Hello,
In the top slide why you can show featured articles?(important posts) and from blocks above you can remove them to avoid duplicates using -ID of the category Features as a filter for blocks.

The WordPress have an offset post function but work only in loop. We know about this, we have in mind a homepage with unique content(no duplicate posts) for future updates.

Thanks for the message!

Hello,
Use the child theme, for custom CSS.
If you have made custom css, on updates you will lose the modification, because you overwrite the files.

Install the CHild theme and add you custom css there in Appearance -> Editor

Thanks

After EVERY update it seems that my header changes sizes.

Other than not using the updates, is there a way to ensure this doesn’t happen again?

Hello,

@mmcmsp
like @tonz1976 sayed, just replace all files via FTP. Also please be careful !!! i see you have made some customization. I mean if you have file modification be sure to not loose the modification from files. (like the hearts instead of of stars) in elements.png file.

I’ve installed 3.8 and seems to work fine. We will release an update next week and will confirm the compatibility with 3.8

Thanks @tonz1976 for your help.

And may I say, I just updated on one of our sites NOT running Newspaper …
first thought… ‘holy crap’ … it is the first major upgrade in WP interface in one heck of a long time. Bootstrap influence clearly seen. It’s TOTALLY different.

Personally I’d recommend everybody wait for RADU to check things before updating to WP 3.8

As an aside, my other site running Woo Canvas didn’t implode, so that’s a very good sign.

Hi Everyone.. I just updated to 2.1 and now i am having an issue inside the visual editor. When I try to add any h tags to my text it creates an h tag around the entire sentence. If I manually add it to the area I want in the text editor and then tab back to the visual editor it changes the placement of the h tag to include the whole sentence again.

So far it is only doing it with the h tags that I have tested. Other elements such as bold and italics are working fine.

Anyone have similar issues and know how to fix?

example:
Places I have been: Australia, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Montana, Texas, Florida, and Mexico.

Try to add h2 tag to “Places I have been:” but it adds the h2 tag to the entire sentence.

If I code it manually the way i want it… it changes it when I go back to the visual editor.

any advice would be appreciated. thanks!!!

Hi,

We recently updated to the newest version of newspaper, but it leaves an error at the top of our page:

WP_Error Object ( [errors] => Array ( [existing_user_login] => Array ( [0] => Sorry, that username already exists! ) ) [error_data] => Array ( ) )

Also, we’re unable to change the header colour for some reason. Oddly enough we can’t change the colour from light blue back to our regular green.

Our website is: http://thestonedsociety.com/

Thanks in advance,

Mauro

Hello,
Do you write about 1.3.8.4 to 1.3.9. We don’t have those theme versions for Newspaper, why i presume that you have updated the xampp 🙂

Sorry for my wrong understanding

Can you give us more details about this: I wondered why the ajax-driven Blog and Portfolio didn’t work anymore until I’ve found some changes in /js/main.js that causes this crash!

I not understand your question 🙁
Thanks

Hello,
This solution that @fgrenier provided us was not tested by us, still investigate if this will doable, we know that is a nice feature but we need more time for research.

We will update the roadmap topic on the forum with what will next up in the following updates, and work in progress.

Thanks for your message,
Marius from tagDiv

Hello,

1. Use category -> forums instead of forums -> subforums. Was not make to work with subforumns, we will take a look about this things. Thanks for suggestion.

2. I’ve tested and for me works the limit on topics and on replies to. A bug that i have found is that the pagination is not styled on replies pages.

We will improve the forum support in for the following updates.

Here is a nice example of the forum that a client use it: http://www.cruisehive.com/cruiseforums/

Hello,
If you added in style.css in Child theme on updates you don’t loose the changes you have made to hide that texts.

Thanks for your message

Thanks Marius for your support, that helped. (My site is still in development and not accessible yet.)

Since these changes will be overwritten by the next theme update (I think ;-))and I don’t need those sentences, I added the following code to my newspaper-child/style.css:

.td_search_subtitle
{
  visibility: hidden !important;
}

.td-404-sub-title
{
    visibility: hidden !important;
}

They will simply not be displayed.

