Thanks, Bettina.

My mistake was creating a new page instead of a new article. So I will create an article and then assign it a category.

Thanks Bettina.

Thanks, Bettina.

I think I will use Google Sheets in future.

Have a great day.

After opening a table block on a blank post (“Auto Draft”), I clicked on the white background exactly as you said. But it opened without any formatting. Just a big compressed mass of data. According to the labels at the bottom of the page it was in the paragraph mode. “Post>Paragraph”

It is not resolving into a table form. It is not working according to your instructions. I will send you a screenshot via email if you like.

Btw, this is a known issue with some WordPress themes as data does not get formatted into a table but instead is formatted into a paragraph.

AFter searching online, I found someone who wrote that first pasting the Excel data into Google Sheets and then recopying the Google spreadsheet data and THEN pasting it into the block editor worked. And it worked for me too.

Of course, I would prefer to skip this Google third step if possible. Do you know why it only works with Google Sheets?

Sorry, I don’t understand where to click. Which element do you mean?

Could you explain the sequence once again, please?

Thank you for your continuing support, Bettina.

OK I followed your instructions.

1) I copied my Excel data.
2) I opened block editor and clicked the blue “create table” button
3) when it opened, I pasted the data.
4) the data is now all mixed up without any formatting.

What should I do now?

On an unrelated matter, can you tell me if Newspaper supports “embed scripts” with Javascript tags? These apparently render much faster than iframes.

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet created a table using copied and pasted Excel data. This is harder than I thought.

After I open a new table in the block editor, the problem is where does the copied Excel data go? I tried pasting it to the top left hand cell in the table, and it only filled that cell with a very compressed and lengthy string of data. All other cells were empty. My table is comprised of 8 columns and 37 rows.

Is it possible to easily import Excel spreadsheet data into a WordPress table or do I need a special plug-in?

Chris

Thank you Bettina. My post listing is better now.

And thanks for the tip about the Classic editor. Actually what I did was to change its setting so I can change editors between block and classic. Before it was set to classic only.

I think I’ve finally got it now.

I’m grateful for your help. Have a great day! 🙂

Actually, I’m not sure which editor I’m using. My editor looks a lot like the Classic editor but there is no “table” button in my toolbar.

But I know the Block editor isn’t working. I wonder if it’s been disabled somehow. I’ve heard this can happen for various reasons.

Just FYI, I realize that I have only been using the Classic editor. I think I don’t have the Block editor installed. Oh no!

Thank you for your help on this. I really appreciate it.

But when I click on the edit button, I go to the post editor page. I do not go to the Gutenberg block editor. Is it possible I don’t have it installed yet?

Also when I go to the list of posts, all my post titles are displayed vertically, like this:

S
A
M
P
L
E
T
I
T
L
E
O
C
T
O
B
E
R
2
0
2
4
E
D
I
T

It’s very strange!

OK I’ll try that. Thanks. But how does the Gutenberg editor know where to put the table within my post?

My problem is that I don’t see the Gutenberg editor in my post page. Is this something I have to do in the tagdiv editor?

According to the video, tables made with block editor will not work with Excel or csv data. That’s a problem since I am trying to import Excel data to my website. Do you know of the best way I can do this? I have a lot of data (7 columns, 35 rows). I hope I don’t have to add it all manually. That will take forever!

I’ll check it out and let you know. 🙂

Thank you, Bettina! You’re fantastic.

But if I add a table with the block editor, how does it work with a post I have already created? I’m confused about this.

Hi Bettina,

No, I did not build the table in Gutenberg. Can you provide a link that explains how to build tables in Gutenberg? Thank you!

If I understand you correctly, do I need to enter the html code twice — once in desktop version and then also in the mobile version of the website?

Regards.

FYI I did try to edit the html as one of your developers previously suggested:

<div style=”overflow-x:auto;”>
<table>

</table>

But it didn’t effect any change to the appearance.

Here is my website post with the table. Maybe one of the problems is I copied and pasted the table from Excel. I did it that way because I didn’t see any “table” option in the editing menu for the new post.

OK I understand now. The Opt-in Builder was not installed for some reason. I got a developer to fix it. An easy fix if you know what to look for.

Have a great day!

I don’t understand. Please elaborate, if possible.

Just FYI, I did try to use the Newspaper Time Machine and revert back to 12.6.1 but it didn’t change anything. The navigation menu is still showing all of its style code.

Thanks again for your suggestions. I ended up just using the Archive “dropdown” option. I didn’t see that before actually. But it’s the perfect solution when you have 15 years of posts! 🙂 It doesn’t take up any space on the sidebar.

Have a great day.

Thank you!

Can you show me how to navigate to that Archives List page?

I’m not sure where it is.

Thanks.

Thank you. However, my theme page doesn’t match the one illustrated in your link. I have no “activate theme” tab. I guess it’s already been activated.

Under the My license tab, I see an error message saying “no domains associated with this license key.”

How can I fix this?

Thanks
Chris

Thanks so much! It worked.

Thank you, Anamaria! That’s very helpful. I don’t know why I didn’t see that before.

Another question I have about the footer involves the social media icons. How can I link those so they take the user to the website Twitter and Facebook pages? Currently, there is only a “#” in the those fields. I tried adding the URLs but I get a 404 page because the links include my website URL. If I only want to link to the website Twitter page, how do I do that?

Thanks again.
Have a great day.
