The Google bot find the smallest image file to index, your problem is related with speed, i test your article, have a very low score in Google speed test

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.techienews.co.uk%2F9740327%2Flyme-disease-concern-canadians-likely-to-get-false-positives-from-some-us-labs%2F&tab=desktop

You need to install a cache system, Goolge News sitemap, i have many website indexed in Google News, and its important to speed up your website.

Dear Steven,

Just for your information – I had these same problems when I got 100/100 on Google PageSpeed test, 98% on GTMetrix test. When these errors were not there – these errors come from my migrated files because I have not yet setup ads correctly as it seams.

So this issue is with iPhone models, if Samsung/Android works, or theme, not these errors, as this was happening before as I say, and I tested it on two iPhone devices with same results.

Can anyone from tagDiv support take a look at this, or anyone with iPhone?

Thanks!

Hi Guys

I need help optimising my website – I recently upgraded to cloudflare pro in a bid to increase the pagespeed but I am yet to get the right config. I need help with the present page score which is presently at 64%.

http://www.screencast.com/t/MJvoDvkdc

I presently use the following plugin what is your recommendation with:

1. wp super cache
2. Ad Inserter Plugin
I use the ad inserter plugin for my adsense to align side by side. I am trying to use as less plugin as I can use, can the internal Ad setting in the theme panel do the following:

http://www.screencast.com/t/vFs4obpq
http://www.screencast.com/t/7HlbzLT7UC

3. Do you have compatibility issues with the WPML plugin – what is your recommendation with using it.

Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, I have managed to push demo install to 99/100 on Google Page Speed!

Only one thing keeps me from 100/100 and it drives me crazy 🙂

“Leverage browser caching for the following cacheable resources:
http://…/images/icons/newspaper.woff?7 (5 days)”

What ever I do for this newspaper.woff file, addtype, add to browser caching, delete from style.css and font-less file, rename, nothing – it is always there and it is the only file not cached by my server.

PLEASE HELP 🙂 How to remove this file, or make it cache in browser for at least one year …

Thanks!

Hello,

I have newspaper theme v6.2 installed on my website.

URL : http://www.naukrinama.com
Google Page Speed URL : https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=naukrinama.com

It shows a lot of JS and CSS errors. With the steps mentioned on this URL : https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/

I took out the ID’s of the various JS and CSS files and have created the code lines. But i am confused where to add then in the speed booster plugin php file.

I can already see similar code for that ID added there. Should i replace it or what ?

Hello,

I have newspaper theme v6.2 installed on my website.

URL : http://www.naukrinama.com

I have gzip compression enabled onto my website/server and have added rules for it in .htaccess file also. The other testing tools for compression is showing the gzip compression enabled, but google page speed is still showing the compression error.

How can i get it resolved.

Google Page Speed URL : https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=naukrinama.com
Other Tools URL : http://checkgzipcompression.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.naukrinama.com
https://varvy.com/tools/gzip/
http://www.gziptest.com/result/www.naukrinama.com
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.naukrinama.com/UZUzM84r (But gtmetric score for gzip compression is very low)

Also can you tell me how can I increase I gzip compression score.

Hello,

I have newspaper theme v.62 installed on my website. Browser caching was earlier working fine on my website but suddenly it has stopped working and my google page speed has gone down.

Website URL : http://www.naukrinama.com
Google Page Speed : https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=naukrinama.com

Here is the code written in my .htaccess file.

Thank you for the expert advice Andrei. Much appreciated. You guys are giving first class support and no wonder why your themes are selling like hot cakes.

Regarding plugins, I am using following Contact Form7, SEO by Yoast, Akismet, WPSmush it, w3 total cache, regenerate plugin, visual composer and tag div speed booster.

I used w3 total cache because it gave me better score.

I am aware Akismet is not supported by speed booster so what I did is i removed the code from speed booster so it won’t get disabled.

So I am not finding anything to disable except I need to start looking for Chris WordPress Pagespeed optimization tricks.

