First thanks to 1234.LV for the suggestion.

Bogdan is TagDiv contemplating to join the Go Global in the foreseeable future?

Hey Mirina,

I found a solution. Just upgrade the WPML. I now have the ” WPML Multilingual CMS 3.6.1″ version. And with a little bit of tweaking the language switcher can be again in the top bar.

Hope it helps!

HI, i’ll try to explain better, on the home page with Chinese language (not latin encoder), the preview of each post description shows the full post, it does not stops after few words like in italian or englesh language.
The only plugin i use is “wpml” translation plugin. I suppose it is an encoding issue.
(How can i send you a screenshot?)
Thanks

Hello,

Sorry but WPML is not a tested plugin so i cannot provide any solution in this regard. Here is a list of our tested plugins: http://screencast.com/t/Ue4qn9S1dRTM
You can try a free free multilingual plugins such as qtranslate-x but we have no recommendation to make.
Sorry but plugin implementation is not part of the theme support. (https://forum.tagdiv.com/support-policy-2/)

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi,
We have installed WPML plugin, and we use ES (main language), EN and IT as multi-language, and your theme seems to be uncompatible with this plugin.
The language menu is added to the last item of theme menu, displaying the current language. But it doesn’t displays language list (menu children).
I noticed that the language menu children are present in HTML code, but I believe that by some issue in theme javascript, these children aren’t displayed on parent menu hover (missing theme-required children-menu classes?).
Please, can you fix this and send me the fixed file(s)?
Your early reply will be highly appreciated, taking into account that our site is in production.

Best Regards”

Hi,
Sorry but since WPML is not tested, we cannot provide any solution for it. Try to place it in another spot as 1234.LV suggested above.
Thank you for your understanding

Hello –

Did you find a solution to this problem? I am experiencing similar behaviour. All is ok in the original language (English) and the WPML language menu / widget shows in the “Top Menu” but it is not possible to select any other other languages (Spanish or German).

Any ideas?

Many thanks and best regards,

Neil.

Hello 1234.LV,

Unfortunately, the WPML plugin is not part of our list of tested plugin with the theme and we have no idea about the theme behaviour with this type of plugin and also, we cannot say for sure if it will work or not with the theme, sorry!
I do not know what type of plugins you use for translate your website but please notice that we cannot provide support in this regard, sorry! We have made some tests using the qTranslate X and seems to work fine with the theme but we cannot say 100% because this is not a fully tested plugin with the theme.

Thanks for the message and for your understanding!

Hello alex06,

Unfortunately, there is no option for this, but you can change the mega menu subcategories order from the code or by using a plugin – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/mega-menu-subcategories-arrangement/ , maybe this will be useful for you. The WPML plugin is not tested with the theme and we cannot say for sure if it will work or not with our product, sorry!

Thanks for your understanding!

Dear tagDiv team,

I have a question/problem that I can’t seem to resolve by myself.

To make my page multilingual I am using WMPL. The site is originally in Latvian (I have translated it through your theme’s option). The second language is English.

The top-menu language switcher worked just fine until Newspaper 7.3 update. Then it became nonresponsive. I tried to put the widget in a different menu – it works. Just doesn’t work in the top menu.

Do You have any suggestions how to solve this?

* Here is the problem highlight: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNcgbiNH83CkuYcdb4fFOKglAwTfTQ2jzYBUhndcDYnSNvZVkaV9xesZtFxfrhxLA/photo/AF1QipNKbpMUXp3036V76igR8IG8u1i7l1R1fizJFzVX?key=OUdmOGNPSUFpYlM3Q2RzZjd1ZXdKQXVjdVI0d3hn
* My site: http://www.HELSUS.org
** Newspaper – 7.5
** WPML (WPML Multilingual CMS) – 3.5.1.1.

Thank You!

Is anyone using Newsmag with the WPML plugin? I tried it and so far it is working just fine. Sometimes it is having a hard time in displaying the language selector properly without extra coding, but it works just fine in the top header menu bar. However, that menu is not displayed in the mobile version, so mobile users can’t select a language. Any ideas how to overcome this? Can that menu be displayed also in the mobile version?

Hi guys,

I got the job to translate http://www.biblword.net into spanish (http://www.palabrasbiblicas.net/). Much of the translations by WPML work. But some static elements can’t be translated it seems.

– I want a different logo on the Spanish website. How can I do this?
– On the top right of the website you see several links to twitter, facebook and so on. Can I change this in spanish to different links?
– On the english version I have integrated Facebook Comments of the English Facebook page. Can I also change this plugin into the Spanish Facebook Page comments?

I searched and searched, tried and tried.. but cant get these things to work. I hope you guys can help me out.

Hi BkkGreg
I understand Bogdan’s “official” position about tested plugins, but, as developer, I think that it’s quite impossible always using just tested plugin.
For example, in countries like Italy, where the English language is not quite widespread, it is often necessary to create sites that use two or more languages.
I confirm that I have used WPML and Newspaper across multiple sites, and that those sites are working, but also confirm that, especially in the plugin or theme version changes or theme, sometimes compatibility issues exist.
as also it happens with many other WordPress themes and plugins, however…
Best regards, Luca

Hello,
WPMl and VisCom are not tested with our theme so we cannot say for sure if the plugins will work or not wioth our theme. Tested plugins mean not just that we tested them but it means we are constantly update our theme to keep up with the plugin updates and maintain compatibility between the theme and the plugins marked as tested.
Thank you!

