Weird. WordPress search shouldnt show stuff from home page.

Wordpress has kind of crappy search results, and there some plugins to help with that you might look at.

As with all plugins, you update it by removing old version from plugins folder on your site and uploading the new version.

Booster plugin is optional. See the theme docs on the installation process. It is a plugin, so unless installed it wont work.

Nope. This is a narrow layout fixed responsive layout, while newspaper is the wide responsive layout.

Ironically, we’ve decided this year to switch out Disqus and go back to normal WP comments to speed up page load and for privacy issues.

I just updated my theme to 1.4, and I am going to turn on the Disqus so you can test it right now, to see if it’s “just you” …

let me know, so I can then disable it.

I don’t think any theme developers are going to worry about support for Safari for Windows at this point as it’s dead and buried, unfortunately. I don’t think it’s even been patched for all the various security issues like SSL3, etc.

ideally some kind of user agent should pop up a message as is done with IE6, saying “You’re browser is out of date and insecure and was abandoned in 2012 – please instead use a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox”

I was actually trying to figure out how to do that using the normal snippet often used for IE6/7 users ….

Anyway. I’m now going to update my site to 1.4 and see what blows up 🙂

Well… that’s a WordPress issue, not a theme issue.

So you might do a Google search for how to customize WP searches, or maybe there is a plugin to not show pages in search results.

That might be issue … I always have problems with Child Themes.

And also a trick to update, as you have to do some funky thing I forget, where you have to disable both when updating, and look at changelog for child theme update as with young themes the CHILD THEME MIGHT HAVE CHANGED (!). Which kind of defeats the purpose, I know; but that’s the dealio with that.

I don’t use child themes anymore due to two issues: 1) weird issues with plugins and other things nobody can ever figure out; 2) it’s a CSS redirect, which Google doesn’t like, so we don’t like. 🙂

On your post page I see two “access is denied” errors, which look related to your social media tools for the tweet button widget.

Never mind on the homepage issue; looks like you are still playing with that, as it’s a real mess at the moment (sorry).

If the WordPress admin bar disappeared you likely have a problem with your WordPress install. You should probably do a clean install and make sure your site works properly with the default theme first, make sure you delete any plugins you don’t actually use; especially OLD versions of revolution slider which can be hacked, etc. Delete any oooold themes you installed but no longer use, etc.

Your site appears to be “working” …
but your home page looks like it has a whole bunch of incomplete, or broken modules.

You may want to start with the “blank” home page layout and drag in your own modules to start, so you don’t have all the empty, unfinished or unpopulated things which might be contributing to any errors you’re seeing.

We only use the built in WP editing tools, which is why I use the non breaking space to add double line breaks. WP strips out multiple returns otherwise and has done for years now.

I think that using the br on multiple lines only works inside of a p tag “normally.”

For a plugin you’re using – you may wish to visit the support page for that on the WordPress.org site, where the plugin dev might be able to provide support, as it’s not a theme function.

You can set this option in the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin; where it allows you to not have your pages found in your sitemap for Google; and also set the meta data to “noindex”

Chrome is a superb replacement. I hate Firefox since two of our machines got hacked using that and Avast (neither of which we’ll ever use again!).

Safari on Windows was always a bit ‘half baked’ – kind of like early versions of Chrome (oh, say, versions 1 through 20).

Chrome has become a very good browser, in my opinion. And it’s awesome being able to use it on the iPad to second guess what folks on Android tablets might be seeing.

I still use IE11 as my daily driver on Win7/64 just because I want to see what the “average joe” is seeing and not the “web elite.”

I’m still amazed the TagDiv themes work on oooold stuff, though. I tested the sites on WinXP (virtual machine) with old IE and Firefox, and they still worked. Really surprised. This was few months ago and pre WP 4.1 and latest theme versions, but didn’t expect that.

I do know android has had a lot of problems with Disqus over the past couple of years.

Remember that block is loading via JavaScript in a div at bottom of theme. The theme doesn’t load that or apply a ‘hide’ style class to that, it comes entirely from Disqus.

Only CSS for Disqus in theme I know of is the margin hack I posted couple days after theme launch which was rolled into v1.2 I believe, so that it wouldn’t touch the borders.

You are correct, the Disqus comments are not loading on your site on my iPhone 6 in portrait mode. Might be due to having ad banner at bottom of story, or the social links plugin on the post page (I only put mine on home page to not slow down the post for PageSpeed). I have one header ad and two sidebar ads. But I’m also seeing some errors on your home page with the grid, where one image shows twice and then blank boxes — so I see Dixie Bell story twice, then four blank grey boxes. Both portrait and landscape mode.

Might be a plugin or widget to do that, where you could put the shortcode into a box in the page builder for the home page.

We used to use a ‘featured video’ widget for our old home page, and we just added any post with featured video to a category ‘featured video’ – in that situation we had to put the YouTube video code into a data field on each post; which I guess is the same way this theme works for a video post.

So, presumably maybe the featured video widget could be used on home page in custom sidebar for home page?

What problem are you having with your featured slider?

I’m not having these issues on my MacBook Pro /Yosemite, Mac Pro tower, iPhone 6, or iPad Air v1 iOS8, as I test all my sites regularly in:

MacOS Safari (current OS/Yosemite and last version OS/Mavericks)
*tested on Apple Cinema Display 24-inch, Apple Cinema Display 27-inch, and MacBook Pro HD (pre retina)
MacOS Chrome – on Yosemite

Win7/64 IE11 – and Chrome
Win8.1 IE11/whatever
iOS8/iPad Air retina – Safari and Chrome; and RoboForm browser (works more like desktop)
iOS8/iPhone 6 (not plus) – Safari

I always report any weirdness to the dev folk.

Not having that issue.

Although often in WordPress the way to create “double line breaks” has been to add a nonbreaking space on its own line.

The code function here won’t let me type a non breaking space, which is odd.

without the space after the &.

Seems to be working now.
Also did search for MX4 and got the one result.

You can set layout for search results page in the theme settings panel.

Well, you still need to build your home page if it’s a new blank website.

Look at the ‘hello world’ post page to see if the styles have applied; at least that’s how it works for me.

Are you also clearing server side cache if you’re on a hosting provider that turns that on for your WordPress install for you (if you’re using a WP specialist host), and also if using CDN you need to release/update/expire stuff for the new CSS to load.

a) be sure not to test this with child theme
b) be sure to test this on real web server, not local install