Can we disable Visual Composer when website is UP and running? Or is it always needs to be there even when I am not editing any pages or homepage?

Buna ziua,

Multumesc!

Hi

Okay, I followed your instructions to move CSS and used following code:

$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘td-theme’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘js_composer_front’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘google-fonts-style’);

and I did pagespeed test at:

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowsmechanic.com%2F

Under the Desktop section, I find most of the CSS have moved to footer and “Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content” now kinda Okay. Good Job here and thank you for help.

But under Mobile section of page speed (please check my pagespeed link), I do find same CSS files are blocking. Especially google fonts. But we already have the following codes in the td-speed-booster.php

$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘google_font_open_sans’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘google_font_roboto’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘td-theme’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘js_composer_front’);
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘google-fonts-style’);

Any Idea why the same CSS blocking message appears again under the mobile section of page speed ?

Do we have any other section in td-speed-booster.php where I need to add code to change my pagespeed score (Mobile) higher?

Siraj

I can’t seem to solve or make progress on my Newspaper Theme performance issues.
I’ve got five friends that want to use Newspaper, too, if only I can get past my performance issues.
(They’re new bloggers, they like the idea of the theme, they’re a bit worried about my inability to fix my performance issues, or to find someone who can.)

My performance sucks (in the 40’s) with no clear remedy in sight.
Worse, when users hit my site the first time, the page loads blank (no images show)
If they reload the home page, then images show the second time, but after a flash of gray.

Here are screen shots:
* Empty Images – http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/509260/1ae034f2ac380576a5dd1d8e49faed92
* On Reload – http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/509262/dd0893dd0a1944de6aab6f0a9591e297

I haven’t seen anybody else’s site load like mine, where it’s all framed out with gray placeholders, and then, as if a second flash, the images then show up.

Here’s my setup at a glance:
* I’m hosting on Siteground.
* I use WP Rocket which is tested with Siteground — just default options.
* I’m using a CDN (Cloudflare), with default options.
* I have Gzip working.
* I use WP Smush Pro to smush all images (all images are smushed.)
* I used P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) to analyze plugin performance.

I contemplated W3 cache (well, In installed it, but it was immediate conflict with WP Rocket, and WP Rocket’s feature compare shows superior in all regards, but I don’t have enough experience yet to know of it’s true.)

I get Chris’s point on the difference between buying a car, and driving the car. Well, now I want to know how to drive like the Mario Andretti. I feel like I’ve got the “owner’s Guide”, but not the “Driver’s Guide”. But actually, I don’t want yet another guide, I want a student driver model where I pay a consultant to show me the ropes for a couple of hours while fixing things, looking over my shoulder, or me looking over theirs.)

My images are probably the main problem, I don’t know how to fix them without doing weird acts of God, and I’m trying to keep posting simple and pragmatic, not build a better mouse trap with weird optimizations and even weirder workflow.

I’ve seen these tips:

* Radu – On the demo we are running a stock theme with our stock speed booster plugin! Also note that any additional plugins slow the theme down and lower the score in pagespeed. – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/what-is-your-googlespeed-value/

* Pingdom Tools – reality test – http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/bGth8K/sourcesofinsight.com
* Web Page Test – http://www.webpagetest.org/

Google tells me my page speed sucks. Is Compression Working tells me Gzip is working. Pingdom tells me my images are bloated. GTMetrix fails with a 522 timeout and blames my CDN.

The quote that keeps me going is:
“Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

I guess I’m getting stronger day by day.

Google has been making changes to their algorithm and rolled out latest changes recently; this is an ongoing process. Sometimes changing your page structure, layout, placement of links, etc. can cause a change in indexing. Obviously good to check your Google Search Console (previously Webmaster Tools) for any crawl errors, drop in inbound links, rise in 404 errors if you changed permalinks, etc.

Also if your mobile friendly status changed, or PageSpeed dropped considerably, that can also have an impact.

We’ve been going through the same issue with our California news portal (10+ years old).

This seems to really be impacting sites in Google News due to how they “feature” news items for 7 days, but then seem to “whack” the organic results for awhile, then they come back.

