Hi,

I have tested this using the latest theme version (4.2.2) and worked fine:

homepage-bg-with latest articles template:

* http://screencast.com/t/bzBXOKXZ
* http://screencast.com/t/wcDYwq1wS

homepage-with articles list template:

* http://screencast.com/t/iUalUyAv
* http://screencast.com/t/mqFxQW0rVoy

Please make sure you use this right and you set the custom sidebar like I did and also that you have widgets in your custom sidebar: http://screencast.com/t/siiiAwoHWuU
Should work fine.

Thanks

That should be the file page-homepage-loop.php in the root directory of the Newspaper theme. Copy the contents to a new file named page-homepage-custom.php and edit the following line at the top of the file.

/* Template Name: Homepage - with article list */

To read like:

/* Template Name: Homepage - Custom with articles */

Then upload that changed file to the theme directory root where you found its source. The new page template should now be showing in the templates drop-down menu on the editor screen. Make your desired changes to that file.

Let me know if I missed anything, guys.

Hi

I want to create a custom page template and copy everything from the “Homepage – with Article list”. I would like to style it a differently and don’t want to conflict with the existing template.

Please help.

Thanks

When editing the homepage,
in the last articles I’ve set a custom sidebar to the existing ones.
For example, I chose the HOME.

This, however, did not appear in the homepage.

the custom sidebar does not appear on the homepage under latest articles

Hi,

Yes, I gave it wrong, sorry about this, please use it like this: http://screencast.com/t/r4tlzUla
Using it like that wont affect the other pages, just the homepage: http://screencast.com/t/UX3dIV0YbdVQ

Remove all and use only this:

.home .td-page-title {
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
}

.home .td-grid-wrap {
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px !important;
}

Thanks

Hi,

I’m not sure that I understand what are you trying to do. For post pages and other templates you can chose the sidebar from here: http://screencast.com/t/Ib0vSuhToo
For other pages you can chose the sidebar directly freom page editor: http://screencast.com/t/Eykf2td2E or add an widgetised sidebar element and set it like this: http://screencast.com/t/hI8KFdYVeiG1
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi,

Please remove the css I gave you before and add only this one:

.home .td-page-title {
margin: 0px 0px 3px 0px;
}

.home .td_980_not_resp .td-grid-wrap {
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px !important;
}

This will apply only on homepage and will not affect the other pages.
Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Hi,

Right now I can see that the blog page it’s set as your homepage, you can change this from WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Reading and chose a page you designed as your homepage: http://screencast.com/t/vdcOwLKH6s
You can create the same layout and design for your homepage like this:
1. First add a new page, add a name for it(which you will set in the Reading settings as a homepage), after this set the template, then switch to “Classic mode” like this: http://screencast.com/t/rBoKKS5a0F
2. Secondly change the to “text” view and add the code from below, like this: http://screencast.com/t/TnCeQsNyXfn

The code for the homepage:

[vc_row el_position="first last"][vc_column][td_slide_big limit="8" tag_slug="taggggggg"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][td_block2 limit="6" custom_title="DON'T MISS" ajax_pagination="next_prev" show_child_cat="all" category_id="19"][td_block1 limit="5" header_color="#f65261" custom_title="TECH AND GADGETS" ajax_pagination="next_prev"][td_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_1"][td_block2 limit="6" custom_title="TRAVEL GUIDES" ajax_pagination="next_prev" header_color="#82b440" sub_cat_ajax="n"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id="td-demo-1"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][td_block2 limit="6" custom_title="FASHION AND TRENDS" ajax_pagination="next_prev" header_color="#ff3e9f"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][td_block4 limit="1" custom_title="EDITOR PICKS" ajax_pagination="next_prev" header_color="#2b2b2b"][td_ad_box spot_id="sidebar"][vc_wp_tagcloud taxonomy="category"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][td_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_1"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

3. After this switch back to “Backend Editor” and customize the blocks with your content by editing them from here: http://screencast.com/t/0TjfKvN8U18 Do the same for sliders, sidebars, widgets, you can do it as you like.
4. Finally go to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Reading and set the “Front page displays” as a static page and select your newly created homepage instead of the blog page.

Please make sure you follow our documentation, we have added there guides on how to use the theme right.

Hope this helps!
Thanks

On my homepage. On the right side I add Block 7 and Block 5. There is a big white gap between them and I would like to reduce this distance. (check the photo I add here)

Great! Yeah, your homepage will be using the modules. They can be found in your WordPress directory like this: /wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/modules. The specific line is:

<?php //echo $this->get_author();?>

Which will become:

<?php echo $this->get_author();?>

Thank you! The bylines are now showing on posts, but not on the homepage. Is this still possible? —I can’t find where to edit the modules.

Hi there …

I bought you very nice newspaper theme. and so far i think i managed to understand most of the features. It’s really amazing …:)

But there are some things i do not understand, how to fix this for me. When clicking on a category in the menu, it does not show the category ( with it’s predefined article list). It opens the permalink for the clicked category, but shows another homepage.

my site is: http://www.1-2-family.de

what did i overlook within the configuration?

thanks in advance and best regards
torsten

Log in to your site. Visit your site’s homepage. There should now be a black bar across the top (the admin menu). One of the buttons says “Edit Page”. http://www.screencast.com/t/NuUpOguC

(It’s also possible to get there from Dashboard -> Pages -> All pages, but I don’t know the exact name of your homepage.)

So you pretty much want all the whitespace gone at once? That’s a lot of CSS; here’s my shot at it.

First, still keep this:

.td_mod_wrap .meta-info {
display: none !important;
}

Now:

.td_block_wrap {
margin-bottom: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
}

.td_mod_wrap {
margin-bottom: 0px;
}

.td_mod1, .td_mod2, .td_mod3, .td_mod4, .td_mod5, .td_mod6, .td_mod7, .td_mod8, .td_mod9  {
margin-bottom: 0px!important;
}

.block-title {
margin-bottom: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
}

.td_mod_wrap .thumb-wrap {
margin-bottom: 0px;
}

.wpb_row {
margin-bottom: 0px;
}

.td_mod3 {
min-height: 65px;
}

This removes all the whitespace that I could see on your homepage. As others have said, I actually think this is way too dense a style. Having some whitespace is good!… Play with the above numbers until you’re happy with it.

This last bit is the whitespace between vertical elements. It’s experiemntal and I haven’t tested it thoroughly. It’s tricky to get rid of this because it does not play well with the grid layout that the whole theme is designed around (and doesn’t change the overall site width, e.g. your main menu). I would personally avoid using it.

.span1, .span3, .span4, .span6, .span8, .span9, .span11, .span12 {
margin-left: 0px !important;
}

Again, change that number and if necessary separate the individual span classes so you can adjust their margins individually.

Note that it looks like you have a row after your video in the page editor, which is the source of the whitespace between that and the footer. You also have a text widget in the sidebar, which is the source of the whitespace above the socials widget.

There may also be whitespace elsewhere on your site that’s not on the homepage. Most of it would be caught by the above, I think…

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I have checked your site and noticed that you use the Homepage with background template so the big slider from the top of the page doesn’t have any posts because you don’t have any posts in your featured category, you need to add posts into featured category which will show up in the slider.

Thanks
