1. That widget looks like a normal TagDiv slider pulling from a category or tag slug. You can find this in your widgets list. I don’t want to install the demo site and check but it’ll be something like that.
2. The block options, whether widget or in the visual editor, have a setting “show child categories menu” that you can check for this effect.
1. I haven’t seen a way, but it is a little flexible; it seems to crop a little when it executes the resize. The original demo images are not actually all the same dimensions before being resized, e.g.:
http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/DeskWalls-672.jpg
http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/DeskWalls-124.jpg
And the featured images on my site, which were all 960×540 from when I imported them to this WordPress install, are cropped pretty well in the big slider. Note that you might be facing an issue that there is some documentation on:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
2. The homepage is a regular WordPress page that gets marked as the front page in the WordPress settings (under “Reading”). You could have the other pages look like it by editing the homepage, switching to classic mode, copying all the shortcodes you see there, and pasting those into a new page. Then switch to the backend editor on the new page and tweak from there.

Greetings,
I would like some help regarding some issues I have with the theme so far:
1. Is there a way to automatically adjust the images to fit in the Big Slider? For now I have to manually edit the sizes of the images.
2. Is it possible to make each of my pages I create per category look like a separate demo stack? When I purchased this theme in the first place I wanted my site to look like the demo stacks for my individual categories; like fashion or sports.
Thanks! You have created a wonderful theme!
site: EminentCulture.com
was looking at the demo site and like the idea of the popular videos widget on the home page. i cant figure out how to create this.. is it in the visual composer and if so which box is it?
also while i am at it..
on the demo site there is a BLOCK 2 visual composer that says “Dont Miss”. Does anyone know how to get the catagories that are writen below the title ie.. All, Beauty, Get inspired, Health & Diet
Hi,
I can’t make the big slider look like in the Newspaper demo, can you help? please check: healthie.org
Thank you.
Hi,
I just bought the theme and i love it! I would like to use the same header menu style you have in the Classic Blog preview(http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_classic_blog/), but i didnt found it. Can you help me please?
Thanks in advance.
Note that if you install the demo, it’s easy to delete the associated posts, pages, categories, etc.
Hi, I have installed the theme, and just have no clue what to do next. I have just converted my wp.com to .org and so all my featured images and media library have gone, but even so I can’t understand why at the top there is just a big black box. Also, it says it is listing my posts by the most recent first, but it isn’t – it’s got all my posts jumbled up.
I want my home page to be the same layout as the demo page. http://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/full_screen_preview/5489609
I don’t want to install the demo because I don’t want all it’s posts. What do I do? Why isn’t it laid out like in the preview?
Please help!! lifeisntjustaholiday.com
Hi,
Tested this and look like you can’t do it. The button doesn’t gets the color only if it’s one of these: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/buttons/
If you want other colors you have to add it via css and you can use the buttons class and re-write the color.
For example in your case you can use the class for green and add your own color so when you use the green for color it loads your custom color, like this:
.td-post-text-content .wpb_green {
background: #52D017 !important;
}
Thanks
Hi Cherry
you might want to keep ONE thread, vs starting three or more regarding your site and pagespeed. Basically if you get all the things updated already covered in your other two threads, then mobile speed will also increase.
Again, as I’ve noted previously, you can’t do anything about the external ads being served which impact speed. Not sure how you’re loading ads on a demo site anyway, frankly. You should turn ads OFF for testing your “actual” speed. So the “errors” for mobile for the javascript and images from Google ads and advertisement browser caching, are impacting your score but nothing you can address and are false positives vis a vis the site and theme.
You *can* minify the main .css file which is showing as NOT minfied, as we’ve already covered in your prior threads.
Minifying http://cherrykoks.de/…ntent/themes/Newspaper/style.css?ver=4.1 could save 7.1KiB (16% reduction) after compression.
And basically don’t use contact form 7 unless you actually need it. Since you don’t have a live site, why would you need somebody to contact you anyway at this stage of your playing with the theme and setup without actual content. If you’re planning to use that, then you could presumably add its css to bottom of the main style.css, then hack the plugin to not write its own CSS into the head of the theme; or this would be example of where — as you’d asked elsewhere — you would add the plugin to the speedbooster plugin code to get it dumped at bottom of theme and optimized.
And remember best to test a post page for score not home page, since most people do NOT land on a site home page, but “surf in” to content from a social media link/share, or search result page, etc. — home page will always be a trickier prospect since it’s not indicative of the rest of the site, using sliders, modules, more photos, ajax loads, etc.
Also be aware you cannot get a 100/100 score with a WordPress site running numerous photos, plugins, ads, social media hooks, etc. Only people who have accomplished this have done custom sites without images, using CDN, and custom coding to maximize above the fold content load separate from below the fold content.
If you get above 80 on mobile and above 90 on desktop, you can really get on with your life and worry about content and marketing.

