Try checking your database. It’s not the theme. I thought it was the theme before checking my database.
Cpanel > phpmyadmin. I would check the ‘options’ table to see if any plugin is causing a bloated database.

Not to mention, code hacks are needed to get the avatars to match up

I think this is debatable. My newspaper theme has 1) Two avatars for no reason and 2) Activity page missing sidebar and footer. Custom modifications are all I’ve been doing and researching.

The ACTIVITY PAGE is the *ONLY* page that doesn’t work on buddypress (removes sidebar, footer, etc). What kind’ve schizophrenic crap is that?

The fact that either Buddypress or Newspaper theme still hasn’t updated this bug(?) is beyond me. When I bought this theme, the belief was it was compatible with buddypress. It’s been anything but. Working on this for like a week. Either I’m retarded, or it’s not user-friendly enough. Who knows.

Thank you for the response. Can you be more specific on what needs to happen. Is it a simple copy and paste job? I don’t understand how the #1 theme and a top 5 plugin aren’t compatible in this area, or there’s no ready made work-around. I can’t be the first guy to get annoyed at this. I’ve been at this ONE hang-up for days, and haven’t found a real solution, while my competitor website is kicking my A because he has buddypress and I don’t. Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly how is this issue not even resolved? Buddypress are lazy idiots or what? I’ve seen this question 1000 times all over the internet, yet the solutions are few if any. Why are there TWO avatars? I think maybe for future updates Newspaper theme should look into making working with BuddyPress more seamless. Or I think Buddypress should update their software. Why on earth would any developer think having TWO admin bars and TWO avatar areas improve UX? They should be combined. Buddypress is a top 5 plugin, and yet this is a major oversight.

That code worked for me, it took me to the buddypress profile, but parts of site template went missing (sidebar, footer, etc)

Check your database (try options table first) in cpanel > phpmyadmin. I used to think it was the newspaper theme that was slow, but it turned out it was rows and rows of database. I think it was the EWWW image plugin thing. Make sure some crappy plugins aren’t bloating your database, even after “uninstalling” them.

I was able to get the links pointed to the ultimate member pages by modifying the core login and register pages.

Same here. I’m using Ultimate Member plugin for registration/login, so the animation is what I need removed. I want to keep the avatar, signup, and login blocks, just not the animation that prompts to signup. Been digging around in the files, which parts should be commented out? Desktop is fine, I was able to change that, but mobile even when I add the ultimate member links to /wp-content/themes/Newspaper/mobile/parts.login.php, it still shows the animation in between and when hitting the back button.

I really don’t get why this theme is so slow for my site. I’m talking aol dialup slow, on a live med/high traffic site. There’s nothing on my site that’s really out of the ordinary. I optimize my images, did the cache, have many of the same plugins as my old theme, have the minimum requirements for the theme, etc.

So last question — could it be because I installed it as the demo WITH the content (later deleting the content). Should I try reinstalling it with no demo content? Thanks.

Thanks for info. I checked my settings and upgraded to the theme’s rec’m PHP version, but tried to with MySQL (I have “MySQL 5.0.90-community-log”) but my host said I needed to upgrade to get a higher mysql version. Could this be that significant of speed hit – I have minimum required MySQL but not rec’m. This sucks because right now I’m getting a huge traffic spike but high bounce rate because it’s a super slow site. Idk what to do. I love the look of the site, but it’s not performing like the demo.
