Christopher is a long time WordPress user. Anything else you need to know is private ;-) I *do not* work for TagDiv, but I've been using their themes since late 2013.

Works fine with 8.1x – use that if possible.

7.4 is end of life, and should not be used even though the latest microupdate did fix the major security issue.

8.0x was transitional. So, really just use 8.1 as best option.

But note, if you have any reallllyyy ooooold third party plugins, they might not work with 8x.

Making footer full width is easy with CSS, but entire layout full width is near impossible. You’d need to use Newspaper theme.

Thanks 🙂 Will give this a try next week.
In oooold days we’d simply put a new single_99.php file in the root of the theme and that would overwrite loading theme for that category. Didn’t think that would work due to dependent file paths in the tagdiv templates.

So, code to repurpose template in correct folder should work. Woo!

okay, in rethinking this;
makes more sense for me to simply modify a template I’m not using, say single_template_7.

So, question:
if I have single_template_2 set as “site wide,” how would I set template 7 to a single post category, for posts not for category indexes?

Thanks. Hope that made sense. I’m a bit rusty on the mods for Newsmag.

Basically trying to have one content category use different template from rest of posts.

Hi, don’t need to edit the main file, need to clone it to assign to a specific category (e.g., say category 99), presuming the classic method of naming a template file by the category number, or adding a hook to do that in functions? E.g., adding a new template option for posts like ‘post-wide.php’ and then function to add that as new template drop down.

Probably I need to make single_template_99.php and loop-single-99.php then register those as a function.

Issue not impacting our sites at all; it’s just a ‘warning’ not a ‘you must update or it will break.’

No issues with Newsmag here, and no malware. So, good to double check your site dbase in full to check all tables and scrub.

works better to download zip to hard drive then install via wordpress panel

DUmb question: is the wp-composer plugin installed and active?
(I don’t work here.)

simchris

You are trying to upload the ‘all files’ package vs the ‘just the theme’ package. Super common issue. Unpack the zip, and the theme zip is inside, along with docs and plugins 🙂

Not for me. AIO has different settings for meta data, so you need to clone them, adjust them, or port them from Yoast to maintain the same meta data. Easy enough to look at your ‘page source’ to see what is actually there using AIO. If AIO is putting “giant puppies” then that is what Google will use. If Yoast was putting “big giant puppoes” then of course things will be different. Check your meta data.

Do a search on here for ‘malware’ to find the remediation steps for those who got infected via theme or other plugin vulnerability (since patched). I don’t work here.

Typically, you need to simplify your layouts – e.g., use maybe 2 sidebar modules, home page maybe 4 modules; try without mega menu, try without ‘related posts’ bottom of each story, etc.

Also try increasing your memory via host settings and also the wp-config file.

Remember you may also need to set memory limit at server/hosting settings in addition to the wp config file.

I don’t work here; but only way to do that is to ‘restore’ from back up you should have done prior to making any changes. If your hosting provider does backups, they might have older backup if very recent (like “yesterday”). You can try reinstalling original theme to see if any of the theme datatables are still there.

It can take several hours for adsense ads to start serving after you have validated/confirmed site with your adsense account.

I thought they fixed that with the latest update?

Since AMP has been retired by Google in 2023, ideally just stop using AMP at all, as Google will eventually turn that off, and at this point entirely, um, pointless. 🙂

I think there is a free plugin to remove unused photos.
Some folks just delete them and then use ‘regenerate thumbnails’ — however that annoying addition from WordPress to add -1 to every file name might cock that up.

If you do FULL BACKUP then try something like that, you can always restore your images if one effort not successful how you intended.

Did you try blocking access to:
/wp-json/tdw/save_css

same way you’d block access to anything else not public on the site, via root or folder htaccess

Did you also update the memory limit in the wp-config file?

Also be aware sometimes they just update the version number for some templates without actually updating the template, in order to keep things in sync for their own internal purposes. Often if you compare the old/new template versions in their own system, there is no change. So, a quick fix can be simply changing the version number in the TD template if the notice bothers you. NOt saying this is solution, just something we’ve done over here in past with custom templates. 🙂