Ok now, here’s the story:
I deleted my whole blog because still having issues. So I reinstalled everything new (had the demo running, now own build) I also thought, that Cloudflare would be the problem- but it isn’t (right now I don’t use CF)
Christopher Simmons helped me a lot- so I was able to solve a lot of things on my own.
But there are still some things I can’t handle on my own (seems like it) – and I’m on the edge of despair.
FYI my installed plugins:
tagbooster, W3 Total Cache, wpSeo, Code Embed, TinyMCE, Animated Gif Resize, Antispam Bee, Async JS and CSS, Broken Link Checker, Contact Form 7, EWW Image Optimizer, Jetpack, Query Strings Remover, WP DB-Manager, Google XML Sitemaps and the Visual Composer.
No matter what I do (installing Query Strings Remover or adding a code to the functions.php) I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE “REMOVE QUERY STRINGS”
I really need someone to help me fix this or show me how to! I’m so helplessly I could cry over this!
I would like to start with adding content, but this makes me really desperate
The claimed files are:
Remove query strings from static resources
C (70)
88%
Content High
What does this mean?
Resources with a “?” in the URL are not cached by some proxy caching servers. Remove the query string and encode the parameters into the URL for the following resources:http://cherrykoks.de/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/includes/css/styles.css?ver=4.1
http://cherrykoks.de/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/external/bootstrap/td-bootstrap.css?ver=4.1
http://cherrykoks.de/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/style.css?ver=4.1
Next one is:
Specify a cache validator
A (90)
93%
Server High
What does this mean?
The following resources are missing a cache validator. Resources that do not specify a cache validator cannot be refreshed efficiently. Specify a Last-Modified or ETag header to enable cache validation for the following resources:http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=PT+Sans:400,700,400italic|Ubuntu:400,400italic|Open+Sans:400italic,400|Oswald:400,700|Roboto+Condensed:400italic,700italic,400,700?ver=4.1
http://gtmetrix.com/reports/cherrykoks.de/4u0OTZRR
Note: I use as fonts: Georgia and Times New Roman over the whole blog! I was reading a lot of threads with tips as “Comment them out” “delete it” and this is also not working. When I try to comment out in functions.php I get a syntax error. And to delete: I don’t know which lines, because my functions.php looks a little bit different.
The font problem also appears in :
Add Expires headers
B (89)
25%
Server High
What does this mean?
There is 1 static component without a far-future expiration date.
http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=PT+Sans:400,700,400italic|Ubuntu:400,400italic|Open+Sans:400italic,400|Oswald:400,700|Roboto+Condensed:400italic,700italic,400,700?ver=4.1
Page Speed Insights for example is complaining about the “above the fold” thing on mobile Devices and desktop, these are the same files- which GTMetrix claims with “remove query strings”
see here: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=cherrykoks.de&tab=mobile
Everything else is ok for me- but how can I solve the “few” problems.
I hope there’s an angel in this forum who can save me from getting nuts.
If someone of you needs any file information, let me know. I’m glad for any help with this!
Julia
Well the commenting out like here:

thanks a lot, shashank you have 4 adsense units in homepage, I think that is against adsense TOs…. check it out. 🙂

Hi,
I installed the theme, together with demo data.
Right after i installed your empty child theme, included in the package, before any customization and the layout breaks in this way http://imgur.com/r3DTeRl
What should i do?
Thanks
Hello,
I would like to arrange the layout of the Homepage, so that it works the same way as Module 1 Category – Blog Style, as you can see in the demo.
What I am doing is trying to customize the Page associated as Homepage, but I don’t see which element to use on Visual Composer to make the post show as Blog.
What am I missing?
thank you
When you set your permalink structure in the WP settings panel; it will write the proper code to your htaccess file for you, if the file is writable.
You have something funky with your pages, unless you’ve just been editing the demo content vs making new posts … e.g.,
this page
http://cherrykoks.de/allgemein/td_d_slug_44/
should be something like
http://cherrykoks.de/allgemein/name-of-my-story-goes-here/
So that is something wonky you should sort out soonest.
For the Google fonts; once you add the code for the fonts you want to your style.css file, you would delete or comment out the section on google fonts from the functions.php file. Search the forum for more on how to do that.

