Previously I have updated my website from newspaper 8 to 10. Now I want to update from 10 to 11. Shall I update automatically via the theme panel or manually by uninstalling the newspaper theme and installing the fresh copy? As previously when I updated automatically my website crashed.

I recommend you to make a backup and update plugins and the theme via file transfer, so that you don’t face any error: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
When you update the theme to 11.3.1, make sure you have the latest version of the PHP, WordPress, theme and plugins. Check in the Newspaper -> Plugins and make sure the plugins are active. If you use default templates, then please install the Standard Pack plugin.

Also, If I use file transfer, do I have to manually add all my settings again on the website?

You can not update the theme from the theme panel, but you can save the settings from the theme panel and import/export them: https://forum.tagdiv.com/import-export-theme-settings/
But, if your settings are made in the TagDiv Composer, then these are not saving in that backup from theme panel.
You shouldn’t add the settings manually, but I recommend you to make a full backup before.
