Alin, so the sharing buttons are hardcoded?
BASIC SEO TIPS:
Note that Google rolled out new version of PANDA recently. They continue to refine placement, and are putting emphasis on mobile friendly, ORIGINAL CONTENT, “answers to questions,” https capability, pagespeed insights, sitemaps, and the usual stuff still relevant:
a) inbound links from organic sites, not paid text links or text ads, help placement
b) blocking bad links from “bad sites” such as low quality scrapers – you can disavow bad sites (we do this with sites like ‘searchnaked’ which had thousands of links to us)
c) proper schema markup
d) limit junk posts (e.g., youtube video and one sentence — is not original content)
e) limit content you “steal” from other sites then link to them as source — write your own version, get your own photo; that helps your ranking
f) site structure matters; good navigation, prioritize the POST over categories, tags, etc.
g) don’t sell text links, avoid popups, interstitials that block content loading for Google bot
h) READ the free Google guide to best practices for SEO
i) write original headlines – check your headline to see if it already exists; do something different!
j) posts should have at least 5 paragraphs so it looks like original post and not excerpt of another post
k) don’t use “next page” for home page; conflicts with your category indexes
l) update site regularly — updates every 6 weeks shows lack of new content
m) create your own images where possible, vs copying somebody else’s
n) learn to use your Google webmaster tools (now “console”) properly
o) don’t overload pages with too many ad modules from adsense, amazon, other ad system, etc. — too many ads pollutes your pages
p) use h tags for your relevant subheads in your posts, not just bold sub heads — couch your subheads as answers to questions people might ask “The right way to boil spaghetti” … etc.
q) make sure guest posts are not also being posted on other sites (!!)
r) share the heck out of your posts to social media, but use the social media worth sharing to and ignore the stuff nobody uses anymore (sorry, delicious, diigo, Technorati, etc.)
s) don’t use sock puppets for clicking your ads; paid likes on social media; or similar
t) answer comments on your posts to create dialog
u) make backups of your site often and carefully (!) — if your system crashes, and you’re off the web for prolonged period of time — very bad for SEO after xx days
v) do you have a backup plan if your host goes out of business, or GoDaddy DNS crashes again and your site is down?
w) consider spending a small amount on Google ads to promote your best posts or site on the topic you most want to be found under, like “horse breeding” or whatever
x) make sure your site is verified with all the top search engines
y) ignore stupid things like so called “ranking sites” like Alexa which are completely wrong on traffic, including their inability to track shortcode use
z) check your site regularly to ensure it’s secure ! Make sure you have security plan. Make sure you have privacy policy on your site.
Share and enjoy! 🙂

You will need to edit this section with the new code you wish to use …
http://screencast.com/t/yTLsitvpdaoU
if anybody else has done this, sharing a tutorial would be super cool!
As a general tip, it’s almost impossible to style the “pop over” search results for Google custom search (CSE). We’re using it on our main site (not running WP), and ended up just doing a basic search that feeds to Google’s server.
Google looks like they are finally updating the hideous old docs for GSE, but still a mess.
Upshot — it’s basically up to you to figure it out, hire somebody to do that, or hope some kind soul who has already done it might share.
You might search forum archive as it’s an old topic that has come up before.
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Thank you the clarification on the menu and the link to the block layouts. I didn’t see the code for the sharing though. Can you please place that again?
Thanks!
Hi,
Is an active item from menu, both pages HOME and Sponsorship Information have the same URL destination: http://vbjusa.staging.wpengine.com/
see here: http://screencast.com/t/wjlctQZkD1W
For sharing here is the code, you can remove each line or reorder like you want. This is for the top section, for bottom sharing the code is at the bottom in that file.
On our demo http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-1/ you will find all the blocks in Features menu http://screencast.com/t/pIaklaV50x
Thanks for the message!
The site I am working on is here: http://vbjusa.staging.wpengine.com/
In the image linked below the menu item Advertise always has a red line under it – even if I am not hovering over that item. If I hover over Advertise the dropdown works but Link Sponsorship Information is always highlighted, even when I am not hovering over that item. Does anyone know why this is?

In the next image linked below are the sharing icons: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest. Where are the controls for these in case I’d like to remove or reorder them?

Lastly, I see in the Newspaper 6 documentation that there are examples of how modules look. Are there also examples of what each Block looks like?
Thanks!

I noticed that the Theme Panel setting:
Post Settings > Sharing > Article Like/Tweet (both the top and bottom versions) make my site crash in IE11. No probs in other browsers.
I use latest theme version, but I don’t know if the bug (I guess it’s a bug) was already there in earlier versions, because I never used this setting before.
Hey Guys,
I will shoot you a private email with the details , but for me the facebook , twitter, and the Google + Social shareing buttons don’t show the logo in the button , it only shows the test I manually supplied in the td_module_blog file.
Cheers
Ok thanks for sharing:).

