compatible with the theme update and eventually adjust them properly. Checking the change log is the easiest way to see if the files you modified are on the updated list, so this way you will know which files you need to verify.
Hope this help!
Thanks!
Hello,
Ah, that’s fantastic to hear.
As I mentioned above, I’m new to Child Themes, so from now on I’ll be sure to keep an eye on compatibility with any new updates.
Thank you for your support.
Hi
@azzronulation glad you could manage to solve the issue, but is important to note a few mentions about this. Moving the td_module_single_base.php it’s not incorrect because it’s supported by the theme, you can check the files that can be moved in child theme in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/ However when the theme is updated, many of its files are modified and there is a chance to appear some conflicts with customizations from child theme. That’s why you need to check at every theme update if your customization are compatible with the new theme version, and eventually adjust them properly.
Thanks!
Hello,
Yes it works. You can use modules in the child theme. Just make sure you create the specific path for your file as shown in our tutorial here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thank you.
