Theme Demo – Preventing loss of new content/images/menus

I’m reposting a message from the instructions above…

“Notice: The demo can be fully uninstalled and the system will attempt to rollback to your previous state. Any content, menus and attachment created by the demo are removable via the uninstall button.”

The second sentence has me confused. I don’t want to use the content e.g. articles, pictures, menu (subjects listed in menu) rather would like to use the infrastructure of the theme demo. If i add new articles with images to replace the “demos” articles will the new article and images also be potentially be lost at some point? If so how do I prevent such a loss of new content?

What about changing the menu? Again I want to use the infrastructure in place to either modify the demos menu or do what else? Add new items to the menu and delete the demos menu?

I’m really not understanding the statement about possibly losing content by using the demo theme, totally confusing. I’m here to ask what is the best way to insure the new content we create in our new website using the Newspaper 12 theme remains safe from loss.

For additional data points. We are using WordPress Hosting by GoDaddy so nightly backups will occur automatically. We have not installed the plugin it yet but we subscribe to HubSpot and plan to install said plugin as soon as our site is up. I don’t know if this helps but if it can help get us an answer or somehow help someone else later on with a similar question though it was worth mentioning.

Hello @tellesio!

If you install a demo with content, then you will lose the previous content and not your articles.
You have the possibility of installing a demo without content, and the articles will remain on your end. It will overwrite only the previous design.
If you want only a section or a template from another demo, then you have the possibility of installing only that template or section from the Cloud Library.

Thank you!

Bettina,

I’m not a technical person. I’m a strong user of systems and platforms but I have limitations. Building businesses through marketing and sales are my strengths.

I’m eager to get this new website ready for launch but the statement about content loss is concerning. Particularly since this website will be a daily newspaper focused on small business news and How-To-Articles and the site will produce a tremendous amount of content. With this said I am still having an issue understanding what you mean…

“install a demo with content, then you will lose the previous content and not your articles”.

What previous content, is this demo articles and the images? I am starting anew with no previous website, a brand new domain, and there’s been no previous content. The demo I’ve installed and intend on using is “Talk Town”.

I don’t intend to use the demo content, other than a reference to begin building my site; a visual aid. I intend to recategorize the menu items, recategorize the catagories e.g. lifestyle, weather, etc., and create new articles with new images. Once I’ve populated the website with my own content my plan was to just delete the articles the came with the demo.

My concern, based on the notice in the instructions and now your quoted comment above, is that by “using the demo” content the changes I would make to the menu, and the new content I create and add to the website could be erased upon an uninstall.

If I make changes to the demo menu, can I make these changes without risk of loss sometime later through an uninstall?

And by creating new content as described in the preceding paragraphs, are the added new content and images going to be at jeopardy of loss?

As previously mentioned the website will be backed up daily.

Please try to be more precise in your reply. I appreciate your assistance with this matter. Thank you

Hello @tellesio!

Ok. I will try to explain again. Also, you can test everything on a staging site: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/.
Activate the theme in your staging install with the same purchase code: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newspaper-6-how-to-activate-the-theme/
Before installing any demo from the theme, maybe you have some posts and images (this is what I mean by your content). After installing a demo with content, you will get the demo’s content and your initial content. In case you want to change the demo with another one and install a new demo with content, then the content from the previous demo will be overwritten, and you will get the current demo’s content and your initial content.
If you install a demo without content, then you will get the design of the demo with your content. So, you do not have to worry if you install the demo without content.
Check this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-demos/

I hope it is more understandable now!

Thank you!
