I would like to keep a “category color” logic. So I would like that when each category (with a custom color) is showed (Homepage, category slide), it shows always the same “category color”.
Could you implement it in your theme options? If not, How could I do it with custom CSS?

I’m using the latest Newspaper. From the beginning I’m struggling with Homepage CSS Issue. All feature post images all moved a little to bottom. First one is alright, but 2nd, 3rd etc are in different line. Please see attached screenshot.

We also need the functions in child theme to work.
This is mandatory to enable custom over-rides for the site, turn off functions in things like Yoast for the menubar, specify custom optimizations, etc.
Child theme functions.php must be enabled for this theme to propagate both professionally and for the WordPress community to support it – period.
This includes over-rides for removing “versions” on javascript and CSS and font calls, removing RSS enclosures, removing error messages at login hack attempts, changing the WP post revisions interval and numbers, etc., etc.
This is one of the core functions (pun intended) for having a child theme.
This may mean looking for another theme provider, after all, if this core function support is removed. I’m already having to do couple of hacks on every version for things still not fixed, and which are *still* not yet defaults (like author byline on post … why should this be optional by a hack?).
C’mon folks. Time to clean up some of the BASE LINE functions of the theme before getting too tricky with some of the other stuff with galleries, or sliders, or whatnot.
Thank you Marius. It actually does not aligned properly with 1170 grid. I did remove the css edit and it looks to left align. I also notice that it does not work either when view from a tablet when using the css edit that you provided.
So basically the css edit works on desktops with 980 grid, but not tablets and the 1170 grid does not align properly for me. I can work with the 980 grid css edit for now, but wanted to make you aware of the rest too.

From child theme nor work only the CSS. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Just edit the function you want to edit and on updates you can use a Winmerge or similar software to compare the changes.

I updated one of our two sites using this theme to 3.7 today and works 100%.
Still waiting on the bug fixes:
1) title links on posts/ indexes should *not* be linked (they are now; bug)
2) featured image top of post 700×409 not linked (should not, makes Google news skip image)
3) WP saying “1 update available” even though all plugs/theme up to date (gremlin!)
Otherwise works perfectly.

Actually I got the same problem but I can manage to solve it. The default font on slider did not support our language, so I had to change to Roboto Condensed.
– First, right click on the title of the slider and choose Inspect Element (im using chrome): http://www.screencast.com/t/qG0WWSkAN
– Second, as u can see, it will direct you to the td-sbig-title (the element you are currently inspecting). On the right, look for font-family of td-big-title-wrap, it shows the currently used font (like this: http://www.screencast.com/t/qG0WWSkAN).
– Now go to Appearance => Editor => style.css. Now look for td-sbig-title-wrap. It will eventually show the used font. You can change it to whatever you want.
I also recommend this method to customize the layout as the way you want by using Inspecte Element feature.

I’m the guy that configured this server ( http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/ ) that gets 99-100 in google page speed and since we don’t yet have a guide about how to configure the theme and server for top speed I will write here some sugestions.
If you have any questions about speed, this is the thread for you. I will make it sticky and I will check it periodically to respond to all your questions.
– the demo is running a stock Newspaper theme
– the demo uses the tagDiv speed booster plugin – basically that plugin activates the compressed javascript from the theme and it also moves all the stylesheets and javascripts to the bottom of the html. This may break compatibility with some wordpress plugins (the ones that we recommend when you install the theme are well tested and work perfectly)
The list of speed recommendations:
– we recommend that you use W3 total cache with just the full page cache module enabled. If you have a lot of ram on your server you can use the APC full page cache (if anyone is interested I can make a tutorial for that but this option requires a dedicated server)
If you have a dedicated server / VPS:
– make sure that you have APC installed or another op cache for php. We have receive some reports that eaccelerator has some problems in specific configurations with our theme and Nginx. This will reduce your server response time.
– make sure that you have compression enabled on your site for html/js/css but not for images
– leverage browser caching – https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/LeverageBrowserCaching google page speed requiers that you set an expiring cache of 7 days or more
Radu, It would be nice to have a compressed option for speed or just assume that anyone that is editing the CSS should know that they would need to modify the compressed version as well.
Maybe just an option in the customizer to choose a compressed version of CSS or default being a uncompressed version.
NOTE: the only reason I don’t compress it myself is to avoid complications with updates since the theme is updated regularly. Not wanting to compress CSS manually twice a month.
If the worst issue I encounter with the theme is css minification I’m just fine so thank you either way

You can make the logo to be bigger, but from code.
You have to delete the ads section from logo_ad.php file and than from css you can make a bigger logo. We are working on an update to let you use full width logos.
w3C cache does implement many of the tricks for optimizing your site. Note you can also do some of that yourself using your htaccess file and make sure you optimize the heck out of your featured images (mine are about 16-24kb max for 700×406). There are quite a few great articles out there on implementing some of the W3C stuff without using the plugin, if you only want to test bits of that. Also setting up an Amazon CDN (S3+cloudfront) and hosting your JS/CSS and fonts there will also speed up your site. You can’t entirely rely on the “theme” to manage your site optimization, as a bunch of that is related to hosting, optimization of images, and minimizing using plugins and fancy jetpack stuff (basically anything that calls out to another site slows yours …). Putting more than two ads on the page from AdSense really slows it down, using anything connected to facebook or twitter “on the page” slows it down. Etc.
