I few month ago, I noticed that the settings panel for social networking had changed. For example, the number of facebook likes disappeared. The twitter figure remained. When I re-visited the documentation page (ref social counter settings), I realised that the screenshots in the demonstration was different from what I have in the theme panel. For example, in the documentation, I have several places to fill just to get the Facebook settings in. In my theme panel, all I have to do is insert the Facebook ID.
I uninstalled and re-installed the social counter plugin (version 3.1), to no avail.
I am using Newspaper 6.1
Has anyone experienced this before? How did you sort it out?

Hi,
These changes are due to the social networks changing over time. The social counter plugin does not work anymore in your version. You will have to update and set it up according to the new facebook rules. Pleas update your theme to the latest version and also uninstall and delete the social counter and visual composer and install the ones that come with the theme. Please follow these guides to update:

Things change overtime and you have to keep up with the changes. If you do not update your theme regularly you will not benefit from the improvements and you will have issues as wordpress gets changed, social networks change and so on. Things will start to not work anymore if you do not update the theme.

Many thanks for your feedback. I have updated the theme, re-installed the plugins as advised. Thank you so much for your help.
I however still have issues setting with the social counter: Within Newspaper theme panel, under social networks (Facebook), I still can only see space to insert the ID of the facebook page. However, I can see the others (App ID, and Secret Key) within the Social Counter Widget. I have already created the App ID (through wwww.developers.facebook.com) and inserted them in the spaces. However, once I click on “Get Access token” I only get a ‘please wait’ message which remains there for hours. Ultimately, no access token is generated.
So basically, I have two issues; within theme panel and the widget. And my website remains with no link to my ts facebook page.

Please send us wp-admin via email at contact@tagdiv.com so we can login to your site and check the social counter. We will need to deactivate your plugins in order to investigate though so if your site is live, it will display without them for a few moments until we inspect it. In the case of @AfriPost the facebook ID was not added correctly and there were a few plugins that were not compatible with our theme. If you have issues with the social counter yourself, please make sure you update your theme to the latest version (newspaper 7.01) and make sure you update the social coiunter to version 4.0 by removing your current version and installing it again from the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/tGhIPrujhMh
