We struggled just the same issue, hired an optimizer even, but nothing changed till we changed on a faster servers:

https://aristake.com (on the a2, their https://www.a2hosting.com/wordpress-hosting?aid=ccfd7e2a&bid=1addd0a4 third plan – important, they got the fastest servers there)

compare with this:

And I don’t even send the link on Hostgator – a nightmare

BUT check here:

it loads constantly the main page. Though it’s the same everything except for the hosting

great, thanks, though I’ve tried that same path before and it didn’t work, but who would believe. Now, could you please also tell about the AddThis support? Is it possible to use another data for Popular Posts to be filtered?
