I’m trying to setup AdRotate and use the following code to place in the Header Ad location:

Is this the correct usage? When I use the code the following characters show instead of the ad: ‘); ?>

Thanks Lucian but I made the mistake of not adding the top menu bar and now that I have it’s working ok as you can see here howdoidate.com.

One thing you could help me with is the top menu items are not very legible – a kind of pale grey. How can I make the font black or have a black top header with white fonts?

Simplest way probably in the header php file.

Yes the lines seems to be working fine, now it´s only this weather report I would like to have in the top.

FYI, for those curious –
couple of things I’ve noticed

1) ad loading seems to slow down page more than it used to;

2) apparently it is better to use the long https://?= URL for embedding YouTube videos on post vs the http shortcode since it’s a redirect.

3) optimizing font loading is still a huge hairy deal to deal with, and to optimize site one must consider adding font calls to style.css at end and remove from the functions and/or the speedbooster functions file (depending on theme version); theme uses 3 Google fonts by default

4) running 3 ads on page does slow it down vs 2

this page has GTMetrix score of “95” without fully optimizing font loading, and need to remove the redundant images being loaded in footer for latest items.

still, page load time is slower than it could be.

When I optimized the crap out of Newspaper a few months back; I optimized font loading, and also had only text ads loading from AdSense. Funky thing with that is Google now loads unoptimized favicons with some text ads which will fail the image dimensions test, and nothing can be done about it. Full stop.

So, I’ll be playing with this a bit more this month, as I did with the Newspaper theme a year ago, and may have a little “insane optimization” guide for y’all.

Like adding expiration headers for the icon font to the htaccess file 😉

Looks like you need to better optimize images, add better expiration headers, deal with some issues of duplicate elements loading from 2 different locations, etc.

The person probably is just using the “latest” stories and made the header “trending stories” since all the new stories will be trending this week over old content.

I do know android has had a lot of problems with Disqus over the past couple of years.

Remember that block is loading via JavaScript in a div at bottom of theme. The theme doesn’t load that or apply a ‘hide’ style class to that, it comes entirely from Disqus.

Only CSS for Disqus in theme I know of is the margin hack I posted couple days after theme launch which was rolled into v1.2 I believe, so that it wouldn’t touch the borders.

You are correct, the Disqus comments are not loading on your site on my iPhone 6 in portrait mode. Might be due to having ad banner at bottom of story, or the social links plugin on the post page (I only put mine on home page to not slow down the post for PageSpeed). I have one header ad and two sidebar ads. But I’m also seeing some errors on your home page with the grid, where one image shows twice and then blank boxes — so I see Dixie Bell story twice, then four blank grey boxes. Both portrait and landscape mode.

Not a theme issue; it’s because something tried to access the theme folder directly which nobody should do. Just like somebody trying to access /wp-includes/ or similar.

Normally you will get a 500 error or similar when changing / updating theme, one time. This is normal and not a flaw/bug; but how WordPress works and Google accessing something at same time update is being done, or if somebody trying to hack your site by testing the theme folder for vulnerability.

If you continue to get the error over and over beyond the normal happening from theme switch, you need to modify your WordPress install as noted here – it’s *not* a theme issue:
