9.7.3 Child Theme no longer recognized, content totally cranky – without it's ok

As the title says, I installed the new version 9.7.3 (also updated all plugins – tagdiv), but noticed that my child theme doesn’t work properly anymore. I just edited functions.php and style.css and added some of my own functions to functions.php that I already removed and tested – no improvement. So my question is, what can I do in this case to make the child theme work properly again, like in version 9.7.2. Before 9.7.3 everything was fine. Funnily enough, the content is interpreted correctly when I use the main theme.

The code from the Page Builder is interpreted, but the arrangement and display is completely distorted or elements are not displayed or positioned correctly.

Many thanks in advance for the possible help!

Greetings

Hi,

You need to set the child theme that is in the theme package v9.7.3 and set in it the settings from the current child theme.

Thank you!

Ok, that would have been my next approach, but unfortunately I used up my 20 daily downloads due to a stupid technical incident. Somehow spun, could complete a download, but only install the theme file, not the additional ones. Maybe I could get an alternative download or just the required new child theme files? Today is not my day.

Thank you for your efforts!

Hi @Anna1510,

If you still have problems with this you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login. We will take a look. Include the link to this topic in the email.

I now have everything set up and an identical setting as for the files sent to me. The layout is reasonable again and all other functions are given, except for the picture gallery and the standard Post Template (Picture) I defined myself. This is no longer displayed correctly, but one that I did not specify at all. When I switch back to the Main Theme, this is recognized correctly. Slowly I despair here, before the update everything worked wonderfully, now I have the feeling that everything is out of joint. At the picture gallery I also linked to the media file, as I did at all other times. The error can be excluded. Switching to the Main Theme has no effect here, it doesn’t work there either.

What else could I try?

Best regards

Hi,

Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict, please deactivate all non theme plugins, clear all cache and try again.

If the problem is still there please provide me a link were I can take a closer inspection to this problem.

Thank you!

I always think it’s a bit stupid that everything is shifted to the user right away, even though one has already written that everything was great before and since update these errors exist, so it can’t really be due to a plugin error. I don’t want to sound ungrateful now, but there seem to be other customers who have reported the same problem. So is it possible to do more research about this and not unpack the “You’re to blame, we’re not” club right away? So far the updates have been quite problem-free, except for a few little things here and there, but lately the problems increase when I install an update. Maybe it’s me, but I just can’t find a problem. As a developer you can even be glad that people report bugs as actively as possible.

As I wrote before, the gallery (WordPress gallery (normal), tested in the Gutenberg editor with the Classic block and the normal Gutenberg gallery, tagdiv gallery works fine) works neither in the main theme (so not child) nor in the child, so I don’t know another solution, the media file is linked. The default Post Template in the settings can be set, but is also displayed correctly in the main theme (not Child), but as soon as you switch to the Child theme, the default template is always displayed. The sidebar is displayed properly, but before that the update reset or removed my widgets, so I had to redefine them. The rest of the page actually works fine, except for the problems, there is none left, until the auto-optimization may load the page a bit strange when script merge is activated. I disabled this option for the time being. And yes already tested whether it is also related to the other problems, unfortunately no change, sorry.

I’d like to switch back to 9.7.2, because I’m a little tired of testing, wasting my time and not finding a solution. Stupid that I don’t have the version anymore, I make really meticulous backups now before I decide to install a newspaper update.

Thanks for your efforts and I hope the matter clears up as soon as possible.

EDIT:

Okay, a little edit of mine.

#Report 1

I think there might be a connection with the General Modal Image option. I activated this and still the gallery doesn’t work with the Gutenberg editor. Previously this worked without problems (9.7.2). The image is not loaded and the image box only displays an error message. Both in the Child Theme and in the Main Theme this does not work. EDIT: I said that the Classic Block Gallery wouldn’t work, but it does, I checked it again. The Tagdiv Gallery, as well as the WordPress Gallery work in the Classic Block of the Gutenberg Editor.

#Report 2

The default post template defined by the user in the options is not recognized correctly in the child theme. I have set my posts so that they get their default post template from the panel settings. In the main theme this works fine, but as I said, in the child theme it doesn’t.

#Report 3

The Gutenberg Title Box has only one row by default, unless the title gets longer then this also jumps to the next row and expands down. This is probably an error in the CSS. (Can be checked when starting a new post!)

Can second report 1, using the classic editor. In regards to report 2, it is recognizing the theme – it is saying it is getting it from the theme panel.

About #Report 2 and @GiacomoLaw: Yes, the options are saved correctly and are displayed the same way. However, these are only considered in the main theme. This means if I change from the panel setting (FROM PANEL) to a completely different post template in the child theme in a post, no matter which template, the td-post-template-default will be displayed. So nothing changes. Even the set template-3 (FOR FROM PANEL), which I defined as default in the Panel Settings (Theme), is not displayed, but only the td-default. That means I can set as much as I want, the td-default will be shown every time, unless I switch back to the main theme, where my settings will be considered again and the template will be shown. It is really to milk mice.

So summarized: In the post settings the panel setting (FROM PANEL) for the post template is displayed defined by default. However, the default Post Template that I have set in the Theme Panel is not taken into account, but the td-default template is displayed, regardless of the template, unless I switch back to the main theme, then the Post Template set by the user is displayed correctly.

Best regards
