Sorry but why dont you recommend using a child theme? How do you want us to do some customization or add new features without a child theme?

Need to clear your cache, both on server and in your web browser.

Basically your browser (and/or website) are loading the OLD CSS, which the new theme files don’t work with, so in effect no CSS loading.

Also remember you may need to update child theme also if using child theme (see changelog, depending on version you’re updating from). Try NOT using a child theme, unless you “must” do that for some oddball reason.

This is a normal caching problem, not an issue with theme, thankfully. 🙂

a)i tried all things your listed options, except “you have to set a featured video”, nothing works.
I dont understand what is meant by “set a featured video”.
Do we have to set every single video imported to the site, to featured image? but this doesn’t make sense.
We use a video robot and it imports different videos from youtube etc.
The index page shows these different videos and they change hourly. In the hundreds.
But still after clicking on them it opens the page but there is no video.

I didn’t set up a single post page. We just installed the theme and child theme as in documentation,
and loaded the settings and demos. http://www.yougothype.com is our page. i hope this is the link you want.
Please help.

b)Infinite Load doesn’t seem to work on any page.
Again we followed the email steps you sent but they didn’t work.
Our settings:
In Visual Composer for Main Page/Index page:
Parent – Homepage Infinite Scroll
Template- Homepage Blank
Used Block 8
-multiple category filter(hollywood, rides, luxury)
-Random Posts

Limit Post Number-5 (this is set automatically)
Pagination – infinite load is set
(load more was also tried. this shows on page. but when clicked its shows load circle but nothing more is added or changed. so this doesn’t work either. FYI.)
But please help with the Infinite Load.

Without these the site is useless 🙁

I have found it best just to work with main theme. I would only use child theme if you have other choice due to some odd internal company policy or something.

So YEAH!!! I did went back to original theme and cleared cache and that fixed my problem.
But I needed my modification back so I reapplied child theme but I started with blank STYLE, then copied and pasted few blocks at a time my modified css, just to make sure everything is normal.

The theme all of a sudden is broken. WordPress is telling me that the ‘template is missing’.

I attempted to edit the style.css as you suggested and the theme broke.

Here are the steps I took.

1 – I logged into cpanel and navigated to the newsmag theme folder. Copied the Style.css and moved it over to the child theme folder.

2 – Navigated to the child theme folder and attempted to edit the style.css. My browser crashed.

3 – I attempted to edit the style.css file from within wordpress and wordpress gave me a message that the theme is broken.

What did I do wrong? How can I fix this?

Is it possible to use the standard woocommerce template override’s though with the theme – i.e. putting them in a folder called woocommerce in my Newspaper child theme?

It happened to me when using the Theme Child, I had to revert back using the main theme.

the shim is still in beta, but I have it working on our two busiest sites and have had zero CPU issues since. (YAY!)

Basically, according to Radu the way it works with the latest VC is that you leave both VC active and the shim “recognizes” that and disables it, but you can still edit pages, supposedly.

In our case I did this:
a) left both VC and shim on server (I’m actually using the January version of VC from 1.6)
b) turn on shim, turn off VC
c) most home page stuff works perfectly; however a few odd elements may NOT work and so you have to choose NOT to use those (not the blocks/modules, or ticker; but couple of the oddball things…)
d) then I turn VC on if I need to edit something on home page; save; then disable VC again.

So, we have VC in plugins folder – otherwise you can’t edit your home page anymore (!). BUT, it’s completely disabled with shim running.

I don’t have “latest” shim version if there is one, mine is still BETA 1.02 … but that works! Yes, it’s still in BETA mode, which is why there isn’t a help item or sticky for that yet, I would imagine. And not everyone needs it; not sure if it works with child themes, as I don’t use those EVER.

Please bear with me here I’m still learning CSS. I have some questions.

Will this new code cause the image to appear above the title and excerpt, or will the image be side-by-side with the title? I’d prefer side-by-side.

Secondly, where exactly does this code need to be inserted? Do I go into the Theme Panel > Custom CSS > Your Custom CSS and paste it in? Or, does it need to be inserted into the stylesheet? And, does this go into the parent or child theme?

As you can see it I made changes to the theme. Unfortunately, I did not use the childtheme. I don’t know how i can update the theme without loosing the change I made.

Hi, just some thoughts (kinda busy this week…),

– Is it suitable for you to have a direct conversion from 0-5 in 0.5 steps to 0-20? (0=>0, 0.5=>2, 1=>4,1.5=>6….) In this case you could only review even values on the 0-20 scale.

Then, you could add save_post action in your child theme and check whether a review exists, do the conversion, and store the result in a convenient way as a post_meta.
Please note td review meta is an array so if you want to extract the values from the database, you would have to do it with a php script or similar but, if you store your own meta value, then this value can already be a number, and this will be easier.

– No way, I need the odd numbers from 0 to 20. There are several alternatives here, some involving php code and other javascript code but it gets more difficult than previous approach. To avoid waste both your and my time, if you are interested, reply to this post and I will give you some hints.

Uh… that’s supposed to be “Child Theme-friendly way to apply this…”

Some suggestions
a) don’t use child theme, as it’s a redirect
b) ensure you have caching running on server like opcache, etc.
c) be sure to use normal WP optimizations (as per my own optimization sticky) — enough memory allocated to php, and upgrade default RAM for WP in wp-config.php -etc.
d) limit queries on post pages — meaning, avoid “most popular 7 days” kinds of things, try one query of “latest 5 stories” vs having three sidebar queries of 3 latest posts from 3 categories; try not using mega-menu to query dbase for story elements .. limit queries in footer
e) remove CSS over-rides in theme panel, move to style.css
f) consider using things like mod_pagespeed and or mod_SPDY if you serve all pages via https
g) turn off image thumbnail sizes you don’t actually use; plan layouts to limit total number of sizes for thumbs to no more than 5 or 3 if really going for speed
h) check server response time — which has nothing to do with theme and needs server to be optimized (our pages respond in 0.31 secs on avg., regardless of theme with only minor optimizations)

And of course look at some of the theme docs for suggestions from TagDiv on speed/performance.

Thanks, that did the job.
Didn’t work on child theme, I had to make the change on base theme.

Just a quick note, the site.js file didn’t exist on the js directory, instead I had to change the site.min.js located in js/min folder.

That info just if anyone is visiting this thread and cannot locate that specific file…
