Hello !

That look can be achieved by using the tagDiv Composer and adding a Big Grid block k from the elements list: https://www.screencast.com/t/IMIZyFQpO5w6 find out more about it here: https://tagdiv.com/try-new-flexible-big-grids-with-newspaper-theme/

I hope this was helpfull !

Thank you !

Hello – I’ve set up a page where I’ve inserted a row with the 1/3 vs 2/3 layout, with the intention of having 4 small posts on the left hand side (in the 1/3) and 2 larger posts on the right hand side (in the 2/3). I’ve inserted Flex Block 1 as an element in each and limited the post number in the left hand block to 4 and the right hand block to 2.

My intention is to have different posts in all 6 areas by using the category filter for each of the two elements. That achieves my goal for the vertical blocks but the horizontal blocks are showing the same posts.

Ideally I’d prefer not to have to use the post ID filter to achieve this, since I’ll be dealing with a great number of posts and it will be hard to keep track of. Please let me know if there is a good solution?

My site is in maintenance mode so I will send and email to tagdiv support with the reference to this case. Thank you.

Hi,

The predefined grids have 7 styles available, for example
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/big-grid-1/
The colors used there can’t be changed by a setting, I could provide you with the required CSS to change theme, depending on what you want to do. Mention for which grid style you want to do this.

I should note that flex big grids have options to set an overlay color or gradient for the modules, for example – http://prntscr.com/o7b8vx

Let me know.
Thanks

Hi,

I understand the problem, I mentioned that this is not how it is supposed to display.

After investigating the problem seems that IE doesn’t support a few CSS properties in the mega-menu design, has some limitations on that part.

Please try to enter this code in the theme panel->custom CSS section, then clear the cache and check again. Should be fixed after doing so – http://prntscr.com/o6remi
Here is the code

.ie8 .tdb_module_header .td-image-container,
.ie9 .tdb_module_header .td-image-container,
.ie10 .tdb_module_header .td-image-container,
.ie11 .tdb_module_header .td-image-container {
height: auto;
flex: initial;
}

Regarding the second question, as far as I know the menu cannot be navigated with the keyboard. Let us know if the code works, also if you have more questions.

Thanks

Hi thanks for getting back to me on this. So I re-loaded the imported flex block and made sure the layout tab – article meta info Margin is set as per the above (-40px auto 0 auto). The meta data inset remains below the picture https://www.screencast.com/t/fgOKXyNGG and I’ve tried to adjust those settings with no luck. Could you let me know how to proceed from here?

Simion C. I will send an email to Tagdiv support and reference the case above, with my WordPress login so you can inspect the site while I’m in maintenance mode. Thank you.

Hi,

The customization that positions the post meta over the image is the margin set here
http://prntscr.com/o5u7vr
Without that margin it would indeed look like in the screenshot your provided
http://prntscr.com/o5u71k
While editing the respective page with the composer, click on the imported flex block and check in the layout tab if the article meta has the margins set as mentioned above. It could have been removed for some reason.

The website seems to be in maintenance mode at the moment, so I can’t inspect the block to see what the actual problem is – http://prntscr.com/o5u8zi

Thanks

Hi,

That could happen due to the following. Predefined blocks (1 to 25) should only be placed in these row layouts
http://prntscr.com/o5td6p
Placing them in the other layouts may have the result you are getting ultimately, despite sometimes looking good in the composer. In the other layouts flex blocks can be used
https://tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-flex-block-elements/

Here are block examples created by us using flex blocks, these can be imported with the cloud library plugin – https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Blocks
More about the plugin here – https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-cloud-library-plugin/

If you have more questions let me know.
Thanks

Maybe, I found a bug here, for the Flex Block 4 element, please check the following two settings for the excerpt length(no changes for other settings), why there are so many words when just set to”2″ ? thanks

Hi,

Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict with untested plugins, please deactivate all plugins and child theme ( if you are using ) and let only the tagDiv Composer , clear all cache, deactivate the cache plugin and try again.

Since Newspaper v9.7 the child theme is working only for the functions.php and style.css files.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/

Also since Newspaper v9.7 the api plugin cannot be used anymore, sorry! it has been replaced by a new plugin
https://forum.tagdiv.com/developer-info/
You could use this plugin from now on. Or experiment with flex blocks, maybe what it used to be possible only with the api plugin, it is now possible with flex blocks and grids

Hi,

You can create something similar with that using flex block, add a row set the layout in -> https://www.screencast.com/t/Ok1Gp8sKsHF6 in first section you can do like this ->https://www.screencast.com/t/Ok1Gp8sKsHF6 -> https://www.screencast.com/t/dzpJPtv7VAJH set the flex block in second column to and set Limit post number:1 and one module per row after that set the ad box -> https://www.screencast.com/t/kltgznQKu after that you can right click on the row and save the element, after that you can add this element from composer and only change the post and ad.