Hi,
I have noticed that the <span> tag which contains the sub menu indicator is missing for some reason it’s not pulled from the code. We will continue to investigate this, try to disable some plugins and check to see if this is still there, you can check the newspaper demo they are working fine on IE8: http://screencast.com/t/W2uhhGNwaWu so in your case this my be due to a plugins since the demo it’s working.
Try to deactivate plugins one by one and see what happens.
Regarding the font use the ie8 class to select the header menu items and set a smaller font size so that the menu items fit in one line.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Video demonstration: http://youtu.be/rOFd4siBrXw
On the same category as the dropdown you’re looking at, both text and background of the dropdown are the same colour. What might cause this?
I enabled “Track outbound clicks & downloads:” in this Google Analytics plugin, and now when I click on images in the “Big Slider” that’s installed with the theme, the links don’t work. The plugin adds this code to every anchor tag: onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push([‘_trackEvent’,’outbound-article’,’http://demo2.GoRare.com’%5D);” I’m pretty sure the javascript is conflicting with the javascript used in the slider. Please help. What other information do you need to make it easier to help me out?
Also in Firefox I get this message sent to the console everytime I click on the Big Slider with “Track outbound clicks & downloads” enabled, but not in Chrome.. “Empty string passed to getElementById().”
Hi Lucian,
I disabled all plugins but no change in the slider. When I do a side by side test with the demo the major thing is that it looks like the images on my site aren’t resizing to the mobile space but just for the slider area.. the images resize for the rest of the site tho.. weird issue.. not sure how to troubleshoot it.
Thanks for any help or advice you can give. I appreciate it!!

Hi,
@Joe Jerde
Try this https://tagdivdemo.disqus.com/admin/universalcode/ in the td_authors.php file http://screencast.com/t/u6P93hW4
We cannot offer custom work at the moment as we work hard on the development, updates, fixes and support.
You can always get a freelancer from sites like: http://studio.envato.com/ if you don’t know how to do it yourself.
@Christopher
Thanks!
And to answer your question, probably the best way would be to remove this code http://screencast.com/t/EGDnC15e0nyk
@mehedi
As @Christopher writhed we are working hard on the development, updates, fixes and support, you can always get a freelancer if you want to add something new to the theme and don’t know how to or add it issues list on GitHub
Also keep in mind that we have to pick very carefully what we implement as we have may feature requests.
Thanks
In the demo it has four images that represent four different post as the first thing you see on the page. How do you have that show? Sorry I do not know the proper term it is called.
Obviously any customization not found in the online demos for the theme, might require hiring a custom programmer, or building out a custom category template.
But try this:
1) create category called “Tech”
2) in theme panel, go to “categories”
3) click on the accordion for “Tech” and look at the options (assuming you have not already); since you can add a slider, custom sidebar (you have to create one first), custom background color or image (like a techy background for tech, sporty for sports), and the layout of the story display.
I “think” you can use the full width sidebar widget option to create a custom category sidebar (e.g., sidbartech), and then put a full width custom element into that area. I’ve not yet tried that.
I am actually contemplating doing some things like this myself, which is why I thought to reply. Nice thing is you can play with it and not break anything 🙂
Strange are the ways of WP…
Thank you Christopher for the helpful direction and for demonstrating what an effective support answer might look like.
Following your lead and with a fresh start after (again) spending much to much time on a relatively simple issue I hope this is behind me…
Well, the first one is obviously irrelevant as that’s not the logo for your site, so just delete it. Clear your site cache so it can’t be seen. You obviously installed the demo content, which was then cached and hence why that is still found. If you upload your own logos, then the Newspaper logo shouldn’t show up on your site anymore.
FYI, useful to include the link to your GTMetrix report 🙂
I think the logo is loaded from the header and footer files, or a dependent file loaded by one of those and not in the style.css. So, if you look att the header.php script, then look at the different use cases for the layout option you’re using, you should be able to find the right header element…
e.g.,
default:
// this is the default header configuration
// (logo + ad) + menu
locate_template('parts/header-style-1.php', true);
locate_template('parts/menu-header.php', true);
break;
as so:
<a itemprop="url" href="<?php echo home_url(); ?>">
<img width="300" class="td-retina-data" data-retina="<?php echo htmlentities($td_customLogoR) ?>" src="<?php echo $td_customLogo?>" alt="<?php echo $td_logo_alt ?>"<?php echo $td_logo_title ?>/>
</a>
If I’m not mistaken width is specified implicitly to hint the page rendering, and then height is set as “auto” via the theme CSS, which is now common practice.
Hope that helped a little 🙂
