@Chris

First of all, I don’t think you can determine if the user is accessing your website from a mobile device or from a desktop in order to use REGEX. This aside…

As a user, do you think it’s normal that if you access a webpage from your smartphone, to get 2 different versions: one AMP and one regular, on the same device, depending whether you clicked the link on Facebook or Google? I don’t. I ALWAYS expect to be served the same page on the same device, be it AMP or not.

Again, I am talking only about mobile devices.

Lastly, Google used in many examples Techcrunch as an AMP example. If you go to any blog post on Techcrunch from you smarthphone, you will ALWAYS get the AMP version, no matter if you navigated there directly, via Facebook or via Google.

That’s the point of AMP. To always serve a fast webpage to MOBILE devices.

P.S. I am not saying to serve AMP pages to desktops. No, never. Only to mobile devices.

Can we display the header menu of the website in mobile devices?

Sadly, that’s how AMP works. The browser, referrer, and source origination usually determine if AMP version loaded. Meaning, if somebody comes from FB or SERPS and the link itself is not an AMP link, the normal page is loaded, as expected. If on mobile connection, and browser and Google have identified as AMP compatible using AMP enabled browser, then the AMP page loads, or if followed from AMP enabled link in SERPS.

If you forced all traffic to AMP, defeats purpose of having non-AMP pages, and you might as well just setup a REGEX in your system to redirect all traffic to /amp/ endpoint, but outside scope of the theme.

I don’t work here. But been using AMP since it was in beta in 2015.

I’m assuming you read up on Google copious notes on what AMP is for, when and when it doesn’t work, how to serve, etc. ?

WHAT THE HELL IS AMP: https://www.ampproject.org/

(( sorry if that didn’t help … ))

Thanks. We have tested on other iPhones and can replicate the problem.

It doesn’t seem to do it on mobile preview on Chrome. Just on actual phones.

We are noticing that “td-js-loaded” is taking a long time to load. Wondering if something in the “tagdiv_theme.min.js?ver=8.8” animation is slowing the load down?

What do you think? Thank you.

Hi,
I’ve just installed mobile theme plugin and i’ve also read that there are no extensive customization option for the theme. But the Bigger Logo in the footer area and About Us text is really destroying the look. How i can deactivate this section. I don’t want logo and rest of the two texts there, the footer menu is enough to be there. I want to hide from mobile the area as shown in screenshot below.

Hi,

So the footer logo on mobile should be of the same size as the header logo, on mobile.
Try something like this – https://www.screencast.com/t/gsoz9vsmDZ
That should be entered in Theme panel->Advanced CSS in the phones section

.footer-logo-wrap img {
max-height: 100px;
}

Thanks

Hi,

Please check the support hours in the top banner, we try to answer all topics as soon as possible. Also we answer from oldest to newest, so replying in your own topic will only delay this.

So the problem here is that the ads are not displaying on mobile, while displaying on desktop. Are you using the mobile theme plugin? This has different ad spots in the theme panel
https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-mobile-theme/
We could also take a look, provide a link to your website so we can see the problem.

Thanks

Hi,

Be sure that the menu items are added as categories
https://www.screencast.com/t/bdQfauJVi
Then the menu items can be clicked and lead to a respective category. Mega-menus will not be displayed on mobile as they are on desktop, it will be displayed as a drop-down menu.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for creating this guide. I’m sure it will help users who need particular menus for mobile devices.

The mobile theme plugin handles this situation by allowing a second menu created specifically for mobile devices.

Thank you!

Hi,

@KENGBOGASTON
That would happen if you use the mobile theme plugin. Find out more about it here
https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-mobile-theme/
The front-page on mobile when the plugin is active, will consist of a grid displaying posts that you enter in the Featured category
https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-posts-2/
Then a latest articles section will follow.

Note that the mobile theme plugin is optional, you can deactivate it. It is meant to be used if you want to display a different and simpler version of the website on mobiles.

When deactivated, the default responsive version of the theme will display on mobiles, showing the same content from desktop.
Test with and without the plugin, choose what you think is best.

Thanks

You only need to enter the required values, not the whole ad code
https://www.screencast.com/t/fM7Gh5X3
Be sure to select Google Adsense as the ad type. Then be sure to test on a mobile device or mobile emulator to actually see the ads displayed.

I’ve been having an issue where my mobile menu doesn’t open. When clicked, the background just goes grey. I’ve checked Page Speed Insights, deactivated all plug-ins besides TD Composer, and cleared cache.

What I just found out is that the menu actually does open, but it takes 2 minutes! Screenshare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nMGmZKCzUk.

Thanks for any fixes!

Many folks have asked about this.
This is the method I use.

I want to be able to selectively show or hide menu items from the main desktop menu or the mobile menu.
Why?

Sometimes there are many extra buttons a user will need to have access to quickly on a mobile device, but these items dont need to show on the main menu. Often we add supplemental links at the footer of websites for advertising inquires or secondary pages. We dont want them on the main menu, but they are important, yet we dont want mobile users scrolling for miles to find the button either.

or another reason…

The items shown in a drop down or megamenu on the desktop do not look good on mobile.
for example, you may have a button called “help” on the desktop. This button would indclude items like “reset password” or “your account”.

on a desktop it rolls over very nicely, but on mobile it requires an extra tap to the “help button” and then drop the menu down to see the choices.

so to solve this you can selectively hide or show menu items via CSS
They will still load and might be visible for a split second as CSS will only visually hide it wont remove it.

You will often need to create TWO menu items of the same things.
You can show one to the desktop users and show another to the mobile users.

To hide menu items from desktop but show on mobile:
(find the menu item number in the menu section of wordpress, just roll mouse over and look at the link at the bottom of the browser, it will contai your menu item #)

Then add this to the Custom CSS section of your theme panel with your menu numbers
(replace 123 with your menu item number)

@media
(min-width:767px){
.menu-item-123, .menu-item-123{
display:none!important;
}

To show items ONLY on desktop and HIDE on mobile try this
It is especially usefull when you dont want drop downs to appear on the mobile menu slideout but still want the items to show in the mobile menu slideout.

@media
(max-width:767px){
.menu-item-123, .menu-item-123{
display:none!important;
}}

Admins feel free to correct me.
