Hi,
We are encountering a compatibility issue between your theme and WP Rocket’s “Add missing image dimensions” feature. When this feature is enabled, WP Rocket adds width and height attributes to images in galleries. However, the dimensions are incorrect, which causes images to stretch improperly and breaks the gallery layout.
The gallery functions as expected when the feature is disabled. However, we require this feature to remain enabled due to performance optimizations it provides for image handling.
We have referred to this article in WP Rocket’s documentation: Add Missing Image Dimensions. It mentions that the feature modifies the image HTML to include dimensions based on available metadata or placeholders, which might conflict with custom gallery implementations.
Could you please investigate this issue or provide guidance on how we can resolve it? For example:
– Could you ensure compatibility in the theme’s gallery implementation to work seamlessly with WP Rocket’s feature?
– Alternatively, is there a way to override the WP Rocket behavior specifically for gallery images in your theme?

Hello – I have just purchased Newspaper theme, and against post thumbnails (on my homepage) I need to display an external image URL stored in a custom meta field called “external_featured_image_url” from the database instead of the normal featured image on my home page. This is crucial functionality and I was hoping I will be able to overwrite these template blocks by using files from td-standard-pack in my child theme as you suggest in your documentation, however! I kept on reading and for the latest version you don’t suggest using td-standard-pack.
I typically edit the local PHP templates (e.g., the_post_thumbnail() calls) and replace them with a check for the external_featured_image_url meta url. However, in your theme, the layout is controlled by cloud-based blocks, so there don’t appear to be local template files to customize in a child theme.
I looked for a functions.php filter or action hook that might let me override the featured image logic, but I couldn’t find a clear reference in the documentation.
My Goal:
For any post with “external_featured_image_url” set, show that URL instead of the WordPress “Featured Image” or a placeholder.
If _external_featured_image_url is empty, fall back to the normal featured image or default behavior.
How can I do this?
Gotcha, but is there a way to remove the placeholder on the front end of things, but when someone was to click through to a post they would see the image there instead?
For example in this photo https://imgur.com/a/99DIjuX I have the placeholder set to that newspaper image, but what if I wanted it to be shown like the one under “latest news” but when a user clicks into it post they see the featured image with the newspaper? like this https://imgur.com/a/YLCtlxV
would that be possible?
Hello,
You can set a featured image for each post here https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image-or-video-7/
So if the posts don’t have the featured image, then they will display a blank thumb; you can set a placeholder.
You can set a Placeholder in Theme Panel -> Blocks Settings -> https://i.imgur.com/mo0Cbu2.png
Thank you!
Hello,
Yes, you can set a placeholder for the featured image -> https://prnt.sc/026NzzaJxLUu
The image size can be the same as the featured image.
Normally, you do not need to regenerate them, only the thumbnails of the new placeholder.
Thank you!
Hi, couple of questions.
- Is it possible to have a placeholder image displayed on the post for when a post doesn’t have a featured image.
- If so, how do I change this to a custom image? Is it the same image as the thumb placeholder in the block settings in the theme settings?
- When uploading a thumb placeholder, what minimum dimensions should it be?
- If thumb placeholder is uploaded/changed do I need to regenerate thumbnails for entire media library or can I just regenerate thumbnails for new thumb placeholder in media library.
Thanks for your help,
John
Hello,
This means that you can set a default image if the posts don’t have a featured image, like a placeholder -> https://i.imgur.com/T0C7hrQ.png
Thank you!
Also i saw When WP Rocket is enabled, the gallery images show an SVG placeholder code in the lightbox (as seen in the inspect tool), resulting in “Image Cannot Be Loaded” errors. This problem only occurs with the gallery block; individual images work perfectly with LazyLoad and lightbox functionality.
code looks like this: https://prnt.sc/Gqa4l-1alfaB
Hi,
By checking the “Hide image” checkbox it hides all images, need to remove only the fallback image or Placeholder image when no image is available.
If the image is present on a post it must show over the frontend.

Please help.
I am now back to 12.6.4 but no return to normal
This morning we updated the theme to Newspaper 12.6.4
After the machine finished automatically updating the plugins, the screen asked to register the theme since it was “not registered” (yet it had already been registered in the past).
However, we tracked down the serial number and re-recorded the theme successfully.
Although everything “seemed” to be fine, the child theme appears completely devastated: post aside, it seems that all the sections have returned to default (even the image boxes have the original placeholder).
We deleted and reinstalled Composer, cleared the cache, switched between parent and child themes, disabled all the plugins and re-activated them one by one… but no results. Now we are trying to go back to a previous backup.
What is going on???
Hi,
This is how the placeholder works: to load first until the images are loaded.
If you have the lazy load enabled, please set it to no animation.
Thank you!
I am experiencing an issue with the loading of the featured image on my posts on the website. Both in the individual post and on the homepage and archive pages, the placeholder image appears a few seconds before the actual featured image appears. I have set this up to prevent having a post without an image. Is there a setting causing this or do you know of another solution to solve this issue?
The website facing this issue is ITWM
Hello,
The image for placeholder can be set from the Newsmag > theme panel > block settings > thumbs – https://i.imgur.com/UtRILGB.png
Thank you!
Cool Simion ???
it’s very good idea.
BTW
I can’t find in the theme panel the palce to add the placeholder which fills empty images in searches. Like here:
https://prnt.sc/ocHu_v8AyIIP
Do you know where is it?
Regards
What do you mean by “black images”?? I am really not understanding.
I got it working. The default had been a .webp image. When I re-uploaded it as .jpg, I was able to set it as “full size” and now it appears as the placeholder as I wanted.
thanks.
Hi mgraban, I was referring that now there are no longer “black images”.
To set the placeholder image in full size – https://i.imgur.com/Y0ORCKH.jpg
Thank you!
Hi – When you say, “now it’s OK” do you mean the default placeholder is showing?
That’s not the case for me.
I’m not totally sure what this means: “when you set a placeholder, set it in full image size, and not a thumb,”
Thanks,
Mark
Hi mgraban, I checked your website and I see that now it’s ok.
What I forgot to mentioned is when you set a placeholder, set it in full image size, and not a thumb, also the steps you did with “thumbnail regeneration” are ok if you changed the thumbs dimension you used.
Now according to your screenshot it is like some images are no loading, most of the time when this problem appear to our users was related to a cache plugin that has been used, maybe now was the same.
Thank you!

Hi,
That is a placeholder for the articles that do not have set a featured image .
What I can recommend is using the placeholder option from the theme panel: https://i.imgur.com/51hL36l.png. This will replace that image with the one you set there.
I hope this will help you!
Hi –
I would love to be able to change this default image and I cannot figure out how and where to do so:
