On our demo’s menu are added only some categories that are set to megamenu and pages with submenu items: http://screencast.com/t/dte2bmKwL5 You can make your menu that you need by adding your pages and categories like in the screenshot.

Newsmag theme was designed in 3 columns fixed grid, so the blocks are recommended to be used 1/1 – 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3, or 2/3 + 1/3 like you can also see in backend when you split the row(are colored blue): http://screencast.com/t/ApuMgUzYb2vH

You can use blocks on 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/4 but not all will work fine. Also you can try to use css if you really need to use block like that. For example block 4 – http://screencast.com/t/gGHvXTfN4 add an extra class to the column – http://screencast.com/t/BLLog8BFN1 and add css code in Theme Panel > Custom css: http://screencast.com/t/GpMSJsiC9U

Unfortunately that is the only layout available at the moment for the big grid block and to get more or change it you would need custom changes to it and it would not be an easy job.
We had other request of like this regarding the big grid and we will consider this and add more layouts but this will only happen in future updates.
You could achieve something similar though using block 14 at full width of the page: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag/block-14/

What theme version you use as we had fixed this infinite scroll issue in previous theme versions so please make sure you update the them to the latest version (4.6.1). You can also check our demo and see how it should work: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-infinite-scroll/

the site loading speed is pretty good, almost as good as our demo. I don’t think there is much you can do to get a better score than that. The score is also affected by external resurces: http://screencast.com/t/MOYUQz6YYt1g