Hi Ipecchi,

I am also wondering if I can use WPML for the Newspaper theme. Have you had any more conflicts with VisCom since the update? Even though it’s not officially supported, does it still work okay?

Thanks.

HI

I am not sure where did you find that code but I assume that you’re suing a plugin which can switch site’s language. If somehow your using this implementation: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/custom-language-switcher/ make sure that you follow the steps indicated there but we can’t guarantee the it will work fine with our theme as we din’t made any tests with wpml plugin.
If you really need to use this plugin and you’re not aware of the steps that must be taken in this regard my advice is to look for someone who can hep you with implementation or hire a freelancer to do it for you.

Thanks!

Hello !

I have a few problems with the translation of the theme. My blog has 5 different languages, I manage the translation with the plugin WPML.

First, is it possible to translate the description of my company located in the footer in the about us section ? Because for the moment I have the English description of my company for all languages.

Then, I have a problem with the sidebar of my category page. For each category I have a customized sidebar with widgets. It works perfectly with the English version of the theme (default language) but for the other languages it doesn’t show me the customized side bar but the default one. As if, for example, my french categories weren’t related to the sidebar I chose in the theme panel category section. Is there a way to solve that problem ?

Thanks so much for your help !

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no such function so it will have to be made custom. Unfortunately we cannot help in this matter as we do not own a copy of wpml and time does not allow us to provide any custom work for plugin implementation. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks.

Hi Bogdan,

I also investigated with WPML team and they advised following:

from what I can see, your theme uses a constant in gettext calls.
It is not safe to use variables, constants or functions in gettext calls.
http://ottopress.com/2012/internationalization-youre-probably-doing-it-wrong/

So you can take this as a feedback, and also they suggested a workaround:

– Go to WPML -> Theme and plugins localization
– Scroll down to the “Strings in the theme” section
– Enable the “Automatically use theme or plugin text domains when gettext calls do not use a string literal” option.
– Press the “Scan the theme for strings” button
– Go to WPML -> String Translation
– Search and translate the strings.

Hi,
Thank you for understanding. We do listen to our users and we do our best to provide the best solutions we can but some are more accessible than others. We are not saying we won’t make wpml compatible though. Maybe in a future version of the theme we will be able to find a solution for the plugin implementation.
Thanks.

Hi Bogdan,

thank you for your long answer. This is exactly what I expected, however without my voice raised, there would be no progress at all.

I love Newspaper so much, that I want to keep it, even if the compatibility is not secured. Your theme is number 1 for me, the same way as WPML for translations. You do a great job with the theme, but if you manage to follow some standard processes for WordPress, I would only appreciate it.

So please keep the money that I paid, you fully deserve it. But also keep on listening to your clients in future.

Thank you
Marek

Hello,

We understand your frustration and we do understand the inconvenience of not being able to use your preferred plugin. Unfortunately this is the case with all premium themes. The code we created cannot be recognized by all plugins as it’s a custom code and plugins are built on the standard wordpress code. In order for us to make the WPML plugin compatible we will have to change a lot of the theme code. It is not an easy modification or adaptation we can make. If it were so, we would be able to add more and more plugins to the tested plugins section, but unfortunately this cannot be the case as different plugins use different functions to work. We can make one work and break another. Plugins also get updated and their code gets changed as well. Even if we were to hack our theme to get the plugin to work, it does not mean it will work if the plugin gets updated. For the tested plugins on our list, we always have to make the proper adjustments for their updated versions to work with our theme and we simply cannot do this for every plugin out there. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue. It bugs us as well but unfortunately there is little we can do about it. We would love to be able to provide a fully compatible theme with all of the plugins out there so our users can benefit from all of the features available, but unfortunately this idyllic world does not exist. The world of coding is a very ruthless environment:)
If the WPML plugin is a must-have and our theme cannot be the one that can provide the best solution for you, we will be able to provide a re-fund so you can chose another theme that best fits your project. You can request a re-fund from the envato platform if you so desire.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Hello,

I was reading many threads on this forum and many tagdiv clients asked for WPML compatibility.

It is just not acceptable that you dont even try to get certified by WMPL (https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/).

You could get even more copies sold if you offer this compatibility. WPML is for me more important than any other plugin and ignoring it is not the way your development team should go.

Before copy pasting standard reply that you dont support and so on, please take 1 minute to think again and review the possibility to move your theme to next level.

And yes, I could pay even more for your theme if this is supported…

Thanks
Marek

Hi,
Can you provide the key names to select the header logo. I want to change it based on language. The document says to create a xml file with the theme key names.

This shows my guess, but not working.
<wpml-config>
<admin-texts>
<key name=’theme_mods_newspaper’>
<key name=’tds_logo_upload’ />
</key>
</admin-texts>
</wpml-config>

Can you let me know what they are?
thanks
