these Images are the problems for GTMetrix….
I swear, that I’ve googled about 2 hours. Every page says: yeah specify it…
(oh really) I’m new to this whole thing and I would like to correct these problems but:
I found nowhere, WHERE to add this :

(example)
When I open the css file – I cannot find these tags. (btw: do I only have to change this there?)
Hope you guys can help me!
Thank you very much đ
I set my compression level for thumbnails to “50” in my functions.php file, which ensures that all the thumbnails are compressed via Imagemagik on server when created, and no need for intermediate plugin. For a little better quality try “60” or even “70” … but it makes huge difference, and all those thumbnails look fine at 50 from the WordPress thumbnail generation. (See my code for this in the page speed sticky!)
For compression in Photoshop with save-for-web jpegs I usually start with quality factor of “35” with softening of 0.2; with anything that has a lot of “reds” in the image, you’d have to go to 52 to eliminate the horrible artifacts (old mpeg/jpeg compression doesn’t do too well with strong reds…). But try using 52 vs 95 in Photoshop, if you’re using that. Then go down to 40 and see if you can see any difference; usually not.
You just need a plugin like “EWWW Image Optimizer” every time you upload a image the plugin will fixed it for you…
“Stacks are loaded from the Theme Panel”. Where, exactly, are they in Theme Panel?
Thanks,
Mario
Thanks, guys! What compression level do you usually drop your photos to before uploading? I’ve been doing 95 because I want my JPG’s crisp, and it doesn’t seem like I’m getting penalized due to the high quality, just due to the fact that they aren’t “fully compressed”…
Google has always recommended optimization of images; and this is why tools like Smushit, and modification of the default compression level in the functions.php file are so important, in addition to properly optimizing the images in Photoshop or similar to the lowest possible size that doesn’t suck BEFORE you upload them.
You can generally ignore any mention of any image needing 1kb of optimization. Remember Google’s info is “recommendation” not “the law.” If your site is over 90 desktop and over 80 mobile you don’t need to worry about “slow site speed penalties” which supposedly now exist. For example, for some images we like to embed the copyright info for legal reasons, which is meta data; technically you can make image smaller by removing that. Well, maybe I don’t want to đ
Also, FYI, the speed for an average page in the Newspaper demo, is “94” desktop — but you are correct the demo for mobile is getting “under 70” due to the images on the latest demo not being fully optimized, which I’m sure Radu and folks will address soon as they got a bit sidetracked on the 4.0 fixes and updating the docs.
Google want to drive all of us crazy…they make changes to they system lately and since then scores not the same..so ignore what they telling you about the images…
Test ur site on Gtmetrix and u will see the score is way better then what google page giving…
It looks like the demo has dropped to a 68 because Google is weighting image size in the score more than they used to. I understand part of it is that we are serving the 745×483 image size on mobile. The other half of the equation is that the images are not “losslessly compressed”
What does Google want us to do to “losslessly compress” images? I am exporting them in Pixelmator, then running them through “ImageOptim” where the file size is reduced even more. Yet, when I upload them to the site and wordpress resizes them, the images seem to have about 1 KB of extra data in them that Google doesn’t like.
Any ideas on how to reasonably get these images down in size? It seems impractical to download every thumbnail size of every image off the server, compress it, and then re-upload it. Thanks!
Thanks for a great theme đ
hi,
thanks Shashank Shekhar for your answer.
Yes import predefined styles and modify them as you want.
See how I modified for me : http://www.techizm.com/
I see in the sales page there are DEMO STACKS but i don’t understand how to take advantage of them? should i download this predefined templates?
I have most of the new functions figured out and they’re great.
Final question I have is how to get this tiled photo gallery like here http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/seat-and-enjoy-about-this-amazing-theme/ ?
I have tried before through Jetpack plugin but this one is not compatible anymore and can’t seem to find the option anywhere. How do you guys do this?
And then: is there a way to apply the lightbox to every single picture on my posts?
Thank you!
Hi Lucian,
I have made the update :). It’s the same problem :(.
How to resolve the problem please ? it’s strange beacause you don’t have this problem in the demo website
Hi,
The themes latest version is 4.1 not 4.2, so like i said i have tested on themes latest version and found no issues.
Look at the demo, it’s using the latest version and the same div’s withe same classes http://screencast.com/t/heekiVyswuU It’s working fine there too.
When I say that on mobile Google doesn’t allow ads to be placed first on page causerie may cause inconvenience when scrolling on mobile, it;s a Google policy.
You may want to disable some plugins if you say the ads don’t work for you and see if it starts working.
Thanks
đ
If it’s in the demo I’d expect to be able to do this…
please show how
hi,
this can be achieved only by changing the code of the theme, no theme panel option for this one.
———-
(after playing with the settings â couldnât get the look of demo for some reason) -> play some more you will get the hang of it.
Thanks for you message.

Ok so that means:
If I install the demo, I cannot avoid this Titles?
Looks pretty stupid, when I blog something about p.e potatoes and its displayed under “Tech and Gagdets” đ
edit: I already deleted the Category 1 / 2/ 3- but still displaying my Blogpost under the title: Tech and Gagdet p.e

hi,
if you installed the demo then you should have ‘Category 1’, ‘Category 2’, ‘Category 3’, witch are created by the demo installer : http://screencast.com/t/YFOhXik9pAvP
you are talking about : ‘Tech and Gagdets / Fashion and Trends’ witch are predefined theme styles : http://screencast.com/t/6K7Xx3gvB , http://screencast.com/t/K1IgJ0ECoNp .
those theme styles are no creating topics or whatever, they just set some variables that the theme uses to display the pages. You can hit ‘Factory Restore’ : http://screencast.com/t/kDs2B1aWDoZv (to go back to the default style) but this will delete any configuration that you have made from ‘Theme Panel’ so please be very careful when doing this.
if you have : Tech and Gagdets / Fashion and Trends / Travel Guides – this are not created by Newspaper theme, they come from somewhere else.
Thanks for you message.

Hi there!
I hope someone can help me:
I installed the demo and I would like to remove the installed categories (can’t find them as categories in wordpress)
For example:
Tech and Gagdets / Fashion and Trends / Travel Guides
These are topics which I didn’t create.
Unfortunately I can’t find anything to delete this sections.
My blogposts are shown in this sections, although it’s not about Traveling ect.
Thanks in advance!
how do I do that ?
(after playing with the settings – couldn’t get the look of demo for some reason).
Kinda off topic, I have the most prior version of this theme, how do I get the subcategories to show up when you click on on of the main categories?
example: when you click on the demo theme “lifstyles” menu tab you see sub categories below the main categorie “lifestyles”

Hi,
The “About me” section from you pointed is made using a text widget and add html code in it like this: http://screencast.com/t/FFwelzXh
Here is the html code for the About me widget from our demo:
<img src="http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_classic_blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/meee1.jpg">
<h2>John Doe</h2>
I'm John and recently I've moved to Rochester, which isn't that far away, I do many things like writing articles and playing football.
You can create a custom sidebar for each author and add the “About me” text widget in each sidebar for each author and use that custom sidebar on post for the author you want like this: http://screencast.com/t/NcTj0uH5ph
Thanks
