Just as another follow-up, It seems that the issue might be arising from when I upload the images to WordPress. Most of the time after the image upload reaches 100%, that’s all it does, and the image is put into my media library, but even in the library, no thumb shows up. Just the default placeholder. However when I use the image in a post or as one of the larger thumbnails, it works fine, but it won’t show up as a small thumbnail.

The images that do seem to work at all thumbnail sizes are the ones that successfully “crunch” after the image upload. These images have thumbnails visible in the media library and at all other sizes around the site. The problem is that this doesn’t happen most of the time. Most of the time the crunching step is skipped or does not initiate. This seems like a WordPress problem and not a tagDiv problem, but I just thought I’d follow up.

Thanks! Yeah, I was able to get most them working. Sometimes it seems to work after uploading an image, and sometimes it doesn’t. I haven’t fixed the issue, but I just brute-forced through it and most of them are working now.

Okay, it went through all of the images and it didn’t seem to fix the problem. However, most of the resizes were errors. Only 261 out of the 774 images on the site were successfully resized. Still can’t see many of the thumbnails from new posts. Almost all of the Googling and forum searching I’ve done on this recommends using the regenerate thumbnails plugin, so I’m sort of out of ideas. Any further suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. I’m giving this a go, but it looks like it’s going to take 5-6 hours to run through everything and it seems to crash the browser from time to time. We have a lot of images on our site and the backend is just a tangled mess from having so many people work on it over the years (we’re a school publication and bring in a new student every fall to manage the website – recipe for disaster, I know). If this doesn’t work and the thumbnails still don’t show up, is there another step to take?

I should also mention that I’m uploading jpegs, never bigger than a few hundred K, and I am not doing anything differently (that I can tell) from the posts that do properly display the thumbnail. Sometimes it works fine sometimes it doesn’t.

Great, I’ll give this stuff a try, thanks!

Hey, thanks for the reply. As far as I know, everything is updated. I’m running WordPress 4.6.1, Newspaper 6.5.1, and all of my plugins are updated, EXCEPT for possibly the Visual Composer, which is running version 4.7.4.

I’m not entirely sure where to download update packages for the Visual Composer. The plugin came packaged with Newspaper, so what’s the best way to get the update package without paying for the plugin again?

Also, just out of curiosity, why is activating the social media counter crucial in getting the Visual Composer working properly? When I try to download the social media counter from the plugins page under the Newspaper menu heading, I get a “plugin does not have a valid header” error.

Sorry for all my inquiries, I’m relatively new at this and, like I said, I inherited this site so I’ve been trying to work backwards and figure out how everything works.

Thanks again!

Hey, thanks so much for your responses. I really appreciate it!

While we’re on this topic, if a previous web editor with much more experience than me has gone in and altered the .php of the theme, it seems like updating the theme will get rid of those changes and change or break currently functioning parts of the site, right? I know at least one previous web editor has done this.

Also, have you heard anything about how well the Aesop Story Engine plugin works with Newspaper?

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply!

I disabled all the plugins except visual composer and there is no modified CSS code — The problem persists.

I pulled the site out of maintenance mode so that you can take a look.
