I’m having an issue similar to the one you address. After updating to Newspaper 10, my customizations to the loop-single-x.php files were overwritten. I was able to get my customizations back by uploading my customized loop-single-x.php files to wp-content/plugins/td-standard-pack/Newspaper/parts/single/, but this is not a best practice.

Best practice, of course, is to upload to a child theme as you indicate. Where exactly in the child theme should I upload the loop-single-x.php files?

You got it! There was some incompatible code in the category.php template file in the child theme.

Thanks! Can you point me to documentation to how to set up the child themes in Newspaper 9.6? I assume this is not the same as the standard WP method. I couldn’t find that documentation easily.

FYI, I’m running the child theme using the standard WP method––creating a new folder for the theme called Newspaper-child, then going through the steps outlined in my original post.

OK. Thanks. Where in the database is a specific post’s template specified?

UPDATE: All of the panels in the Theme Panel are hanging––not just the Custom CSS panel. The spinner spins ad infinitum.

Thanks for the reply. I did exactly as you indicated and I am still getting the second most recent post, not the most recent. I have confirmed this behavior by creating multiple new featured posts, and it’s always the second most recent that displays.
