Installed the new update. Was able to update plugins from within WordPress. However, now it takes up to 40 seconds for the Home Page to open.

I like how Newspaper organizes the material on my website, using the magazine template. But I am disgusted at all the hours & hours I’ve spent to customize it — for nothing.

As is, Newspaper is an unusable theme. And I can NOT say that I’m impressed with TagDiv support.

Talked to WordPress Support, again. This is what they did, in their words:

1. deactivated all the plugins, but the site still loads slow.
2. Theme conflicts with the page optimize plugin.
3. Switching to a different theme speeded the site load.

Also, we clear the site’s cache, and that didn’t help either.

They also said the Newspaper theme isn’t compatible with their optimization plugin. When I have it activated, it causes the Newspaper menu to malfunction.

I ask you, if TagDev develops WordPress themes, how is it they don’t work well with premium WordPress hosting?

I’m chatting with WordPress Support right now (again). I’ve got that good WP Business hosting plan — everything is well-powered and optimized. I’ll post here with any solutions that work. Is your site better? If so, how did you fix it?

No. WordPress support told me that the Newspaper front page had experienced a fatal error. They were the ones to figure out that changing the front page made the site operable. This is not a problem to be solved by page speed tweeking.

Some friendly feedback…

Maybe Newspaper theme COULD support lazy loading for Google Ads. A link for you to review: https://developers.google.com/doubleclick-gpt/samples/lazy-loading

Pretty please? Particularly for “auto ads.”

Here is an article on how to set up lazy load for Adsense UNITS (not auto ads): https://www.gulshankumar.net/setup-lazy-loading-google-adsense-ad-units/#close – I haven’t tried it yet. I guess this is the method most people use.

BTW, I looked at the Flying Scripts plugin. It makes no mention of using it for lazy loading Google Ads.

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the Newspaper theme. It seems like there are more views on a wider range of articles. It’s been VERY fast, until I began trying Google Ads (which will be resolved, one way or another).

Thanks for your support!

Thanks, that solved the problem for the menu, megamenu, search field! I host on the WordPress Pro plan, and the conflicting plug was one they had installed: “Page Optimize.” In case that helps anyone else.

You must have sent me some brilliance… I fixed the problem, of certain blocks not updating, by checking the “offset posts” settings. Just needed to set those to “0.”

Problems resolved. Thanks!

I noticed that my API key had table HTML attached to it. I could not see this in the Newspaper OWM API key field. But I happened to paste my copied API key into a WordPress note plugin with an editor, and saw it there. Once I removed the HTML and copied ONLY the API key, it worked immediately in the Newspaper weather widget.

Solved. The problem was that I had failed to activate the plugins that accompany “Newspaper.” Once I did that, I was able to activate the theme with my purchase code and the theme panel appeared.
