Updating to Latest Version of Newspaper

I read through the docs
Put the site in maintenance mode
Changed to a default theme
Fortunately I move the current version to a back up folder in lieu of deleting
Downloaded latest from Theme Forest
Uploaded the zip
Extracted in /themes
Reactiveated Newspaper
Cmaer out of maintance mode

And I get a blank page, the menu is there and an advertisement I’m running from a CDN, but no posts, just a blank page.

So I repeated the above process putting the previous version of Newspaper back in place, reactivated and all my content is back??

What did I do wrong? I’m happy with the previous version and the site is live, so don’t want to risk breaking it, but do like to stay updated. Any thoughts please?

Thanks.

Hi,

Please be sure to update the theme properly. If you download the full theme package, the actual theme zip file is inside it
https://forum.tagdiv.com/whats-included/

Follow the guide carefully – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and there should be no problem. It is common practice to make a full backup before updating, in case something goes wrong.

Thanks

Thank you.

That is the exact guide I read through prior to my first attempt. I read it again.

I carefully followed the directions, updating plugins, clearing cache, etc. but still I get a blank page.

I put the old version of Newspaper back and all is well. I’m not sure what else I can do? I will have to remain with the older version or hire TagDiv to update it for me.

Do you use a child theme maybe? If you do, deactivate it and try again. Be sure to check the theme requirements guide, increase the wp-memory if needed

We recommend a value of 256M, this would be enough for most websites. Also clear all caching you have and purge CDN files after you update.

Thanks, no child theme.

I’ll speak with support about the memory.

For now, I’m just going to remain with the previous version which suited my needs fine.
