I do not want my readers to see views each post has on the website just beside the eye on every post. I read in one of the questions here that in order for the ‘Popular (last 7 days)’ to work well, ‘show view’ must also be enabled on the theme panel along with the ajax view count.
I have disabled the ‘show post views’ but left the ajax view count.
Will this affect the way ‘Popular (last 7 days)’ works ?
I do not have any cache plugin or jetpack installed which I also read here affects this feature. Kindly advise.

And if disabling “show post views” affects Popular (last 7 days), then kindly provide me an alternative because I do not want the views I get on my posts to be a public information.
Maybe this is not only a smart list problem but a general since we updated to the latest WordPress + Newspaper version. All our pictures indexed by google now are only thumbs or the modal image which is also a kind of thumb. But the original post image doesn’t get indexed anymore. Has anyone experienced the same?

I already deleated and updated the VC plugin – some result. No columns were rendered.
Update: The columns in Visual Composer don´t work at all. What can go wrong.
By the way: I work with the VC on differnet sites with different themes.
I was able to update the theme till 6.5.1 with the help of envato toolkit but now I’m unable to do the same. I have a blog http://www.techlegends.in
And, I would loose many readers if I put my site on maintenance mode for updating the theme. Please support auto update or a stock upgrade option right from the WordPress theme page! It would help me keep up with my productivity without interruptions 🙂

The theme becomes active only when it’s uploaded on your server via FTP or via WordPress as it’s indicated in our install guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/ However to keep your customizations you can use the patch provided with the theme. This patch contains only the modified files from one version to another, so you can simply upload only those files on your server via FTP.
Before making any changes please make sure that you do a full backup of your current theme installation and WordPress: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

Please make sure that you update the theme according with our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ Also make sure that you updated the Visual Composer plugin from the same path with the theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/ deactivate all others plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test again.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused but it should not have been such a big thing. If you follow the steps for updating then it really should have taken a couple of days to recreate a few elements on your website. A few month’s worth of work from 3 different developers is a bit of an overkill not to mention the price you paid for their services. Updating is simple enough by deleting the old theme, installing the new one and running the update script as suggested in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
We tried to maintain compatibility between the 2 versions as much as we could.

The facebook button does not work anymore in your version because fgacebook changed their code and we had to adjust the social counter to work properly again. Unfortunately, if you do a theme update, all the custom modifications will be overwritten. In this case, you should do a backup of your file or you will redo the changes.

Because you’re using a very old version of the theme the update process could be a bit tricky.
First make sure you do a full backup to the database and your current wp install: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups in case something goes wrong you can allays get back to the previous version. Also consider the steps I’ve provide below:
– setup a maintenance mode and you can use a plugin for that.
– empty all caches/purge files if you also use CDN host then disable any services of this type until you switch to the new theme
– disable all plugins
– install the theme then install the required plugins: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/
– switch back the rest of the plugins and make sure that they work fine with the theme, you can check this by enabling the plugins one by one then test the site.
Regarding your customizations these will be lost during the update process so you have to re-add them again in theme files or in child theme. Also make sure that the customizations are still compatible with the new theme because many files are changed and also many functions so there is a chance to appear some conflicts.
You also will need to redo your pages because in a previous version the shortcodes for blocks has been changed so they won’t work anymore. Just edit the page with Visual Composer, delete the existent blocks then re-add them again. Such that the new shortcodes will be generated and the page should be displayed fine.

In more substantial updated version we include the modified file list but in quick fixes such as this one, we usually do them in a hurry so not many people get affected by this issue so…you get what i mean.

1. Thanks for reporting this. Indeed that sections should’t appear if the comments are disabled for a specific post. Now the theme doesn’t check if that option it’s enabled or not, that’s why that sections appear even if the comments are disabled.
I have added this on our feature request list and we will try to implement it in the next theme updates.
2. The theme use the default feeds system built in with WordPress. You can try to use a plugin with a similar functionality but i can’t make any recommendation in this regard as we didn’t tested any of these plugins and I can’t say how they will work with our theme.

I received a message on 09th January, inviting me to download updates for the Newsmag theme. However, the download link provided on the email would mean that I should download the whole theme. The probleme is that we have made several changes, including in the functions, and I am afraid that any full download would mess everything.
Is there a way to download only the updates ?

The only way to update the theme without loosing the file customizations it’s by using the patch: http://screencast.com/t/WtZ7djusX The patch contains all modified file from one version to another so you can manually replace the old files with the new oneness from the patch. Before doing any changes make sure you do a full backup to the database and your current wp-install, just in case something goes wrong you can always get back to the previous install.