Hello,
we received an email about the necessary implementation of user consent about cookie policy.
Will you implement a solution that would be responsive and advise visitors of the usage of cookies (Adsense, etc.)?
Here is the email:
Dear Publisher,
We want to let you know about a new policy about obtaining EU end-users’ consent that reflects regulatory and best practice guidance. It clarifies your duty to obtain end-user consent when you use products like Google AdSense, DoubleClick for Publishers, and DoubleClick Ad Exchange.
Please review our new EU user consent policy as soon as possible. This requires that you obtain EU end users’ consent to the storing and accessing of cookies and other information, and to the data collection, sharing, and usage that takes place when you use Google products. It does not affect any provisions on data ownership in your contract.
Please ensure that you comply with this policy as soon as possible, and not later than 30th September 2015.
If your site or app does not have a compliant consent mechanism, you should implement one now. To make this process easier for you, we have compiled some helpful resources at cookiechoices.org.
This policy change is being made in response to best practice and regulatory requirements issued by the European data protection authorities. These requirements are reflected in changes recently made on Google’s own websites.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
Regards,
The Google Policy Team
Hi Volnus,
Thanks for your suggestions and for sharing this!
I’ll forward this to our developers and get back with an answer in this regard as soon as possible.
Thanks again and sorry for the inconvenience!
FB often has issues capturing images, particularly in the a.m. Sometimes they may have an empty box with just your site name/URL, and nothing else.
Often you may need to share, then go to your timeline and use the “refresh attachment” option.
In some cases the image will appear automatically after sharing.
This is unrelated to your site or theme. FB just gets messed up at times as they are still a young tech company making it up as they go. Similarly their promote post system broken as they push people to use the new “ad manager” (trying to copy Twitter basically).
They are a web property still in development at all times. So, you cannot “control” what they do, only “give them hints” and hope it works.
I deal with this every day across our news network – some using different theme, some using Newsmag, some not even using WordPress and properly optimized.
It’s the nature of FB that sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Sorry!
Hi guys,
I have used WordPress SEO plugin to generate OG tags, and after posting articles I have used Facebook Debugging tool to refresh the OG tags.
But every time when I share an article via Newspaper’s buttons, or via my Facebook Fan Page, the featured image appears to be broken. I’m not sure how to fix this issue, could you please advise?
My website is: http://www.dailyenglish.in.th/ – you can try sharing the articles to see the broken image issue.
Thanks in advance!
Ken
Yes, I’ve followed the Console and I see such error
“Font from origin ‘http://cdn.bestwebhostinghero.com’ has been blocked from loading by Cross-Origin Resource Sharing policy: The ‘Access-Control-Allow-Origin’ header has a value ‘http://cdn.bestwebhostinghero.com’ that is not equal to the supplied origin. Origin ‘http://www.bestwebhostinghero.com’ is therefore not allowed access.”
I tried to add
” <IfModule mod_headers.c>
Header add Access-Control-Allow-Origin “*”
</IfModule>”
into my .htaccess
but not working for me.
Hi rgaweb,
Thanks for sharing this! I’ll add this on our request list, we’ll review the code and consider this for theme’s next versions.
Thanks for the message!
Have a nice day!
Lucian C.
I don’t mind keeping it.
It loks great.
The problem is that it’s not working well with the sharing plugin.
I didn’t have the problem with previous version of the theme (unless there was no that effect)
Hi,
You can leave them enabled and hide them using custom css then the popup will work and you will have just the sharing buttons on the page.
Use this custom css in theme panel > custom css section to hide the like/tweet buttons:
.post .td-classic-sharing {
display: none;
}
Thanks
Hi,
That happens when you use the social sharing buttons without the like/tweet ones. Enable the like/tweet top or bottom ones and check again: http://screencast.com/t/VK5O6jqUMUke
Thanks
Hi,
It usually happens when loading the font file (which contains those icons) from another host/url. Check your browser’s console if you have an error like this – http://screencast.com/t/fKy2k43k9kc
The solution would be to load them from the same url as the site or try this solution – http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/71630/font-blocked-from-loading-by-cross-origin-resource-sharing-policy-no-access-co
Thanks!
The plugin “WP Super Cache” is working properly, but once I activate the “MaxCDN”, the abnormal code will be displayed on “Sharing”; and the symbol “>” also shows wrong.
I need your assistance.
Thanks for your help Lucian.
In regards to your sharing buttons, how can i change twitter to popup rather than on a full page?
Thanks