Hi,

There is no such filter unfortunately. If they don’t have a featured image set, there will be a placeholder image – http://prntscr.com/o3ei7s
You could use a custom placeholder image instead of the default one
http://prntscr.com/o3ej0l
Or set featured images for the posts if possible. Or display posts that you know don;t have featured images in blocks that don’t display a thumbnail, or flex blocks where you can disable it.

Thanks

I am using Big Grid Flex 5 at the top of my homepage. I want to filter this by most recent posts, but quite a few of my posts won’t have a featured image (or any images at all).

I could have sworn there was a way to filter each block to only show posts that have featured images, but I can’t find it.

Is there a way to set a block or grid to only show posts that have featured images?

I use flex block 3, but please tell me how to enlarge the thumbnail besides the first article. For example, the 1st article and the 3rd article are shown larger.

Perhaps I will need a custom for td_flex_block_3.php, but could you tell me the code?

Please reply if possible.
Thank you !

Hi,

Please set the row stretch to “Stretch row and content” -> https://www.screencast.com/t/i75oYfry after that the flex will be full width ( or you can chose other stretch ), also you can check those settings too -> https://www.screencast.com/t/2XEc9XhBsfH

I love the Fast News template seen in the DEMO on the Newspaper site because the top of the GRID is wide and almost fills the screen

I have been using Big Grid 2 design. I then switched to Big Grid Flex 6 but it doesn’t fill the screen it retains the same dimensions of Big Grid 2.

I have used the default demo version and it still doesn’t have the wide grid!

Is this because of the code entered on the HomePage with TD composer? How do I get my GRID to be wide like in the demo?

thanks

Hello !

The designs do not match because you are using the mobile theme. The Mobile theme was specially designed for optimization on mobile devices. Unfortunately on mobile theme you cannot do much changes of design. If you want to have the same design as on desktop mode you can achieve that by simply disabling the mobile theme. Cloud templates are included. They do no work while having mobile theme.

We are sorry for the inconvenience !

Please try this custom CSS and paste it here if you are using the Mobile Theme:https://www.screencast.com/t/T0N7cNzJHN ; If you are not using the mobile theme paste it here: https://www.screencast.com/t/0vBfC9NJgBv And as you can see here the result: https://www.screencast.com/t/RYnwC7Babk7

Here is the code:
.wpb_wrapper .td_flex_block_1{
box-shadow: none!important;
}

Thank you !

Hi,

Unfortunately our Big Grid Flex 5 do not have this option/filter, those are he only filters that our blocks have -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/
Maybe you can achieve that using the slider element -> https://tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-shortcodes-and-elements/ or using Revolution slider -> https://tagdiv.com/revolution-slider-plugin-with-newspaper-theme/

Thank you!

Hi there, I am trying to figure out the best way of having the ability to use the Big Grid Flex 5 and have the ability to ‘Pin’ the top story to the left block. For example, on a new site, if there is a significant story it needs to stay in that location (the large left block) when more stories are added. Ideally, it would be great if the left block can be one category, and the right 4 blocks are another. For example, the left block and be categorized as ‘top news’ and ‘news’ then when it is no longer relevant the ‘top news’ category can be removed and the main block goes back to normal.

I hope this makes sense and that you can make a suggestion as to how this would work.

Thanks

Hi,

Each block have a specific thumb size
-> Theme thumbs – https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/ so the theme will generate for each thumb you have enable in theme panel one image with that size; if you chose to use the flex blocks you can chose the thumb size you want to show – https://www.screencast.com/t/I85bMjNJZ3

Hi,

The modules don’t show a view count, only a comment count – http://prntscr.com/nzxsd6 The view count is displayed only in the post page. From what I know there a view count may be added in the future, either for all blocks in the theme panel, or just for flex blocks in the composer.

Only through code modifications will the modules display a view count, but after the 9.7 update it will have to be made directly in the main files, as with a child theme it won’t work anymore – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-show-postviews-instead-og-commentcount-on-frontpage/

Thanks

Hi,

Depends on the blocks/modules used. They display different thumb sizes
https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/
The theme will crop and create multiple thumbnails from the images you set as featured
https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image/
https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-vs-featured-image-size/
Maybe try and use different types of blocks, choose the ones that display the thumbnails which are best suited for your images.
In the composer there are also flex blocks and grids, which have options for the images
http://prntscr.com/nzuitehttp://prntscr.com/nzuj2e

If you have more questions let me know.
Thanks
