I think tagdiv should release patch for Newspaper 9.6.1 users. Because a lot of users, include me, use old version 9.6.1 because in 9.7.* cannot save current customization from child theme.

Luckily I’m trying it on Wamp and not in my site, because the new update (9.7.2) is not working for me. First I tried to keep my child-theme (my site has multiple essential customizations), the same error happened. So I activated the main theme, disabled all plugins except for tagDiv Cloud and Composer. Same thing.

The errors are:

Warning: require_once(header/ads.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\wamp32\www\mysite\wp-content\plugins\td-composer\legacy\Newspaper\parts\header\header-style-4.php on line 27

and

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘header/ads.php’ (include_path=’.;C:\php\pear’) in C:\wamp32\www\mysite\wp-content\plugins\td-composer\legacy\Newspaper\parts\header\header-style-4.php on line 27

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hi I have read this version 9.7.2 update
fix: AMP works properly when using child theme.
Does it mean that I can activate AMP with Costomizzazione on thema child but not the mobile plugin?
Thank you

Since the update my child theme no longer works correctly.
Post pages while showing on the Home page do not open as single post pages.
If I activate the Newspaper theme only then the loop works correctly.
Why is my child Theme not working?
How do I customise functions without the safety of a child theme?
How do I customise CSS safely outside the Theme without the safety of a child theme?

Hi,

@wspeed
Best to try by shortcode. Since theme update 9.7 the single template files have been moved in the tagDiv composer plugin – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
So the post template files could be modified there directly – http://prntscr.com/ngorqf but not in a child theme anymore, because this means they will have to be remade after each update.

By shortcode you could create/import a cloud post template, place a column text in it (in the location where you want the rating to appear) and enter the plugin shortcode in it
http://prntscr.com/ngoqk3
These are the cloud post templates created by us
https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Single.
You can also modify them after you import them, or create your own from blank
http://prntscr.com/ngosqb
This should work, you could give it a try.

Thanks

Hi,

The theme modules are now in the composer plugin, after the theme update 9.7 there were changes to the theme file location – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
So now the module files are in the tagDiv composer plugin – http://prntscr.com/ngl60o and the composer has to be activated at all times to maintain the same functionality as before.

If you made this modification to the module in a child theme, this will not work same as before. You could modify the module you want in the composer, but it will have to be made again after each update of the plugin.

However in the theme panel you can set a custom excerpt length for each module
http://prntscr.com/ngl7jv
So you could use the settings in the theme panel to set the length you want for module 16. Does this not work for you?

Thanks

Hi,

The changes from current update was not our decision to make, these was the envato requirements: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements
I’ve noted this as a request to our developers team to try to find a solution for child theme.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!

Hi,

Seems that all the category pages are not working, I browser the website for a while. When I returned to the homepage I now receive this error – http://prntscr.com/ngktsp

Looks like there is a Newspaper theme inside a Newspaper theme, that is not right. Please upload the theme directly in the themes folder only.
Also re-save the permalinks in WordPress settings, check the code found in the htaccess file (something could be blocking category pages), deactivate the child theme if you use one (worth trying), also investigate plugins.

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately in Newspaper v9.7 the child theme is working only for style and functions files from theme, the child theme will not work for mobile plugin, please check this article for more details -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/important-new-update-newspaper-9-7/

Thank you for your understanding!

After the 9.7 update our modified files in the child theme didn’t work anymore. One workaround would be the use of a cloud template. However, I really have no idea how to build a blank template. Documentation? The template should show the content of the post including the sidebar. I just want to add some elements like breadcrumbs, social media buttons, title etc. How can I achieve that?

We usually use the style 2 template for all posts. If I create an new template from the single_post_2 template, it does not show the sidebar nor the content of the post but some content from the start page. I can’t edit this part.

I hate frontend editors and anythink like it. So, please be patient. I rather use code than a page builder. Unfortunately, the template system does not support php editing.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I think that you are referring to these images -> https://www.screencast.com/t/KbYiXT0i -> https://www.screencast.com/t/zLDhdeA6Xpp if is so please clear all cache, deactivate all plugin cache that you have and install WP Super Cache plugin.