We’ve not been able to sort out WHY this happens — one of our sites took huge traffic hit (using Canvas theme); while another took a huge jump switching from Canvas to Newsmag.

Hi,

I was optimizing my website:

https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/

Did a pagespeed test:

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowsmechanic.com%2F&tab=desktop

Got 3 blocking CSS resources:

http://fonts.googleapis.com/…s?family=Open+Sans%3A400%2C700&ver=4.2.4
http://www.windowsmechanic.com/…ser/assets/css/js_composer.css?ver=4.6.2
http://www.windowsmechanic.com/…ent/themes/Newspaper/style.css?ver=6.3.2
http://www.windowsmechanic.com/…ser/assets/css/js_composer.css?ver=4.6.2
http://fonts.googleapis.com/…00,400italic,700,500italic,400?ver=6.3.2

Also following JS:

http://ajax.googleapis.com/…s/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js?ver=1.11.1
http://www.windowsmechanic.com/…wspaper/js/tagdiv_theme.min.js?ver=6.3.2

So I added the code in functions.php to get the list of registered css and js. Here is the result

registered scripts:

td-site-min | http://www.windowsmechanic.com/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/js/tagdiv_theme.min.js
jquery | http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js

registered styles:

google_font_roboto |
google-fonts-style | http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:400,700
js_composer_front | http://www.windowsmechanic.com/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/assets/css/js_composer.css
td-theme | http://www.windowsmechanic.com/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/style.css

So I decided to edit the plugin (td-speed-booster/td-speed-booster.php) and added following code:

$this->move_style_to_footer(‘google-fonts-style’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘js_composer_front’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘td-theme’);

The moment I add this, page speed says that they get 500 error code and website never loads. I added at following location.

if ($this->is_ie === false) {

// move style.css theme style
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘google-fonts-style’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘js_composer_front’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘td-theme’); // $this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘td-theme’); //this is the main style of the theme. It’s only moved on Newspaper 6!
}

I suspect that I may be adding in wrong place.. I am yet to move the js to footer. Am stuck with css.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong please. Any kind feedback is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

I was using another theme at my website and recently switched to newspaper 6 and found out that WYSIWYG editor doesn’t show up when I hit the tab. On the other side, I can use Visual Composer and it is working ok.

Moreover, when I switch to previous theme or any other theme (like default Twenty Fifteen) the WYSIWYG editor shows up okay and can be used.

A couple of screenshots:

Simple text editor with Newspaper6 activated – http://upics.ru/images/2015/08/20/texta2dd9.jpg

WYSIWYG editor with Newspaper6 activated – http://upics.ru/images/2015/08/20/wysiwyg_nope528ed.jpg (doesn’t show up)

WYSIWYG editor with another theme activated – http://upics.ru/images/2015/08/20/any_other_theme_okay00327.jpg (works ok)

P.S. Important: I don’t yet have any caching plugins installed and apache doesn’t have pagespeed module enabled.

Hello,

I have installed Newspaper Theme v6.2 on my website.

URL : http://www.naukrinama.com

The google Page Speed score of my site is very low. For desktop it is 49 and for mobile it is 61.
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=naukrinama.com

I have enabled gzip compression and have optimized the WPSuperCache settings as well.
I have checked on console also there are no errors.

Can you tell me what else should i do so that my page speed can be improved.

Hi

In short, Speed Booster configured with added scripts

/**
* move javascript to footer
*/
$this->move_js_to_footer('themepunchtools');
$this->move_js_to_footer('revmin');

$this->move_js_to_footer('archivesCW');
$this->move_js_to_footer('aspexi-facebook-like-box');
$this->move_js_to_footer('td-site-min');
$this->move_js_to_footer('wpmu-public-min-js');
$this->move_js_to_footer('comment-reply');

But pagespeed keep saying to move them down

The same is happening with CSS

Any idea what could be wrong?