Please fix the Facebook official plugin issue with pagination and, if possible, I would love to see a better navigation menu like ubbermenu – or make it compatible with. Thanks!

I’ve updated the theme, not Xampp.

Marius

Hello,
Do you mean you have updated the xampp and now the theme have some issues? Please could you give us more details about the issue?

Could be only a local problem with xampp, we will take a look.

Thanks

Today I’ve updated a local Xampp-Installation from 1.3.8.4 to 1.3.9.
I wondered why the ajax-driven Blog and Portfolio didn’t work anymore until I’ve found some changes in /js/main.js that causes this crash!
I don’t know exactly what are the differences. I only want to inform you on this. Is it maybe a local problem?

1) reduce image sizes either by running compression plugin and/or adding compression factor to your functions file
2) faster server account, if you keep seeing “slow response from server” error — that was a [!] item on your last report speed check — nothing can be done about that with the theme, or in WP; that is how fast the account you have and your hosting provider is responding to ping/start showing the page. For example if you have a $5/month account, upgrade to $10/month account (I’m just using that as example). Low cost accounts are usually on a machine or VPS being shared with 1,000+ other sites. Slightly more costly hosting accounts give more resources to each site, by sharing the resource pool with fewer domains.

Verify deflate/gzip working; remember this only serves up faster versions of your content, but doesn’t optimize them prior to that. I think I saw a 100K image file in your last report … that is waaaaaaaaay too big. Try using smushit plugin and regenerate thumbnails to see if that helps? (Backup images first as changes to images on server will be destructive — meaning they are changed and cannot be unchanged).

Also, for testing if you’re using a child theme, be sure to try NOT using a child theme to see if that gains you a point.

However RECOMMENDED:
1) optimize images before/after upload
2) look at better hosting – if you keep getting “slow to respond” error from Google — no way around that on your side.
3) test without using DISQUS, as this does slow things down. We stopped using it for that reason. We’re leaning toward phasing out comments on most sites, per industry practice now that most comments tend to be trolls and arguments (see: CNN for example). Any comments plugin really slows stuff down on WP. Unless you gain ad revenue from 10,000 visitors per day, it’s not really an essential plugin, and more of a glamour thing (in my opinion).
4) turn off all jetpack stuff for speed test — anything that connects to the WP/Automattic mothership adds latency.

Hope that helped 🙂

————–
as an aside on pagespeed errors:
I’m actually dealing with even more arcane stuff like how to enqueue the parent Theme’s style sheet in the child Theme’s functions.php, to bypass the annoying @import not recommended error from Google which the Automattic folks seem to think is a non-issue. I will post my efforts on THAT noise if anybody cares.

[ UPDATED ]
I just ran your GPS test, and saw you’re up to 82/100 desktop. So, looks like you’re making progress. The images issue is the next thing you need to resolve. You’ll have several points for that, as reducing the footprint of your images speeds up page (e.g., if you go from 300K to 150KB; that’s 50% less time loading images!).

For the minification stuff… note you would need to use a plugin for that (WPminify) although this has some issues; -or- you need to manually minify SOME resources which are not already reduced in size. RADU doesn’t minify all the code as developers have a hard time modifying code if they can’t read it.

So, if you knew there were a couple of large CSS/JS files you might want to minify, you can easily do that using an online tool (I use this one, although it won’t work with IE11/Win7 properly … use Chrome or similar: http://refresh-sf.com/yui/ )

Basically, “minification” of CSS and Java/js files removes the extra spaces, comments, and line breaks to make file “more compact” … so if you had a 125Kb CSS file, by removing all the spaces, line breaks, comments, it might end up being 100Kb, which is the kind of reduction that PageSpeed looks at — the idea being if you had 5 files being loaded on page and you reduced all of them by 20kb – well, that’s 100Kb and is larger than what website developers like me used for the entire page and graphics 10 years ago (we used to shoot for 50kb max page load, if you can imagine that!) …
