We just imported content from the Ning.com platform to WordPress and then added the Newspaper theme. All is working great except that the featured images (of posts) on the homepage (or any main category page) are showing up blank (see below image). We believe they are blank because the lead images we imported were not linked to larger images. Now if you click on the post, the first non-linked image appears in the blog. It just doesn’t get set as the featured image thumbnail on the homepage, etc.
Is there anyway to have the theme grab the first image automatically from the blog post and use it as the thumbnail preview? We have thousands of blog posts, so it needs to be something we do with code and not by hand. There is an auto-post thumbnail plugin that will set the first image as the thumbnail, but it also means it will duplicate the lead image in the article. Any help?

Unfortunately there is no option in the theme to grab the first image as a featured one. You can maybe use a plugin for that, but keep in mind that not all of them have been tested with our theme and some of them might cause problems.
