We don’t have any lazy load plug-ins. I disabled the lazy load in the Newspaper theme settings, but the site is still loading very slowly. Other suggestions?

Looks like it was Autoptimize. Is that a known conflict? Is there something I could change in the Autoptimize settings? Thanks!

Strange thing is that it is working while logged in but does not work while logged out.

Same problem here!

Video capture

The header menu just stopped showing secondary items, which sucks because the top level links have no pointer events. Totally dead navigation, except for the one item that has no sub-items. This happened spontaneously and not sure when it started.
Extremely debilitating. If you don’t see this when you check the site, it’s because we’ve replaced it with a flat navigational bar.

Here’s the link to the page, which is one of several that have this problem. Maybe all of them!

Yeah, this was frustrating to notice – four weeks after I updated to Newspaper X – that all the non-stock widgets went inactive from the 10+ widgets we use on waterdesk.org. I didn’t notice because *some* of the widgets remained. Is there a better UI method to restore the widgets than dragging them 18-24″ from the bottom of the screen to the top? I don’t see a dropdown inside the widget to assign it the way the stock widgets do. It’s like moving grains of sand with tweezers!

Calin-

You are a magician! Yes, it worked perfectly. I can’t believe it was so easy to implement. Thank you so much!

Yes, ideally I’d like to integrate the scrolling graphic into the WordPress page itself, so that the feature story can exist in our CMS and have all the promotion one would expect within the site – plus I don’t want to recreate the whole site design in a static page! I know that many news organizations create static versions of their designs and host them at urls like “projects.domain.com” but it’s not worth the hassle for us.

I was hoping I could find out from you what elements are at z-index 0 and if it were possible to use CSS to push them back somewhat, like -999, or even -10.

Thanks so much.

That’s super helpful, thanks! It looks like we were both loading it, so when I added it as an inline js my code started winning the race. Now the sticky video functionality doesn’t work but mine is more important. Thank you so much for the additional information.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, the video works, but I’m unable to access it programmatically with the IFrame API. My question is how might I disable the new video support JS that came with the Newspaper X theme. It seems to be using embedly or some other video library like video.js to enable the sticky video and other behaviors. The event listeners for that are blocking out my listeners for youtube events.

To understand how it should work, I’d love it if you could look at this link and click on one of the chapter descriptions below the video. The video will play and queue to a time stamp.