Well “page loading time” is only one element of optimization; there is also Google’s PageSpeed which can impact ranking for mobile users and how well your site will be shown in SERPS. That is one of the main reasons to “optimize” a site — “speed loading” is one aspect while “speed rating” is another. So, obviously WP Rocket and Cloudflare help by re-writing pages for clients, but not everybody wants to pay for those services.

For example my business site has a UX score of 100/100. Desktop 97/100. Mobile 96/100. Avg. page load 1.2 sec with https and no CDN or caching plugin on top. That matters. While various solutions exist, DIY, outsource, or paid service to rewrite pages dynamically — one needs to do something.

So, obviously folks need to research what fits their needs the best.

All great info in the thread as I’m sure the newbies will find it of interest. 🙂

True, but it’s still good to learn how the functions.php file, .htaccess, and wp-config.php files work, as those are necessary for customizing any WP theme/install — and for things like WooCommerce where to make ANY customizations those have to be done in the functions.php file, not editing templates. Still, totally understand some folks don’t want to “touch stuff” and would rather pay others to do it. That’s why I am still in business doing tech work for clients and design/branding after 32 years 😉

I mostly added that comment for folks who might follow your thread and then think they need to hire somebody to do 90% of the legwork, which can be done in 10 minutes by editing 3 files. The trickier bits of massaging caching, mod_pagespeed, etc., is worth paying for if somebody else is truly experienced at it and not being paid to “learn by doing” on your behalf.

So, all good. Lots of options for folks to DIY or hire out.

They are still working on it, but improving quickly. Some current stats from tests:

Tested http://www.ilike2complain.com with the Full Page Test in Pingdom Tools.
This specific test was done on August 15 at 08:27:39 from Stockholm, Sweden. The web page took 3.32 s to load, used 92 requests, and weighed in at 1.4 MB.
The Google Page Speed performance grade for this web page is 78/100

On google PageSpeed Insights page the numbers are up to:
Desktop: 76/100
Mobile: 56/100

They have completed 1/2 of the work so far. This is a lot lot better then the 20/100 we had 12 hours ago.

Note that some of the stuff in my functions.php list may not apply to you, for example if not using YOAST SEO plugin, you’d not need the code there. If you’re using Visual Composer for anything other than home page, you would likely not use the visual composer stuff at bottom.

Basic issues with editing functions.php are
a) edit with a true text editor, like textpad, BBEdit, or other programmer tool, *NOT* a word processor; and make sure if using Unix, you save with unix line breaks; with Windows server, you may need to save with Windows line breaks

b) make sure you don’t break end of the file — meaning, some functions.php files have a closing ?> bracket, some don’t — obviously you should put code INSIDE the closing php bracket if there is one, but *NOT* inside another query bracket — so good to make sure you’re putting it in the right place at the end of the file, but not outside a closing bracket for the file, but not inside closing bracket for another function.

c) make sure you don’t have a “service” which is trying to do the exact same things, through a dynamic re-write — meaning, if you have some kind of aggressive service re-writing your pages to remove the version numbers on end of files, my list might conflict.

My lineup of optimizations work perfectly with mod_pagespeed (e.g., comment removal and indent removal, etc.), Apache/Linux servers, current version of WP, tagdiv booster framework, YOAST SEO, and mod_SPDY.

Like anything — always keep backup, and revert back if any change to ANYTHING you do does not work as expected.

And use common sense — if you have “allow pingbacks” turned *on* in your WP admin panel — you shouldn’t use my function to turn that off on the backend 🙂

Hi,

I’ve checked your site on pagespeed and gtmetrix and the server response time is high. The optimization is good but the page load time is too high – http://screencast.com/t/UThrBPlUO
You could try to use a CDN, we recommend Cloudflare – https://www.cloudflare.com/
Also check the error.log file to see if there’s a something related to this behavior.

Thank you!

Hi,

I enabled a custom font for post content (“Open Sans” font from Google). When I do pagespeed test, I find that this font loads at begining and come as a CSS blocking page loading. Where as the default font used “Roboto” does not block the pageload as per google page speed.

How can I make my custom fonts not to block the page load?

Regards
Siraj
