Hi Neakriti

I dont know if it is related to your plugin but since last update of newspaper and wordpress (4.3), new suscribers dont receive any email with their password. Emails work fine for lost password. That is very weird

Hi,

Glad that it worked, sometime it could not connect to the server or the update was not complete.

Thanks!

Hi,

Normally the theme settings should not be affected, only the theme files it will be overwritten, but before any update(theme, wordpress) is recommended to make a full backup – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

Thanks!

Hi,

I have checked this using the latest theme version 6.5 and the VC provide with the theme 4.7.1.1 and did not found any issues – http://screencast.com/t/bnhTWx229http://screencast.com/t/O6lUMt7f9g
Please make sure you check this again after you update the theme and VC, also check this without any plugins active, leave just VC active and clear cache. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks!

Hello murakami9,

Our theme uses the WordPress standard comments module just styled differently. You can use a plugin like ‘Facebook comments’ https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/comments , which adds comment boxes but you will need to remove the default ones from the theme files. Replace theme’s default comments for each post template – http://screencast.com/t/wNkcby3T05.
You can read more about it in this topic here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-install-new-official-facebook-comment-update/.
If you do not want to modify the theme files there are other plugins that can replace the comments without you modifying the theme files, but we have not tested them and cannot make a recommendation.

Thank you!

Hi Steven,

I have checked this and before update we have made many tests using the latest version of VC. I guess you have this issue because you have used some VC elements that are changed, like you can see in the update log of Visual Composer and they appear deprecated. If you use some elements like Tabs, you will have to re-add them to your page as the VC developers have changed the classes, the design for them – http://screencast.com/t/3r1YoBw7
If this is not your issue, please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin so we can take a look, also paste a link to this topic so we can know what your issue is.

Thanks!

Hi

Thanks for reporting this, we changed the function name and we will update the documentation as soon as possible. You need to use the current implementation like in this example:

$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('the-file-id');

Thanks!

Thanks for the advise. I was able to get the updated version installed, I was not installing it properly before. As far as errors go, the only thing I know to do is wait and see if Webmaster Tools shows whether things are improving.

Unfortunately since installing the latest version, I can’t seem to make any changes to color layout etc. When I installed the updated version, it changed the color of some of my accents, like “log in”, “recent posts”, “latest articles” to black which clashes with the color scheme. I have changed all the theme colors, saved the theme colors and refreshed the page and there is no change. I don’t remember that be too difficult in the past and I’m really not sure why it changed with the update.

I also tried to set the template to show summaries instead of entire posts on previous articles, when I save those settings and refresh the page there is no change.

Also, when I preview the page, it shows an about the author post at the bottom of the page and a comments field . I would really like these elements to show on the posted pages, but they don’t and in this particular case never did.

Please let me know where I should go to fix these items, Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,

Jeni

Hi Lucian,

I use the Newsmag theme for my site http://www.pollupdates.com. I need to move five Styles to the footer. I followed your instructions and used the code below but to no benefit. Google PageSpeed still shows all five Styles to block rendering the content above the fold.

$this->move_style_to_footer(‘contact-form-7’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘wp-polls’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘google_font_open_sans’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘google_font_roboto_cond’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘js_composer_front’);
$this->move_style_to_footer(‘td-theme’);

Can you please help me.

Best,

Soumitra

When I comment the code, my site goes blank and I had no option but to revert back to uncomment the code.

There is an update guide from v4 to v6 in the theme docs for NP6, or there was… that is best place to start.

I updated my staging site to v6.5 this evening. Everything appears to be just fine except for the import video ad BG CSS is different and no longer looks as it did before.

See here: http://i57.tinypic.com/2ngtsf8.jpg

The space above and below the ad is off. There used to be a 21px margin at the top and the bottom now has a bottom padding of 21px, making too much space at the bottom.

The staging site is http://staging55.gfqnetwork.com if you care to look for yourself.

It also appears the the Article Bottom ad doesn’t have enough space at the top either: http://i59.tinypic.com/nxc0g.jpg

Will this be fixed?

Hi, I have problems with the text box from last WP update (4.3.1). In fact I can’t edit any text and I only can see the HTML but not the visual style.

Please, Can you help me?

I just figured out how to remove the extra social media icons – by unchecking the box it the edit post page. But this box should not be checked since in the theme panel I do not have social media turned on.

So it looks like the general theme settings are not working since the 6.5 update.

Hi – I think this started happening since I updated to 6.5 this morning.

http://blog.kozzi.com/stock-images/signature-image/success-key-in-human-hand/

My posts now have 2 Related article sections and a 2nd set of social media icons.

In Theme Panel I do not have social media icons set, and on post settings, if I turn off related articles, the related articles with icons (the correct one) is removed but the text version remains.

I do not know how to remove these TEXT RELATED ICONS and the 3 social media icons that are on the page now.

Please let me know where these came from.

Thanks

Hello,
I’d like to know if, after updating to Newspaper 6, my settings and posts will remain untouched.
And if remain, how do I update the theme?
Tnks!!

Well guess what?

Got to thinking about it and the error code I was getting was a strange. So downloaded the update again and it worked great.

Moral of the story: data sometimes gets corrupted while being downloaded – HA!

Hi, I was wondering how I update the theme, I noticed there was one available. And what changes will this cause to my setup?

I generally agree with what Steven said.

Of course, major hackbots actually go after ALL sites running WordPress, and even folders with /wp-content/ or /wp-admin/ simply by doing Google search.

It’s of utmost importance to keep your core WP files updated for all the security patches.

It’s imperative to learn about security strategies:
1) rename your admin account to something else — you should NEVER have account called “admin”
2) use tools like “limit login attempts”
3) consider disabling pingbacks and XMLRPC unless you have absolute need for them
4) make sure your host has system in place like IPTables/CSF for auto-blocking port scans and basic probing of server.
5) delete old plugins and themes you are NOT using — 5 year old theme in your theme folder might be hackable. Just because it’s off doesn’t mean the php files are not still there (!).
6) check your site/domain error logs from time to time to look for folks from certain IPS generating large amount of errors; have your host add them to a block list, or in some cases you can do so with htaccess if not other method.
7) try not to have any “account signup” forms on your site; make sure any contact forms do NOT send auto emails back to the sender — instant spam engine.
8) subscribe to security blogs like Securi which keep up on major WP hackables
9) don’t install any plugins which have not been updated in 2015 unless you’re 100% sure they are safe as they may not have the security updates of recent months
10) don’t install free plugins “found on the web” on some random website (don’t trust “glowing reviews” from junk WP review sites which are affiliate link farms!)

Use common sense, be proactive in having a security PLAN like regular safe backups, etc. and “be careful out there!”

No reason to install the Child theme. Some people use them to hack theme settings in hopes they won’t have to redo edits on theme update; however that is a 50/50 proposition since often major theme updates mean changing child theme as well. If you’re using the built-in functions and control panel and visual layout, without needing to “hack’ things for some custom reason, you don’t need to use the child theme. It’s also a CSS redirect, which Google actually doesn’t like, but WordPress has this as a core ‘feature.’

Not sure that helps or not — but upshot: don’t use it unless you have a reason to!

Dear Sir,
I have already a Newspaper powered multisite website powered with theme version 4.6.3
This website is already live and being updated with new content every day.
I obviously must update the theme to the latest version.
I would like to ask you which is the sequential order of steps I must take in order to perform the update, but:
1. without breaking the live site
2. keep the new theme updated version content-updated too
Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much Bogdan B!

And could you please also point out to me what to tweak in order to change the colors of the comment counter bubble thingies?

Thanks again