Also please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict, please deactivate all non theme plugins, also if you are using child theme or cache plugin, please deactivate them, clear all cache and try again.

Thank you!

@Simion C., I handled it with creating new template in cloud and add shortcode. Thanks for suggestion!

However MKJ is right, without child theme option editing current theme is almost impossible and at least very frustrating…

Hi guys,

So we had a modified child theme for Newsmag which was working great before Newsmag 4.8. We updated to the latest version and while everything works, various changes we had made to TD_Module are missing. The modules are all gone from Newsmag/includes/modules directory and only 3 remain.

How would we go about changing let’s say td_module_3 in the new system? For instance, we had set up our theme to show GIFs as featured image. Under the new system, they are automatically converted to a still image.

Here is our code:

<?php

class td_module_3 extends td_module {

function __construct($post, $module_atts = array()) {
//run the parrent constructor
parent::__construct($post, $module_atts);
}

function render() {
ob_start();

$title_length = $this->get_shortcode_att('m3_tl');
?>

<div class="<?php echo $this->get_module_classes();?>">
<div class="td-module-image">
<?php
$post = get_post();
$imgtype = wp_get_attachment_url( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID), 'thumbnail' );
$filetype = wp_check_filetype($imgtype);

if ($filetype ['ext'] == 'gif') {
echo get_the_post_thumbnail();
}
else

echo $this->get_image('td_300x194');

?>

Now there is no place to use this code since Module_3 file is gone. Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks

Panah

Hi,

First of all, please ensure that you have correctly updated your theme via FTP way according to our documentation from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Also, I have checked your above errors and I saw that you are using the Child Theme. After the 9.7 update, the child theme is limited to just a few files. This is a consequence of the recent modifications to the location of theme files, due to Envato requirements. There is an article about it here – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/

Thank you for understanding!

If I understand you correctly what you are saying is to reinstall the theme from scratch and hope that the child theme customization you made will work.

Unfortunately, you’re wrong. Modified files in the child theme will not work anymore for files that were moved to the plugin folder. You have to replace those files there. After every update, of course. This update is an epic failure.

Simion C.
tagDiv Staff

Yes, that is what a child theme is for indeed and what happens. Files modified in the child theme may have to be re-added in some situations, and the modifications re-done. That is the case when there are modifications to them in the main theme usually.

But the same method with a child theme as before is not possible since the files are now in a plugin. If a method will be found we will provide it, make guides etc. For the moment I can’t say what exactly will happen.

The cloud templates don’t have PHP or code files, they must be built/edited in the composer. You can work on them with the composer in the front end.

Child theme templates are for developers and not for rookies. I need a single line of additional php code in template no. 2. The frontend composer will not help at all. Or can it handle php code?

Sorry, but words really fail me here. And please add a giant disclaimer to the theme description that it can not use a child theme properly. Again, look at the Satollo newsletter plugin. You can override plugin template files putting theme in the extensions folder.

Hi,

Please check here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/VvnSYFDUUJ All the files were moved at the plugins section, as you can see.

Most of the theme files were moved into the tag div composer plugin as per the requirements of Envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/ Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css, as there are very few files left in the main theme as Envato, requires all functionality to be added through plugins.

Thank you for understanding!

Simion C.
tagDiv Staff

Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is not by choice unfortunately. The theme has to be in accordance with the new Envato rules so these modifications were necessary. Moving the files into the composer plugin has consequences for the child theme as well.

@MKJ
That is correct, sorry for the mistake. Maybe a solution will be found, we will make a guide if that will be the case. I can’t say what will happen at the moment, our developers will try to find the best solution.

@Tuudi
You can edit edit the cloud templates, not the default templates. These are cloud templates made by us, they can be imported through the cloud library plugin
https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Single
Also you can create your own post templates, starting with a blank template.

Let me know if you have more questions, I will try to help.
