Hi,
I have a web site with Newspaper 7.6 (wordpress 4.9.4) and I would liked to know if I can update to Newspaper 8 easily, like minor update. I go to theme, change active theme, remove old Newspaper version, then upload new newspaper version (zip) and made that new version active again and everything’s fine.
Can I do that and won’t loose any specific params ?

That is quite an old theme version, much has changed in the theme since then. However you can make the update and there should be no problem. Follow this guide

Update by FTP if possible, this is the most recommended method in the matter. After the update deactivate the tagDiv composer, this composer may cause issues to pages built with Visual composer. It will be activated by default when the theme is installed or updated.
The tagDiv composer is considered the main theme page builder now, Visual composer will still be included in the package and updated along theme updates

Thanks, I did what you recommended and it worked fine except for social counters It seems to be not available with Visual Composer in pages or widgets ?
Am I right ? Is there a turn around ?

That is unusual, it should be available, the counter is meant to appear in both composers

Try deactivating the social counter plugin and reinstall it. Also check the theme system status and make sure there are enough resources

I reinstalled the plugin (social counter 4.2) but still nothing appeared in blocks or widgets. My parameters are ok and green in system status.
I will try to move my pages to tagdiv composer but I guess it’s a long work ?
Are blocks using same names and options ?
It seems there is an issue with the social counter. It will not appear as a widget or as an element in Visual composer unless the tagDiv composer is active. A solution would be to use the previous social counter plugin version (provided in 8.6)

We are very sorry for this inconvenience. All these issues are currently investigated, a theme update will be released as soon as possible.
If you want to switch to the tagDiv composer, you will have to recreate all pages with it. So the amount of work will be proportional to how many pages your website has. After you get some practice with the composer, it will get easier and easier to use

I checked tagDiv composer and it seems that some elements are missing like button or call to actions ? is it normal ?
Those elements will only be available when the multi-purpose plugin is active. This plugin will also add more row layouts and options in the theme panel. Install and activate the multi-purpose plugin and they will appear

ok thanks, I installed multi-purpose. WP widgets like Tags cloud are not available ?
And after installing multi-purpose, I noticed that a few images were added to my medias library that can’t be deleted ? I delete them from dashboard, they come back, I tried through ftp same, is there a way to delete them ?

The tag cloud widget is available, it is provided by default WordPress

Those images are default placeholders for multi-purpose elements, they will not cause any problems. Example
